Hii guys ... I began my budget with 10k ... and then increased it to 15K.

Now, since I've done my engineering exams well, I've have got a budget of 20k to get my cell. :D

I am looking forward to SE K850i.
Mainly because of:
1. Excellent 5 mp camera.
2. Superb & Unique Stylish Design.
3. Loud Music.

I also thought of the N82 but, I was not very happy with it's keypad. And secondly, I am not really a symbian fan also !

If there are any other "should-buy" phone in this range then please advise.

Also, please put down your views (both good and bad points) for K850i.

Thanks in advance !

I still sincerely feel that u shud go for N82 gourav...It is a complete phone with a lot of features....Once u start using the keypad, u will get used to it within a few days...This was my consideration also initially but then I have read a lot of opinions of N82 users which made me inclined towards this phone...U do get easily used 2 the keypad as the keys r not at all stiff.....

Rest is ur choice brother whichever u like...

I knew I was in for a big confusion between K850i & N82.

My reason for choosing K850i was mainly stylish looks ...

I can compromise on the looks though ... but, what are the advantages that I get over K850i for choosing N82 ?

Go for K850i . SE Rules . i use my friend's N70 it is sluggishly slow . even my low on features k750 phone sounds wayy better than phones till 10k range .

my advise will be k850i . ( it comes with a marble game also, demonstrating its motion sensor technology .) the media player is the same used in PSP and Playstation 3 . if u dont have a PSP u can try getting w950 and PSP + PSP camera .

Hey gourav-
1. Looks - N82 has definitely improved with the black version..It does look equivalent to the K850i in this department if not beats it....
2. Cam results - better than the K850i....U can check some of the reviews on the net for confirmation if u don't trust me...
3. Price - www.univercell.in - N82-19615/-, K850i - 19135/- So a price difference of Rs. 480 only...

Now the extras that u will get by spending these Rs. 480/-
1. Wifi - K850i does not have wifi...
2. N82 - 16 M colors, K850i - 256k ... So clarity of N82 is better.
3. Display size - N 82 - 2.4'', K850i - 2.2'' - Higher screen is better for internet surfing.
4. Phonebook - N82 - u can store unlimited entries...K850i - 1000 x20 fields
5.Call records - N82 - 30 days..K850i - 30 entries... So N82 is better as u have call records of 1 month...
6. OS - N82 is symbian so more applications are available...
7. GPS Navigation - N82 has it..K850i doesn't. Now don't tell me that whenever GPS is launched in ur city u will not use it...
8. Weight - N82 - 114g, K850i - 118 g (This is minor issue and can be negated)
9. 3.5 mm audio jack - N82 has - so you can plugin any headphones...
10. TV Output - N82 can be connected 2 ur TV 2 view ur photos and videos or 4 that matter whatever comes on ur N82 screen... K850i lacks this feature...
11. Office document Viewer - N82 has it...U can read ur excel, word, pdf docs in N82 after loading it...K850i - This feature is missing....
13. N82 cam has carl Zeiss optics with a xenon flash and autofocus....K850i does not have Carl Zeiss optics in its cam...
14. N82 - equipped with ARM 11 332 MHz processor...Although symbian the N82 is really really fast...
15. Internal memory - N82 - 100 MB..K850i - 40 MB ( So N82 is better)

So, dear what else do u want by spending just Rs. 418/- extra....According 2 me N82 is a better choice in this segment.....

Note:- I am not a fanboy of any brand...Whatever is better, I just acknowledge it...I own a K750i and I know its cam is best in 2 MP category...I love my K750i and will never sell it...

and gourav if u wud have asked me 2 choose between N73 and K810i, I wud have chosen K810i coz its cam is better....

BUT in the 20k segment, It is N82 only.. It is definitely a better deal....:p

In my opinion, you should go for N82. Here are some advantages of N82 over K850i:
Slightly better camera,
Much better video recording,
Bigger display,
Stereo speakers,
3.5mm headphone jack,
Graphics accelerator,
Orientation sensor which works throughout the menu and not just in media player,
N-Gage platform,
Wi-fi,
Edge Class 32,
TV Out,
And in Mumbai atleast, better resale value. And I haven't even included the fact that it's Symbian (since its not important to you).

To be honest, K850i is not a bad phone. But when you bring N82 in the picture and all the extra features that it brings along and that too at just 1000 bucks more, then the K850i suddenly looks like a bad deal. Had it been priced at around 16k, K850i been a good buy. But at 18k, it doesn't give any strong reasons to choose it over N82.

On paper N82 does looks good & more powerful then K850i but with all those features one questions comes in mind, will anyone use all those features?

1. Wifi - K850i does not have wifi...

It is a mobile phone, how many places are there where you will get free WiFi or something??? Maybe Barista or CCD, but it's not like u stay there for ever. Having WiFi over GPRS/EDGE for internet won't make a difference in a phone anyway.

2. N82 - 16 M colors, K850i - 256k ... So clarity of N82 is better.

I agree. But it also uses more battery. But a feature I would certainly want to have in a phone.

3. Display size - N 82 - 2.4'', K850i - 2.2'' - Higher screen is better for internet surfing.

A difference of .2 inches is hardly noticable.

4. Phonebook - N82 - u can store unlimited entries...K850i - 1000 x20 fields

Yup, N82 is much better here.
5.Call records - N82 - 30 days..K850i - 30 entries... So N82 is better as u have call records of 1 month...

In real world scenario, this is irrelevent.

6. OS - N82 is symbian so more applications are available...

All what u need is available in K850i either as a JAVA app or inbuilt. What application do u install on a Phone anyway?
7. GPS Navigation - N82 has it..K850i doesn't. Now don't tell me that whenever GPS is launched in ur city u will not use it...

it's not available. Why pay for a feature u won't use..

9. 3.5 mm audio jack - N82 has - so you can plugin any headphones...

K850 comes with HPM series of headphone & in that u can plug any 3.5mm headphone.

10. TV Output - N82 can be connected 2 ur TV 2 view ur photos and videos or 4 that matter whatever comes on ur N82 screen... K850i lacks this feature...

How many people use this? Will u carry the cable everywhere?
11. Office document Viewer - N82 has it...U can read ur excel, word, pdf docs in N82 after loading it...K850i - This feature is missing....

No, there are JAVA based PDF & DOC file viewers.

13. N82 cam has carl Zeiss optics with a xenon flash and autofocus....K850i does not have Carl Zeiss optics in its cam...

Won't make much difference, picture quality depends on light.

14. N82 - equipped with ARM 11 332 MHz processor...Although symbian the N82 is really really fast...

Depends.

15. Internal memory - N82 - 100 MB..K850i - 40 MB ( So N82 is better)

you don't use a memory card?

Overall N82 is for those who want a brick & a small computer while K850i is for those who want a multimedia device & phone.

looks-k850 way better..noway the n82 comes close with black or watever..
cam results-subjective..i take wonderful pics with the new firmware cam..
for wifi,gps,symbian etc-g900
n82 screen-check them both out side by side..u will know hcih is better..k850 beats it by miles..
display size-.2 inch..well..okk..
phonebook-the k850 has unlimited entires..cap removed with latest firmware
call records-u can sync ur records thru pc suite to ur computer and save it if u want to chk thru for future refernce..but i doubt the n82 has a 30 day period..a person can have 100s of calls..not sure bout that..
gps- it comes bundled with google maps and the maps of kolkata...very easy to browse...u wont miss gps n any way....comes pre installed with the maps of the major cities..the enabler which costs 1.5k then provides for gps activities
3.5 mm jack-yea u have to use the hpm 70 for plugging in the 3.5 mm jack..the bundled earphones with the n82 are crap..
internal memory-what makes the n82 better in this regard??i have no idea..the os takes up half the space anyway...

bottom line is..if u need symbian...go for k850....the k850 and the n82 are portrayed for different markets...now its upto u...

oh i forgot..battery life...
iget 3-4 days of usage..
and god save u with the n82 if u text a lot...

upto u now...

