Hi Guys,

I need some help buying a TV. I have set out to buy a TV and I t is after a long time, a period of 20 years that I am planning to buy a TV trying to update from the old CRT TV. Having said that I still do not have a very extravagant and lavish budget to buy a TV, So I believe to begin with 43 inches is what an ideal TV should be? Or should I be going even higher in the display size ? the viewing distance from my TV to the place from where I am gonna be watching this TV is going to be 10 feet so I don’t think for a area more than 10 feet you need anything more than 43 inches I believe that would be sufficient ? Would it be not? Please correct me if I’m wrong?

Secondly my budget is starting from 20-40K. Ideally I would like to have all the features available in today’s modern generation TV, which is connect to set up box like Apple TV, Amazon Fire stick etc…I don’t know if I can get a 4K display in this if I have to look out for 4K display, what is the budget that I should have?

And if Not 4K Display what Resolution TV would I get in the above range ?

Can I get a 4K display in this budget?

Please suggest?

Thanks

I do not know the current market models but I can give some basic pointers and suggestions.

4K is possible in your budget.

What is the current size of your TV? Considering it is an old CRT TV, it will not be bigger than 43", this size is an upgrade. But imo, 43 inches is small for a distance of 10ft. Go for 50 inches if not above.

You did not mention what quality you will be watching on the TV. Is your setup box HD? if yes, then going for 4K resolution is worth. Otherwise stick to FHD TV and below 50 inch size.

40K is decent budget for 50 inch 4K TV. Try to get the demo of VU. Hisense is another brand which has good feature set and cheaper than VU, but VU seem to have better service. You can check online which service center brand is available in your city. Note: VU was using Hisense panel earlier, not sure if its the same case.

Regular LG, Samsung are also available in your budget, a bit expensive than others, but compare the picture quality in showroom at least once against Vu/Hisense if deciding to go with LG/Samsung.

Sony is really expensive, you will get 43 inch Sony in your budget but not 50inches. If you are getting some good deal, make sure the model is only 1-2 years old at max and you are getting all the features you want.

Yes even I was doing some research and came across this information that for viewing distance of 10 Feet 43" would be a little smaller. That article suggested for 10 feet going 55" and upwards. When I talk about set top box I meant something like Apple TV and Amazon Firestick, the regular TV channels will be provided by the cable operator so I don't know if I will get 4K there. But man 4K TV range in Sony, Samsung,LG is easily 50K and above that too for the size I am looking for which is 55" and above is going to break my bank balance

I am ready to explore into VU and Hi-Sense but do they offer a good after sales warranty and service ? And how is the image, picture quality of VU and Hi-Sense ?

Vu seem to be popular, even some forum members have bought it in the past because of decent after sales service, which comes after big players like Sony Samsung LG. You need to check which brand has service center in your city.

I would say you will find much difference between Samsung and VU picture quality.

How is your seating arrangement?
If you are sitting directly in front of TV then you can go with VA panel(Samsung,Vu) which gives good contrast.
What you should specifically checking is how these VA panel handle reflection(considering windows and lights in your house) and how much of picture quality is compromised when moving towards other angles from 90 degrees.
LG has IPS panels which handles better reflection and viewing angles better but backlight bleeding, IPS glow and poor contrast.

Lets wait for other members to come with suggestions on specific models, that will help you more than my generic advice.

I have a ~43" 1080p TV and my eyes are barely 6-7 feet away from it. Ideally I can get an up to 55" TV and it'd be fine. For >=10 feet, 55" is the minimum one should get IMO. If it has HDMI, it will be able to connect to all "smart boxes".

You should get 55", it might feel too big initially but the immersive experience will be worth it.

Samsung/LG 55" 4K entry level models were 45k last year in BBD/GIS of Flipkart/amazon.

Else Vu/Redmi/Hisense are my recommendations from budget brands. Their 55" 4K is usually under 35k, will be even cheaper in upcoming sale.

IMO wait for sale & buy from amazon. FK is scamming a lot of consumers & has shit after sale support. It took me 1 month to get refund of an undelivered phone almost 3 years back. Situation is far worse now, check r/IndianGaming.

I am a big fan of IPS Displays as I us a lot of Apple devices, not sure if I would like a VA Panel TV ? So how is the Display of VU when compared to LG and Samsung which predominantly use OLED Panels ? Inferior ?

Why are you comparing OLED to budget IPS & VA?

Hisense U7K has 240 FALD zones for a 55k TV, which is great. LG A2 48" can potentially fall to 60k on sale, 70k on amazon already.

OLEDs are the best panel, unless your room is very bright, something like this, in which case stick to LCD (VA or IPS) as those have higher sustained brightness:
1695815314681.png

Even the cheap Vu 4K TV has a sustained 100% brightness close to 400nits, whereas its closer to 150-200nits for OLED at 100% window size. So it will be difficult overpower the light in the bright room.

Yes, OP, do not compare with OLEDs since its out of your budget. Vu and Samsung has good brightness to fight reflections but compare them yourself in the store. Use your phone's flash to get basic idea of TVs will handle reflections. Dont rely on showroom's lights, they are arranged in such way to make TV and picture quality look great.

IPS panels from LG are good, but IPS glow and backlight bleeding in dark scenes are turn offs, at least for me(I have LG UP80 55"), since I like to watch horror series/movies where dark scenes are very common. I am mentioning all this to give you a user perspective on how to decide which panel will be good in your surroundings for your TV shows or movies.

Hisense U series mentioned above is definitely a great TV for its price, next to it is A series which falls in your budget.

I expect no drop. 55" 4K with 240 FALD zones is very good hardware-wise. You might get some 2k off with card offers, that's all. Even 75-80k TVs like Samsung Frame has no FALD zones.

IMO better to pre-book it to get 4 year warranty + Fire Stick 4K included. OS is not android.
omega44-xt
Sep 28, 2023 at 8:00 AM
is that Bummer ?
With pre-ordering, you get Fire Stick 4K, which solves that issue. Else Fire Stick 4K is like 3.8k on sale. Fire OS is android underneath even if it lacks Play Store.

Yes OP I will also suggest the same, latest model. Last year wasn't anything special that you need to consider it instead of latest model.
Are you going to use external speaker with your TV? If not, enquire about A7K also since it comes with slightly better speaker than A6K.
Check the picture quality and sound by playing some video clip of your favorite shows. Do not rely on UHD youtube videos to judge picture quality.

Hey man. Sorry. I was in another thread thinking it was your thread.

Vu seem to have only GloLED models online. Check in your city where you can get demo of this.

Hisense A7 model seem to bigger speakers than A6. Their models are named as
Last year model- AxH
Latest model- AxK
*x can be replaced with any digit like A7K or A6K

Also try to get some good deals on LG URxxx and Samsung CUxxx in this coming Diwali sale. Go to authorized dealers where they will quote you slightly lesser than 3rd party TV showrooms.

is that a good thing or a bad thing? Is it not as bright as some of the Mini-LED-display panels that High Sense Uses ?

So if it is a