N82's keypad is really bad for people with thick fingers.

One thing people forget is the PC Suite software, whether it is Sony or Nokia both of there PC Suite are pretty bloated. On Nokia there is no option other then Nokia PC suite however, in case of K850i we have MyPhoneExplorer. it's not like you won't use your PC to connect to the phone.

Does N82 supports MTP protocol for syncing with Windows Media Player like K850i does?

How much difference is there in price of k850i and N82? just Rs. 480...

So for Rs. 480, u r getting so many additional features which K850i definitely lacks in ( GPS, Wifi etc. etc. which I have already mentioned)...Rs. 480 is a very small amount when u r spending 20k on a mobile...

So, N82 is a better value for money in this price category..:D

When you connect your Nokia phone to your PC you get the option to either connect via PC Suite, or as Mass storage or sync with Windows Media player. With PC suite you can browse both phone memory as well as memory card.

GPS is totally free with Nokia Maps unless you want voice navigation.
Abt the apps, Gx, i want Opera, Implus, Smartmovie etc. The symbian ones. Not the java crap.
And the n82 is just as sleek and sexy as any fone can get. Do you mind if we get a computer in the same price as other show off fones?

And the only Java app worth using is Opera Mini. Otherwise all other app are crap and nowhere close to their Symbian counterparts. Once you get used to the Symbian apps, you wouldn't want to use the Java ones again.

Opera mini is there, but yeah native opera must be faster, but I don't see much difference in both.

IMPlus alternate is Morange, IMplus is also for java.

Smartmovie sux big time, I would rather prefer encoding a video to h.263 mp4 using riverpast then smart movie

Opera has a whole lot more features than Mini.
Smartmovie/divx are amongst the best players on mobile.
No Java app can match Slick/Implus

Thanks a lot for so many replies, guys.
There are a lot of things to which I'd like to reply. Do correct me if I get wrong anywhere.

N82. BTW how much did ya get in your entrances?
All the results are not yet out but I have cleared for CSE in ICFAITECH B'lore & Sikkin Manipal University.

Hey gourav-
1. Looks - N82 has definitely improved with the black version..It does look equivalent to the K850i in this department if not beats it....
Looks are rather a personal choice as they can't be measured. I feel N82 comes nowhere even close to K850i when it comes to looks.

Hey gourav-
2. Cam results - better than the K850i....U can check some of the reviews on the net for confirmation if u don't trust me...
I agree that most experts say the N82 has a better cam than K850i. But, AFAIK, the difference is very slight only. I can ignore that.

Hey gourav-
1. Wifi - K850i does not have wifi...
I won't be using it anyways.

And the n82 is just as sleek and sexy as any fone can get. Do you mind if we get a computer in the same price as other show off fones?
Again, if you call N82 sleek & sexy I don't know what will you call K850i ? Secondly, I do want want a computer in my phone. I'll be getting my laptop and I'll use that for all computing purpose, internet etc.

Bro take the mobile in hand.. use it for 5 min and think again..
I don't get why you said so?
Maybe, you are referring to the fingerprints that gets attracted easily.
I'll keep this in mind before I buy the phone.

So have you completed your BE or which year you are in .
No, I've just given my engineering entrance exams.

So that means you want to go with K850i.. Go ahead go for it! But looking at your post above, you are only going for it cause of the looks (which is ok if you want looks). Other than looks (which are subjective), there is no way you can compare N82 with K850i.

it will also be available for your city soon as more and more company will start including these features to compete with them nokia will concentrate more and more on improving this feature

N82 also has accelerometer

dude you can easily figure out the difference in screen size 2.4 > 2.2

well just go to a mobile shop and ask the bestseller for that budget you will be surprised that it is not sony but nokia n82

now it is up to you to decide

On paper N82 does looks good & more powerful then K850i but with all those features one questions comes in mind, will anyone use all those features?
Why not..People will use these features with time...

It is a mobile phone, how many places are there where you will get free WiFi or something??? Maybe Barista or CCD, but it's not like u stay there for ever. Having WiFi over GPRS/EDGE for internet won't make a difference in a phone anyway.

Wifi is a great feature of N82...U can have a BB connection with wifi modem and can use it for surfing on ur mobile...N82 can connect 2 wifi devices such as ur laptop for data transfer etc...The 3G is being launched in India by the end of this yr and wifi pts. r gonna increase with time...

A difference of .2 inches is hardly noticable.

A greater screen gives a better surfing experience and bigger screen is better...

In real world scenario, this is irrelevent.

Call records - 30 days for N82..Can u retrieve the person's cell no. who called u 30 days back with K850i...I don't think that u will make only one call per day with the K850i.....

it's not available. Why pay for a feature u won't use..

GPS is available in India in some cities dear...i thought that u know this....Its free..U don't have 2 pay 4 it..

How many people use this? Will u carry the cable everywhere?

Many people use the TV output feature...One always like 2 view the photos & videos taken ob big screen. So this is quite a handy feature..

Won't make much difference, picture quality depends on light.

The cam results r better due to Carl Zeiss optics...Just check the review sites 4 this...

you don't use a memory card?

But bigger memory is always better...

Overall N82 is for those who want a brick & a small computer while K850i is for those who want a multimedia device & phone.

And Dear N82 is not a brick phone..K850i is heavier by 4 gms than N82...
N82 - 114 g, K850i - 118 gms.

( Now which one is a brick, u decide...)

Guys, I accept that I am a little inclined towards K850i.

Honestly speaking, it because of its stylish design.

And secondly, the I'll be using features like wifi, internet surfing, or viewing office documents on my laptop.

That's why I thought that K850i would be a better choice for me. (I've always liked stylish phones ... My last few phones were Moto Rizr V3i & Moto Razr Z3)

But, looking after such unanimous inclination towards N82, I feel that I am making a mistake.
Still I am not 100% convinced.

Its not that K850i is a bad phone....It is only that N82 is way better than K850i...N82 is more feature rich than K850i...U can see my previous posts 2 see what extra features N82 has and why it is better than K850i...

And then, there is not much of price difference between K850i and N82...So when u r getting so many extras in N82 by spending just a little more (Rs. 480 almost), then I think that it is really wise 2 go 4 N82 only....N82 is a better value for money than K850i..:D

U can also see the poll based thread 'Which high end mobile do you wanna own/currently own?' which I started yesterday...The N82 is on the top spot as for now and seems 2 b the most popular as compared 2 other cell phones....

can anyone tell me what has the k850 accelrometer got to do with nething?? :O

in fact..u can use the accelerometer to play games..theres the nfs pro street and many other accelerometer games which are optimized for SE phones..and EA and SE have come to an exclusive deal..where EA will be providing accelrometer games for 6 months free to SE users..starting from C902..read it somewhere..

beats me..
the d-pad- much better than the n82 anyday...u will obviouslyt need getting used to it for a few days..but then its fine..

the touch sensitive soft keys are a charm..and they vibrate when u press em..

the k850 has an automatic shutter..super cool for a cam phone..but u have to get used to the cam a bit..u cant start clicking beauties at the outset..takes bout a coupla days to get used to the sensor..

why is noun saying bout the music quality huh?? ..no comments on that..the psp menu is brilliant..the n82 has a lot to learn from SE when it comes to UI..

the k850 will soon be modable and u will be able to incorporate flash themes...better cam drivers..beat the k850 at that..

i have mentioned beofre..u get google maps with all the maps preinstalled..so u have all the maps at ur disposal...ooh.m missing gps..lol..

wifi-has anyone tried out the wifi functionalities yet??..dunno..but i heard is pretty weak..and u need to be very close to a tower to get a signal...dunno..mayb wrong..

what else??symbian maybe..if u need smartmovie and a document viewer..go for it..else i dont think there are many applications to boast about...

nagage-LOLZZZZZ!!!!! 10$ s for a game..buy that..and n82 comes with sophisticated piracy protection...so no pirated games guys..

SE PLAYNOW ARENA!!!-ever heard of this thing??SE collaborated with napster to form the biggest music bank in the phone industry with more than 5 million songs at their disposal..collaboration with EA...

now u can download songs, games and do much more with that..just trackid the song..and they will send u the album and the price at a discounted rate...bbye bye ngage..oh..as a matter of fact..according to easto..the psp arena is to be alunched soon..with the wifi adapter...now if u want wifi in urset..just plug in a small adapter and ur ready to go..

did i miss anything??

The factors that make N82 good are not there in K850i. Thats the bad in K850i
Its as simple as that :)

Anyways, as they say there is no such thing as the best phone. Its the phone which suits your needs better which is the best phone for you. But in this case N82 has something for everyone.... in fact it has everything for everyone :)

As far as I am concerned the only negative of N82 is its keypad. Many on this forum have got used to it. Just take a N82 in your hands and if u feel u r ok with the keypad, stop thinking twice & get the N82.

Those who say things like GPS won't be used are the ones who are stuck with K850i and do not have GPS on their phones .... its basically a case of sour grapes :))

Even I was worried initially, but, now after 12 days of use, I could find the keypad quite convenient, even though the keys are smaller but the space between the keys is quite spacious, which helps to handle it easily. The only thing is one has to get used to it at least for a couple of days. Moreover the build of keypad is very strong which according to me will not get loosen for years.... :)

@Gourav: you mentioned somewhere in the above posts that you do not need a computer, only a phone... In that case, why are spending 20K in the first place... only for looks..?? You can a classy looking phone for much less than that.. you need cam and music too, still you get a phone for something less.. IMHO, if you are spending 20K on a phone, get something that has all the best features in it.. If you are gonna use your mobile only for calls, an occasional snap and some music, get one of the SE phones for much lesser and save some bucks... Ultimately, its your decision (and seems that you have made one before starting this thread itself.. ;) )

Let me tell something now.
My last 4 phones were: nokia 6600 > moto V3 > N72 > moto Z3 !!
And from my experience, I always got bored of the Nokia phones in 3-4 months. keep in mind that the models I used were bestsellers at a time!
So, I am afraid this might happen with n82 too.
And I don't need a "smart-phone". I need a "multimedia phone".
That makes me incline toward K850i.
And in addition, theres the rock like keypad of N82 and its average looks.

hey guys, here are my two cents ..

about k850i - i called it failed product cos it is centered around its 5mp cam which is not substancially better than the competition ..which infact is inferiour to nokia , lg and samsung camera phones.. and to top it all, n82 is not even a dedicated camera phone .. i have not used it at all ..but when sony releases a cybershot k series phone then it has to beat the competition fair & square , which is not the case.. k790i and k750i were leaders in their time.. then , i read a lot about various probs on esato forum.. u can do it urself ..just check that forum ..

@n82 - some people say it has useless features as gps and wifi .. i used a prog called nokia sports tracker which is based on gps ..fantastic app ..wifi is very useful too ..tv out lets u connect ur phone to large tvs ..like i do on my 29" one ..even play games and can watch those fantastic vga videos recorded with n82 on tv .. its xenon flash is stronger than k850i xenon flash .. its very fast phone with 92 mb usable ram after bootup ..camera is top notch. sound through 3.5 mm jack with creative ep 630 is fantastic .. and not a single person who have seen my silver n82 has termed it "ugly" as most people would make to believe u .. i can go about on and on about n82 ..and there are a heck lot of apps and games on symbian ..not just smart movie etc .. those who have used symbian wont comment like this ..d pad and soft keys of n82 is good to operate ..as well as its keypad ..not a prob at all ...use it and then comment .. n82 is one super all round phone ..the best one till now ..

again its upto u .. just posted this so other can make their choice ..

So it’s that time of year again..

After close to 1.5 years on my trusty Nokia N73 , Its time for n82

Here’s the rap sheet - *developer.nokia.com/devices/N82

For the full flash demo with all the bling, go here
*www.nseries.com/index.html#l=products,n82

So here we go all about n82 !~!
First looks: To describe it in very concise terms, N82 = N95 - slider +
candybar + Xenon flash + light meter + auto tilt + user data protection. Let me
elaborate further.

The N82 has the same candybar form factor as the N73, but with the added
powerful features of the N95. Speakers are located along the right side,
instead of the top and bottom, and the data cable/charger socket have moved to
the left side. The phone uses microUSB and 3.5" audio jacks, instead of
the old proprietary PopPort interface, so this means you can connect any
headphones to it.

Headphone jack is moved to the top, so it can be easily slipped into your shirt
pocket while listening to music. The handsfree supplied unfortunately
is the typical basic one with no music controls. Why couldn’t they supply
the same kind as is given with the music edition phones??
Aesthetics/ergonomics: What’s not to like! Beautiful polished steel look
(not actual steel, like the N91 was). It attracts fingerprints, sure, but I
love the silver gleam. the thin keys are actually fine to type on. The last time such keys were seen were on the N91-and they were hard to press. These ones have the right balance of not being too spongy (like the N73 original) or too hard. They ‘click’ just right, and are easy to type on. However, the pencil key ( a staple on s60 devices) has been removed. The + key now has the options for dictionary etc, and this may take some getting used to. What’s worse- you can’t do multiple select the way you could on earlier phones by using pencil key + arrow keys.

There’s also a dedicated ‘multimedia’ key that works
differently than the older ones. It displays a rolling set of tiles; each tile
showing in order-recent music, videos, quick access to contacts, last photo
taken and so on.

Firmware: As the complexity of Nseries starts to rival computers, bugs
do come out and Nokia has started offering firmware updates that can be
performed at home without having to take the phone to a shop. My base firmware was 10.0.0.46. After reading up on the net, I found that a newer version of the firmware fixes several bugs and makes performance improvements, so I upgraded and now I have 11.0.117. Chances are if you buy this phone later, it may already be updated; you can use Nokia Software Updater (google it) to check the latest version. One nice feature is ‘user data protection’-this means that firmware updates will not wipe the phone memory as they did with earlier phones; your applications, contacts, messages etc remain intact after flashing the firmware.

Responsiveness:

This has to be the Core 2 Duo of
mobile phones. It uses a dual core ARM processor and a dedicated OpenGL
graphics chip. The result? Stunningly fast performance and responsiveness.
Despite all the features, it boots up in less than 15 seconds, and the camera
instantly starts when you open the shutter. The last word- you can play a Symbian port of the old 3D game Quake 1 on this with full graphics and effects !!!

Operating system/look and feel:

The phone, like the N95, uses S60 3rd edition Feature Pack 1. As before-I’ll just highlight the new features here over the base S60 3rd edition OS.

eorganized menus-

Earlier one had to go to separate places to change the theme, ringtone, wallpaper etc. Now they’re all grouped together under a ‘personalization’ menu in settings (though you can use the old way also). A few other menus have also been grouped together/reorganized.

Animated icons- Icons in the menu animate (if you can call sliding towards you, that)
Running app indicator-

The N82 has 120 MB of RAM, which is huge for a mobile device. You can have several apps running, and now a small blue swirl is shown in the menu to indicate that an app is already running in the background.

Timed Bluetooth visibility-

You can specify for how long your phone should appear visible via Bluetooth, after which it reverts to ‘hidden’ mode.

Gallery-
You can save images directly to contacts as their thumbnails from the gallery now.

Unified browser:

In the previous OS, there were 2 browsers ‘Web’ and ‘Services’ for full web and wap, respectively. These have been merged into a single one that recognizes both types of content. It now can store form passwords for websites as well, saving you the hassle of typing it out. Also, since it has wifi support, you can surf the net using wifi instead of your GPRS connection.

Keypad autolock, and repeating alarms!!-

Finally, finally they ported over these features from lower end S40 phones! Why Nokia chose not to have this ability before, I wonder! Caveat: The autolock only works when the phone is in the standby screen, not otherwise. The alarm clock lets you specify working days, and can be set to ring only on those days if needed. Also you can set multiple alarms.

Search:

Imagine having the equivalent of Google Desktop Search on your phone. This is the most awesome application on the phone that I’ve found. It can be invoked from the Active Standby screen, and you can search anything on your phone-be it contacts, messages, emails, calendar entries, by just typing it. No more hunting through menus. You can also search the web, MSN and yahoo are the default search providers (wonder why no Google).

Autotilt:

Like the N95 and the iPhone, this phone also has an accelerometer that detects its orientation. Unlike the N95, it does support auto tilt. Tilting the phone to the left in any mode other than the standby screen causes the display to switch to horizontal/landscape mode. However you need to hold it exactly perpendicular to the ground to work correctly, and it only works if you flip it to the left. You can turn off this behavior too, if you like.

Camera:

According to a web review, the N82 wins hands
down over other 5mp class camera phones in terms of image quality. I totally
agree. The phone also has a lightmeter that vastly improves photo quality under low light conditions. As I mentioned before, the camera starts up immediately on opening the shutter (there’s a small switch for the lens cover on the back). The camera now has a viewfinder grid and extra setting for sharpness, in addition to everything else. Image quality lives upto the hype; pity I don’t have examples. A future firmware update promises to add geotagging support via GPS for photos; this means you can embed position information into the photo, so that the location can be indicated on google maps.

SE phones....you cant compare symbian phones to SE !!

hey guys, here are my two cents ..

about k850i - i called it failed product cos it is centered around its 5mp cam which is not substancially better than the competition ..which infact is inferiour to nokia , lg and samsung camera phones.. and to top it all, n82 is not even a dedicated camera phone .. i have not used it at all ..but when sony releases a cybershot k series phone then it has to beat the competition fair & square , which is not the case.. k790i and k750i were leaders in their time.. then , i read a lot about various probs on esato forum.. u can do it urself ..just check that forum ..

@n82 - some people say it has useless features as gps and wifi .. i used a prog called nokia sports tracker which is based on gps ..fantastic app ..wifi is very useful too ..tv out lets u connect ur phone to large tvs ..like i do on my 29" one ..even play games and can watch those fantastic vga videos recorded with n82 on tv .. its xenon flash is stronger than k850i xenon flash .. its very fast phone with 92 mb usable ram after bootup ..camera is top notch. sound through 3.5 mm jack with creative ep 630 is fantastic .. and not a single person who have seen my silver n82 has termed it "ugly" as most people would make to believe u .. i can go about on and on about n82 ..and there are a heck lot of apps and games on symbian ..not just smart movie etc .. those who have used symbian wont comment like this ..d pad and soft keys of n82 is good to operate ..as well as its keypad ..not a prob at all ...use it and then comment .. n82 is one super all round phone ..best till now ..

again its upto u .. just posted this so other can make their choice ..

off topic
which games u r playing on it

i want fifa for this phone

on the topic this phone has grapics processor and is a good feature too.

see wat if u r buying ur new pc and it has inbuilt wifi.
in that case wifi would be very useful features for the phone.

so i m saying that go with n-82

Nokia N82 v Sony Ericsson K850i

Below are a few sample pics, taken on the Nokia N82 and the Sony Ericsson K850i. Both phones have a 5.0 megapixel camera, with auto focus, and a Xenon flash. The Nokia Also has a Carl Zeiss Lens. Click on the images to see them in full size. Which do you prefer?

This picture was taken on macro mode:

I think the results are clear enough. Chalk another one up for the Nokia N82.

Google :

Two devices come to mind instantly - Sony Ericsson K850i and Nokia N82. While the former is certainly easier to carry around (it's smaller), the latter is a smartphone and we all know that opens a whole new world of 3rd-party apps. Still, some people may find all they need in the Sony Ericsson's model. Anyway, we have tons of photos of the two devices standing side by side which will hopefully help choose the device you like better…

Which is worth buying, sony ericsson k850i or nokia n82?

*answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20071125192533AA7NSH8&show=7

Compared to the Sony Ericsson K850i, we think the Nokia N82 is overall a better choice, even if it doesn't support AT&T's HSDPA network (compare specifications). Along with a top-performing 5-megapixel camera, the N82 also comes with Nokia's Mini Map browser, Wi-Fi connectivity and broad file format support for music and video (2GB memory card included). The Nokia N82 also boasts a GPS radio and Nokia Maps. An unlocked Nokia N82 is currently selling for $450 ($350 with a two-year T-Mobile contract).

The Sony Ericsson K850i on the other hand, could be a perfect match for those who require AT&T HSDPA support. Additionally, it's got a top-performing 5-megapixel camera with convenient auto-settings, and a straightforward interface for features such as calling, text messaging and music player (256MB memory card included). The K850i also supports the Opera Mini browser (optional via download), which will provide a decent experience for light mobile Internet browsing (news etc.).

Samsung G800, Nokia N82, SE K850i Cameras Compared

The review is an updated comparative analysis of cameras integrated into the top-class products of the large manufacturers’ portfolios. We've already released this sort of articles spotlighting deathmatches between various 5 Mpix handsets, but now we’re going to review a few devices positioned as the best photo-oriented solutions on the market. The matter concerns Samsung G800, Nokia N82 and SonyEricsson K850i. It’s these cameraphones that are most often brought up for discussion, each being the key device for the manufacturer in the year 2008. Besides, they have much in common regarding their cameras.

Let's dwell on camera implementation features in these devices and begin with Samsung G800. The camera module utilized by G800 isn't something extraordinary, yet it puts the quality in the first place. It lacks dedicated controls such as a camera launch button or a mode switching slider found with K850i. There is no gallery button like with N82 either, but the available features are reasonably located and perfectly implemented. The camera button is middle-sized, both smooth and tight to push and very comfortable in general. The volume control rocker button is found nearby, also functioning as the zoom button. Its location is almost ideal, which contributes a lot to the high ergonomics of the G800 camera. In contrast to K850i the keypad doesn't feature any important camera function symbols placed on the keypad buttons - though that doesn't mean that the keys can't be used as shortcuts to those. For instance, the 1 key switches the shooting mode, the * key turns on the flashlight, etc. The thing we didn’t like in hardware implementation of the G800 camera is a protective cover. It sticks out above the surface for about 2 mm (the thickness is 18.5 at that spot) which is even more than with N95. The opening mechanism is too tight, and no finger rest is provided for - in some cases it's the sliding mechanism that opens instead of the cover, the situation is similar to the problem observed with the K770i model which suffers from a similar problem. The viewfinder of G800 beats the N82 model easily, let alone the K850i. The software algorithm used for transmitting the picture from camera to the screen is far above than just good, the powerful Quallcomm platform doing its best. Maybe Samsung lose a tiny bit of their authority by engaging a third party in supplying them with hardware, but this has a large positive effect on performance capabilities.

Maybe Samsung lose a tiny bit of their authority by engaging a third party in supplying them with hardware, but this has a large positive effect on performance capabilities.

SonyEricsson K850i hasn't got a protective cover; the lens is covered with a glass which should be wiped prior to every shooting session. The xenon flashlight location isn’t smart enough, you can easily block it with your hand, but instead there is a camera mode switch button – the handset employs a three-position slide button switching between Photo, Video and Gallery. A separate camera button is also available though it doesn’t make a big difference, more likely being the cost of the active protective cover lack.

In our opinion Nokia N82 enjoys the most successful protective cover implementation. Its design is most optimal - the lens guard doesn't stick out so it can't be possibly damaged by scratching against the resting surface of the phone (unlike with N95).

Comparison

There is no need to comment on the photos, the quality speaks for itself. Below we give the examples of shots taken at maximal resolution. The xenon flashlight implementation is of utmost interest, for Nokia and Samsung devices can boast of the element for the first time.

Samsung G800 / Nokia N82 / SE K850i

*img.smape.com/images/review/Cameras/N82vsG800vsK850/cams/Nokia_N82_029.jpg

The examples show obvious superiority of the Nokia N82 flashlight comparable to digital cameras in matters of power and principle of operation, which cannot be said about K850i and G800

Examples of shooting indoors

At close-up shooting the Samsung G800 flashlight often gives a glare that is clearly visible on some pictures.

At daytime shooting K850i tends to unnatural color rendering and the contrast of its images on the whole leaves much to be desired.

Samsung G800 / Nokia N82 / SE K850i

Conclusion

So, the viewed photos give a perfectly clear idea of the camera potential of these top-class solutions in each manufacturer’s product range. In our subjective opinion Nokia N82 is a doubtless leader in all cases save zooming. K850i ranks last among these photo-oriented flagships. In spite of more than modest results as compared to the other companies’ solutions, K850i is the best SonyEricsson cameraphone at present.

One should mind that all three devices have various additional specifications which include pricing. K850i is the most affordable of the reviewed variants though its price differs from N82 and G800. Don’t you find this situation interesting? For the N82 smartphone with the best camera, a Wi-Fi module, GPS, a TV-output, high ergonomics and the best sales package (2 Gb flash card) such extra price looks justified, and the price policy of Sony Ericsson seems to have gone wrong.

Man, if you still find loads of reasons to buy k series...Search Google....atleast..the more you go..the more you will be confuse!

From my view..I will vote for n82 !!

@Gourav, just have a look at the pics taken by the N82 posted by neeraj....Compare the pics taken by N82 with the ones taken by K850i...The results r in front of u...The pics taken with N82 r brighter and crisper and full of details whereas the ones taken with K850i lack the punch...

N82's cam is just superb and K850i doesn't come anywhere near it....

^^ C902 looks great and its slim. Its just 10.5mm....If they could have included Wi-fi then it would have been a little better but considering the form factor, this fone is great.
Those 8 camera touch keys look good.....I think they trimmed down the screen size to 2 inches because of this. + a nice 160MB internal memory...

N73ME -howz this phone?heard it become sluggish after sometime(symbian)?still I am inclined to buy this one :| .very confused esp after N82 released.

N73 is a great VFM phone. It has an excellent 3.2 MP AF camera, good music player & s60 v3 i.e OS 9.1 which is a good OS. The phone is slow for sure but the newer firmwares have made it fast.

I would strongly suggest a Nokia 5700 for you. It has a fastest proccy working at 369mhz, which make the phone breezy. The sound is good if you pair it with good headphones like Creative EP-630.Has s60 v3 FP1 i.e OS 9.2 The only bad thing about this phone is it's 2MP camera, which is average. In night time it's almost useless.

If you own a good camera then go for 5700. I think you have naa W810i??

so 5700 is out,otherwise a good fone.

N78 is the replacement for N73....N78 has got the latest Symbian OS 9.2...

Anyways, if you want you can wait for G700 from SE which has Symbian UIQ and will bring the touch-screen experience to mid-range mobiles.....:D Well, still I'm not sure about the price but its going to be ~15K i.e. around the price of N78 *www.gsmarena.com/sony_ericsson_g700-2248.php

Yes, its features are worth the investment for another 3 years but wait again for some time.....

But I'll advise you to further wait for 3-4 months until reviews come out about the performance of N78.....:)

As you can see, both SE and Nokia are launching mobiles in the current months, so considering the scenario, you should surely wait.....After some time you'll surely get to know which mobile from which company will be good for you....:)

Prakash, don't buy symbian on Nokia. it has DRM inbuilt, has a monopoly over Mobile phone OS & is closed source. buy motorokr E6 or Razr V8 based on Linux, go the FOSS, support FOSS, jai freedom

I have no idea whether N73 production will stop or not but even if it does the present owners of the phone have nothing to worry about. The phone will continue to get support from Nokia in case there is some problem with it. Nokia has also just launched a firmware upgrade for N73, so that's not a problem as well. Plus N73 is a very popular phone. After the production stops (if it ever does), the demand for second hand phones will increase. So if you've bought a N73 now you'll get a very good price if you decide to sell it later on. N73 itself is a very good phone with an excellent camera, good display, fantastic loudspeakers and great features including Symbian OS.

N78 might be the replacement for N73 but that does not necessarily mean that Nokia will stop the production of N73. N73 was also supposedly the replacement for N70 but N70 continued to sell even after the arrival of N73. As for the price itself, there is absolutely no way that the price of N78 will be higher than the price of N82/N95. If my guess is correct, it'll cost around 17-18k initially and drop down to 16k in a months time. Going for N78 instead of N73 makes sense, but only if the budget allows. Otherwise N73 is a good phone on its own.

It won't be 25k. Do you really think Nokia will price a phone with 3mp camera at 25k when N82/N95 with 5mp cameras are priced at 20k? If Nokia has to sell N78, it'll have to be priced below N82.

Thank you for providing that link. I guess it is now very clear that Nokia indeed is ahead of SE when it comes to camera quality. And I know some people will try to give excuses that C902 had an older beta firmware, but then so does 6220c.

That means it shouldn't be too long before we see N78 in stores.

U know abt the concept of pasting....I got my phone pasted for 80 bucks....In this a plastic sheet is stuck on the phone's body with heat...This is totally different from lamination....The phone becomes scratch resistant as scratches occur (if they do occur) only on the plastic sheet then..

So the phone looks totally brand new even after 2 yrs...

I got my K750i 1.8 yrs. back...It looks totally new till date..

And he didn't have any idea when the next piece would arrive !

I also had a look at the silver one. It's keypad was almost impossible for me to press. Is the case same with the Black one?

so go and get k850i because black n82 will also have the same keypad

I don't think that the keypad is a problem...It is just a matter of getting used 2 it...The keypad has a lot of spacing in between the keys, so the chances of pressing a wrong key are less...:D

Its not just about not pressing a wrong key. The question is the comfort factor.

If u use a N82 for a few days...... & then lay your hands on other mobiles such as good old Nokia 6600 or Nokia 6233 or Nokia 5700....... u know what u r missing in the N82.

I am not questioning the features of the N82 nor comparing it with outdated mobiles like 6600, 5700 or 6233.

Its just that the keypad is the most used part of the mobile and having an uncomfortable keypad takes away some of the fun of having a N82.

True !

In fact, keypad easy depends on person to person. Like, I am very comfortable with the keypad of K810 or K850 whereas a lot of people are not.

BTW, guys, the N82 Black is just not available out here. Seems, I'll have to go with K850i.
Any issues of hanging etc in K850i ???

heehe I started reading this thread queit late, a good comparision, and using word brick,
in my words all nokias' are bricks because they are of much solid make than any of the SE, and I say regardless of the fact I use SE K550, but guys if its just like that comparing good eye candy design then samsung and LG are better than nokia or even samsung.

so buddy gourav, its upto you as uppalpankaj said earlier with a very good and neat comparision what you wanna buy, after reading through suggestions, because any problem comes up its your head which will be tensed we would be just helping out.

and for my words, N82 being Symbian and equally priced to K850, is better, because after paying so much you will like to keep your phone atleast 2 years, and by that time you yourself would not know what apps you loaded, and symbian will be really able to handle things well.

Even then with good java base support and cool designed K850 you wont regret, keypads of nowadays mobile are good(keypads of 5500 sport is what no company would wanna repeat), and you can get used to them quick and easy. and light weightness of K850 would make it have even better feel in your hands.

Good Luck in whatever you buy.

Please i am really skeptical about this speaker thing.

i find it stupid design to place both speakers on same side of the phone ..as i said n82 speakers are not as loud as n73 ones ..about 60% of n73 speakers .. they placed it on right side ..so that u can watch videos in landscape mode with left and right channel sound coming from both sides of screen ..nice concept ..but i dont like it ...if ur one of those who listens music through ur phones speakers more than the headset then u will be dissappointed with n82 speakers .. cos n73 is way better in this regard..

also abt speed of n82 ...for last two months i am using it with 8gb card without any single issue ..no speed lags..nothing whatsoever ..even when the card is filled 100%.. n82 has support upto 32gb ..with upto 16gb cards available in market .. in india u can easily get upto 8gb ..

The speakers are positioned like that because when you are viewing videos full screen by turning the phone horizontal, the speakers will be on top and you'll get stereo sound. If the speakers had been positioned on either side of the phone as in N95 then you would not have got stereo sound while viewing videos.

here is the one of the user opinion of G900

I got the G900 yesterday. I was totally disappointed. SLOW SLOW SLOW!

The camera is really bad. The touch focus is nice but without nice quality pictures it is useless.

The screen is dim, not sharp and not vivid.

I am taking it back for sure!

I prefer to wait for a few weeks and get something decent.

G900 screen color seems a bit "off" to me. Is very bright and "White" not sure why. I tried changing the Theme "which honestly took Forever", and the colors are still the same not sure if that's the touch screen fault. The touch screen is quiet responsive, but getting around the menu sometimes slows down, but only just a little.

The size is perfect and the keys are great. The camer pictures are nowhere as good comepared to my K800i even at 5 megapixel (this is only based on, onscreen comparison), the touch screen autofocus is FUN. But the whiten screen really annoys me. I was dead set to get this phone till i saw the screen. (Before I got the hands on with the G900 I played with the Diamond with the VGA mon) maybe that's why I was so disappointed with the screen.

Guys, I am not a brand follower...So was just researching if C902 is better than N82 so that I can go for the C902 instead of N82 (if it is better)

AND SEE WHAT I FOUND ON THE SE FORUM:
*forums.se-nse.net/lofiversion/index.php/t29587.html

(Read the first post and the excerpt from mobile-review.com)

After reading it seems that C902 is also not better than N82....

check out the tv-out section here

here is the one of the user opinion of G900

I got the G900 yesterday. I was totally disappointed. SLOW SLOW SLOW!

The camera is really bad. The touch focus is nice but without nice quality pictures it is useless.

The screen is dim, not sharp and not vivid.

I am taking it back for sure!

I prefer to wait for a few weeks and get something decent.

Couldn't u make out that my post was in a lighter vein ? :)
Sorry my friend!
Actually I am quite worried from the past few days. So, didn't think of it that way.

Anyways, it's clear that N82 is indeed a great phone. No doubts on that.
But, what about if we compare N82 and N95.
As both are almost equally priced, which one is more value for money?

dedicated music keys + slider

So here is a head 2 head comparison of N82 with C902:
1. Display Size - N82 - 2.4'', C902 - 2''
N82 wins as bigger display is always better
2. Display resolution – N82 – 16 M , C902 – 262K
N82 wins again…
3. Weight – N82 – 114 g, C902 – 107 g (Minor issue and can b negated)
4. Phonebook – N82-unlimited entries, C902 – 30 entries
N82 wins as u can store unlimited entries…
5. Call records – N82 – 30 days, C902 – 30 entries
N82 wins
6. Memory – N82 – 100 MB (Internal) + 128 MB (SDRAM) = 228 MB (Total),
C902 – 160 MB
N82 has more memory so it is better..

7. GPRS – N82 – Class 32 (107 kbps), C902 - Class 10( 32 - 48 kbps )
So, GPRS connectivity is better in N82 has it has more speed.
8. EDGE – N82 - Class 32, 296 kbps, C902 - Class 10, 236.8 kbps
So, EDGE Connectivity is faster in N82..

Extras in N82 as compared to C902

1. Symbian OS in N82..So more apps are available for N82.
2. N82 has Wifi which C902 lacks.
3. N82 has TV Out feature which C902 doesn’t have.
4. N82 has GPS which is absent in C902.
5. N82’ s cam has a xenon flash with a carl zeiss optics..So, It is better than C902…(I
really can’t figure out why SE left the Xenon flash in C902. They had given it in
K810i but then why it was not included in C902)
6. N82 has Motion sensor with UI auto rotate which is not present in C902.
7. N82 has office document viewer – so u can view ur docs after loading them in N82
which is not possible in the case of C902.
8. N82 has 3.5 mm audio output jack, so u can plug in any headphones which is not
possible in the case of C902.
9. N82 – It has ARM 11 332 MHz processor...It is really fast...

Extras in C902 as compared to N82.
There r not many and I found these:
1. Thickness – C902 – 10.5 mm, N82 – 17.3 MM
2. C902 has 8 illuminated camera touch keys which N82 lacks…

But, looking at the above comparison the pros of N82 r definitely more than the pros of C902…So, I think N82 is definitely better.:D:D

For confirmation see the following link:

screen size is less due to the presencse of the 8 touch keys...

wifi and gps-you have adapters costing as low as 1.5k to provide for gps and wifi activities...and much more powerful than that inbuilt..

c902 will come with an adapter obviosuly and n82 comes with a some roadside crap headphones..

the c902 has support for 3d games which the n82 doesnt.

the c902 comes preloaded with EA games coz SE has an exclusive contract with EA...

n82 has support for 3d games ..it has dedicated graphics accelerator ..go check "global race" on n82 , n95 8gb .. n82 bundled earphones are good .. definetely better than roadside earphones .. what is a use of facedetection when it cant produces better image than the competition .. and that photoflash is no way better than xenon flash of n82 ..

and those additional wifi and gps modules will work on bluetooth which will drain ur battery much faster than integrated one ..not to mention u need to carry one more additional device with u ..

and slimmest phone means its optics will be crappiest ..hee hee ..and yes, if its not on par with n82 , then it must be because of beta firmware .. we will wait for stable one for few more months ..

Yeah, I agree its not better than Xenon, but quite comparable to Xenon and will not be a battery sucker like Xenon....

1. Lol...Bigger display isn't always better
2. Those are colours and you can't really differentiate between the colours on such a small screen. Resolution is Pixel by Pixel and both have the same resolution i.e. 240*320 pixels...
3. C902 has less weight + a great form factor....It doesn't look a brick
4. Phonebook.....both have unlimited entries [Limited to memory]
5. Here N82 wins
6. Intenral memory and RAM are compltely different things......I guess you probably don't store your documents on your computer's RAM. C902 has 160MB internal memory and it wins here.
7,8. In India it doesn't make any difference. You can't even expect to get 237kbps on EDGE here in India.......

Extras in N82 as compared to C902
1. Symbian OS in N82..So more apps are available for N82.
2. N82 has Wifi which C902 lacks.

9. N82 – It has ARM 11 332 MHz processor...It is really fast...
1. Agreed.
2. Agreed.
3. C902 has TV-out.......
4. N82s GPS is slow BTW....anyways, C902 doesn't have GPS.
5. Photoflash of C902 isn't a battery sucker like Xenon and its performance is quite comparable.
6. C902 also has it.
7. This is same as 1.......It has Symbian.
8. Agreed.
9. And Symbian makes it equally slow.....

So, only +ve of N82 are: Symbian, Wi-fi, GPS, 3.5mm jack

Extras in C902 as compared to N82.
There r not many and I found these:
1. Thickness – C902 – 10.5 mm, N82 – 17.3 MM

It may not be as good as a Xenon flash, but its equivalent to 3 LED flashes.....C902 is under development and GSMArena guys are pleased with the performance of C902's photoflash. Performance is definitely going to increase in the final product. Actually Photoflash is a good low power alternative to Xenon flash......

@uppal-do your research when you are commenting on an SE phone with me in the forum..

Its no use arguing with u....When all the phone users around the globe r really disappointed with the phones that SE is making in the 5 MP category, u seem 2 be raving abt them...

Let me take ur post one by one:
1. I know the difference between ROM and RAM...Read my post carefully....I compared memory and not ROM/RAM and this is why I added the two together...I did not say Internal memory...N82 has more memory (RAM + ROM added together)...More RAM means that N82 will b faster in opening applns. and processing..

2. The C902 does not have a Xenon flash which is more powerful than photoflash..What is the use of it when the camera does not perform upto expectations? ( I really wanted SE to include the Xenon flash in C902)

3. Display Colours do matter as it is the no. of colours that can b produced...I bought the K750i but when my bro got the Nokia 6300, I was amazed 2 see its display...There was lot of punch in the display and colours looked more vibrant on 6300 as compared 2 my K750i...(My K750i is the best otherwise)

4. Display Size - Don't tell me that this does not matter...If the display is bigger, it give a better experience of net surfing...N82 has 2.4'' whereas C902 only 2''

5. Yes the C902 phonebook can store only 1000 x 20 fields [Actually I mistyped by saying 30 entries- (This was call records)].. The N82 can store unlimited entries in its phonebook..N82 scores...

6. Call records C902 - 30, N82 - 30 days....Can you actually come 2 know who called u 30 days back from C902...With N82 u can come 2 know on the 30th day also..This can only b possible with C902 if u make only one call/day which is not possible.

7. N82 has symbian, wifi, gps, 3.5 mm jack, Office Document Viewer- These r not there in C902...
8. C902 has face detection - What is the use of this when u cannot click better photos?
9. The Track Id and Play Now r paid and useless features in C902..Who is gonna pay 4 them to use them???
10. N82 - Carl Zeiss Optics and Xenon flash...
11. India is progressing and 3G will b launched by nexr yr. Then the 3G speeds will matter...

Overall N82 is a better package....Rest time will tell when C902 is launched...Just do a search on google and u will come 2 know which is better coz SE users r really disappointed...

Anyways...As I said no use arguing...V will once again discuss when C902 is launched and then will take this discussion 2 a higher level....:D

Well there is no doubt that the camera performance of SE phones is dropping after the K800i/K770i. The 5mp phones are nothing special and definitely not upto expectations, which were raised by the previous SE phones. Except for a few adamant SE fans, most people are disappointed by the performance of these new phones. K850i turned out to be a major disappointment, no matter how much SE fans would disagree. Leave alone creating new benchmarks, it couldn't even reach the ones created by its predecessors.

On the other hand is Nokia which is making up for ground which it lost to previous SE phones. Its current range of 5mp phones are ruling the roost. A couple more 5mp phones are planned to release in the next few months, which if not better, will atleast have the existing quality standard. So they are definitely on the rise.

A lot now depends upon the C902 and G900. If they fail to deliver, people are definitely going to be very disappointed and SE will lose a major chunk of the pie, that is the 5mp phones market. Not to mention the loss of respect in the eyes of camera phone buyers.

Dude, G900 isn't being made as a CAMERA phone......It has been made as a Touch-screen Smartphone - a purpose which it serves rightly.....though it is offering Touch Focus, which no other camera phone - even your favourite Nokia N82 can't offer -- Focus where you want to focus by just touching the screen. Isn't it good??

and SE's is now more intent on the mid range market with its portfolio filled to the brim with low/mid end products...they are trying to create a base...but knowing SE they are bouncing back with the likes of the c902 and new firmwares for the k850...

the k850 will reportedly have face detection too with a latter firmware...

Isn't it good??

what will you do with the touch focus when the camera does not have quality only

btw it has got a good touch screen

K850i is selling slow here. The shop where I get the mobile prices from has now started selling K850i without bill for 16k. This tactic is usually deployed when the handsets are selling slow and there is a hope that the lower pricetag might attract customers. Popular models like N82 are not sold without bill.

Sony Ericsson G900 / Nokia N82

Daytime shooting samples are more self-explaining. N82 gives you better contrast, sharp object edges, a crisper image and more natural colors, at times bordering on oversaturation, though the overall impression is better than Sony Ericsson produces, because of the latter's bleak and blurry pictures. The sick pink tint in which SE pictures often sink is still recognizable just like with K850i and C902, meaning that no effort was undertaken to improve the image processing routine – resulting in a very average camera after all.

Sony Ericsson G900 / Nokia N82

As you see, a regular LED flash can't beat the xenon flash of Nokia N82, the gap in quality is pretty dramatic.

SMAPE's opinion

Conclusions drawn from the analysis of the camera unit employed by Sony Ericsson G900 are rather ambiguous. The camera unit yields to Nokia N82 in terms of setting variety, photo and video quality, leaving the latter the absolute leader on this front so far. On the other hand, G900 seems to be a better option as long as the camera functionality / overall functionality ratio is concerned, which is on a level with the K850i flagship.

The photo which I've posted is from the Final G900 bought by some Swedish Chef.......

Well Krates is just trying to prove that its camera is nothing in front of N82......G900 is serving a completely different purpose. It ain't a camera phone. It is a Touch-screen Symbian Smartphone. And well to all the Nokia fans here, Nokia's Symbian S60 doesn't support Touch Screen.......

And considering the photo which I posted above, I think a G900 buyer will be satisfied by its camera performance. PS: And please Krates now don't say that its camera is poor, N82 rocks blah blah.....I was not comparing G900 with your favourite N82....I was just saying that G900's camera is fine though N82 has an excellent camera.

also , the reason se ruled in 2mp and 3mp cam department because of lack of serious competition .. just look at 5mp arena .. so may contenders ...and they lost to nokia ..and even samsung and lg is better than se.. and dont be surprised if the upcoming moto 5mp phone would beat se too..

BTW, amd, since you are using K850, I want to ask you something.

LOLzzz...m not here making him go for the k850..i gave my views and was done with it..

I find it challenging to fight against fifty peaopleon one side and me on the other..lol.. :D

@krates-dont lie..you may have seen a nokia phone but not a symbian phone..

the first proper symbian was the 6600 with a megapixel cam..just chk out sum 6600 if someone uses it yet and look at the lag...

i really dont find myself using most of the features..and if i wont use them its not worth buying them...coz..the wifi and gps get corrupt pretty soon..and once they are..it costs a bomb to repair them...

what is the reason for huge price difference between K810i and K850i  @amd?
dreamcatcher
Jun 5, 2008 at 12:25 AM
its basically the 5 mp cam,the a200 platform under the jp-8 structure that has resulted in the price difference to such an extent..dont forget that k810 is almost a 1.5 year old model while the k850 is relativle new...it will come down in a few months...when SE releases more of its 5 mp phones and the much touted 8 mp phone..

^^^innovation??

here goes-check out the lighting effects of the W580 or the K850..
the soft touch buttons in the k850 and the C902..
The Half Qwerty in the P1i..praised by all and sundry
bluetooth watches..now if u get a call the information is transmitted to your watch through bluetooth..including user id..

the C702 is splash and dust resistant..

motion sensing in the W380..just swipe your phone to start the music...or move your hand over the phone to accept a call or reject it..

Face detection in the c902..

sense me in walkman phones ehcih organises the songs according to your mood..

shake me feature in walkmans..

gawd man..what more do you want??i can gie you more btw.. :D

if you are talking of innovation you must point out a phone by a different company that has "innovated" something...

n82 is not innovation...its just a feature packed phone...

Remeber you are user of SE phones alone as u have yourself pointed out and may have seen or handled other companies just for argument sake....

but this is never taken by anyone seriously that your word is last when it comes to SE....

as you yourself have admitted of being a fanboy how can any one of other members can think that they can have a contructive argument with you..none can and will...as lots a post in this thread itself pointed out....

All the things could be said as a feature list.... an innovation is when it completey change how we use or see things...when k750 was launched we were simpky blown away..entire world stood up and took notice....after that maybe walkman series also did that....but after that none....

best example would be this --> how the above said features do innvation???...they just made the handset user friendly and easy...thats all....
--> what does face detection in actual world now have changed??? does that c902 captured markets attention??? no it didnt...but who knows maybe it will in future...

coming to argument about n82....i never want to argue about that to you...you cannoy understand....then how can i possibly do that....and about n82....never used it...so i dont know....

what i presented here is a matter of deduction from my POV....nothing else... :)
N
nikhilpai #362
Jun 5, 2008 at 10:42 AM
gimmicks??
wifi is an innovation?? :O
Samsung with their P200 was the fist phone to have Wifi...
Gps is an innovation??

you just take these features and pack them in a cell..this amounts to innovation??if it does then am sorry...

Let me make it more simple so that u can understand.

Its better to have a feature rich phone with non-innovative features like Wifi & GPS than have a innovative featureless phone with "innovations" like shake me & sense me.

I know u will still not understand.....but no harm in trying one more time :))

It's not fair to Compare Yesterdays Mobiles with Todays one....... Technology is improving/growing every micro second. There are so many innovations taking place... We won't be surprise, if todays configuration of BEST PC (computer) would be the configuration of Tomorrows mobile and much more....
Nokia 6600 at it's time was a fantastic mobile, the similar way N82/K850 would be nothing One/two year down the line, compared to the mobiles then.

Well, first of all I am sorry if I called you all as Nokia fanboys.
Perhaps I said that in the heat of the moment !!
Sorry again !!

Secondly, when I say that my budget is 20k does not necessarily mean that I'll have to use up all of my money.

And then, if you all think that this thread is a waste then it think over it again.

N82 is a better phone than K850i. I have said it many times. In fact, I had even made up my mind to go with it. It's the price fall in K850i that made me change my decision.

Also, even when N82 is a better phone, K850i too has its own advantages over N82.
Just hold both the phones and play different songs in both of them at full volume. The difference in loudness is so huge that you won't be able to know which song is being played on the N82.
In addition the battery life of K850i is much better.
And then, the fantastic looks of K850i beats N82 quite easily.

Now don't tell me that N82 has a wifi, gps, symbian OS etc etc ...
I'll won't be using them in any case so it does not matter to me.
So I don't find any use of spending an additional 4k to buy N82 instead of K850i.

Sorry, I if I wasted your time. And I hope that I have made myself clear !!!

If u r so clear that u r never going to use Wifi, GPS & Symbian then there was no need to consider the N82 and start this thread. :)

And make sure u r going to use a 5 MP camera. Because tomorrow if u say that u don't require a 5 MP cam also, then u don't need a K850i as well because if u leave aside advanced features such as GPS & Wifi then there are many other phones to choose from.

IMO ,you spending almost Rs8000 more to get K850i is the most wasting of your money. In that case N82 serves better. (K810i after pricedrop is 10600)

Why?because K850i isnt a big difference from K810i.apart from a 5MP camera. this 3.2MP camera is more than enough IMHO. :) spend your money wisely ;)

Ya u r completely right...K810i is an awesome phone with a great cam (the best in 3.2 MP category)...I had decided 2 get it initially. Then, I extended my budget and thought of going 4 the N82...

I think one should either get K810i and save money as u said or go for N82 straightaway...Another option is to wait for 2 months coz by then the N82 will come down 2 17k hopefully and then get it...I am waiting for this too so that I can get the N82....:D

Hii guys ...

I've finally got my cell ...

And it's N82 Black .... !!!
After holding it, it didn't look as ugly as the silver one, so I decided to go for it !
Though, I still need to get hold of the keypad though.
And, it's camera is fantastic. Overall speed is also good.

And lots of thanks to you all guys. I would not have got this masterpiece if you all had not advised me.

Now, I need to get another cell for my brother. Around 10 - 15k. What do you all say about it? I am thinking to get Samsung i450 ...

Congrats! For your brother I'll recommend getting a W890i.

Wts ur bro's need.
Nothing in particular actually. Good camera, good music, descent looks and battery life would do.

Also, I've heard a lot about c902? How much will it be priced? And by when will it be available?

i450,w910 for the showoff stuff.
iatb.gourav
Jun 12, 2008 at 10:12 AM
showoff is always a nice thing to do. But not at the expense of quality.
And, which one would be better ... a Symbian OS 9.2, Series 60 v3.1 UI with 3D sound i450 or the ever popular walkman branded w910 ?

^^^ is that on the fact that it's symbian or bcz or music ?

As Girish said, both. i450's music quality is above that of the Walkmans and the fact that it's a Symbian is the icing on the cake. Only advantage of W910i is that it's slimmer and has accelerometer. Whether these features are important or not depends upon the preferences of your brother.

Btw I just remembered that you can also get a N81 under 15k. This phone is even better than i450. I'll suggest you go for N81. It'll also sound nice, small brother-N81, elder brother-N82. :D

It's not that I need to be strictly under 15k. I can increase my budget if required.

Anyways, has anyone used i450?
I want to know about the loudness of music ?
Secondly, is it slow like other symbian phones?

^^^ thnx.

but please help me on getting another one.
I am totally confused.

1st I thought of Samsung i450, but then I knew that it's volume is not that loud so I dont want to go for it.

Now, I want to know that how does SE w910 perform as a music phone?
Also, is there a huge gap in music capabilities between K850i and W910 ???

I've used a few low end Samsung and wasn't impressed at all by them.
That's why I am not very keen on getting them.

My main priority is "music - loud & clear", of course backed up by a good battery life.
That's why I decided to go with SE w910.
At the same time, I don't mind having a good camera also.

If the k850i is not far behind w910 in terms of playing music then I'll get that.
Or else, I'll have to compromise on the camera part by getting w910.

Now, please help me decide ...

^^ That was N81 vs W960i, not K850i.

Gourav if you want loud and clear music and a good camera, then get a N73 ME. You can also check out 5610/6500 Slide which also have a powerful loudspeaker and a good camera.

Don't go for Samsung. The battery backup of Samsung and LG sucks....

If music is ur priority, go for the N73 ME...With latest firmwares, it is not at all sluggish now. Its music quality is excellent....

If u want an excellent cam and good music but not the best as compared to N73 ME, then go for the K810i...

if music is a priority dont go for nokia...

the n78, which was rumoured to be at par with the n91 has failed miserably in the gsmarena tests..and it carries the same audio chip as the n91...i suggest, if not samsung, then nokia w890..sleek and powerful and a good 3 mp cam..my frnd has it...really sleek..

guys, one silly question

I M buying a Nokia N82 next month. I will either use Airtel or Idea EDGE service on it. Is there any torrent client for Symbian OS? Will it be possible for me to download TV shows like Heroes or House from Torrent in the mobile phone & save to phone's memory card?

I don't have a computer here yet, so I want to know whether I can download 110 MB Videos from Torrents in phone & see in phone.

@ gx_saurav

Just recently got an Nokia N82 Black and i love it and i am sure you will too.

Use SymTorrent
*www.aut.bme.hu/portal/SymTorrent.aspx?lang=en

It can also use wifi for faster downloads than Edge.

I use it to download files as big as 750Mb on my 2gb card. I suggest you get yourself a 8gb card if you download a lot.

Cheers :D

means downloading using Torrent clients in phone itself is possible.

now, is downloading such big files allowed on Airtel or Idea EDGE Service?

I don't need more then 2 GB Card which is free with phone. I m using 512 MB card with K750i, but even that isn't full.

All I want is to use my phone as a computer.

Yep SymTorrent is an symbian application and its runs on S60 Platform 3rd and 2nd edition and yes it runs on the phone and downloads files into the memory card.

I have used it with Airtel edge and wifi and works perfectly.

I think Utsav here too is downloading stuff over torrents directly on his Symbian phone. So I have no doubt N82 can do that as well. One just needs an unlimited gprs connection.

@gx_saurav - No problems downloading via symtorrent... no file limitation nothing... Just your phone becomes unreachable(You won't be able to receive call & SMS) while downloading is in progress.

Myself I download via Symtorrent. :)

good then. which EDGE service is good in Delhi then for my use?

I can switch to airtel if they give free local & STD SMS like Idea. I really like Idea's phone service.

i will check N82 & Idea EDGE in Delhi. If it is good for me then I will use unlimited Idea EDGEd else switch to Airtel/Vodafone.

I m bringing my computer to Delhi next week & till we get Airtel or MTNL broadband we will be using EDGE in computer for net

Aur phone unreachable kabhi-kabhi hota hai, har baar nahi. Jab heavy downloading chal raha ho tab hi.
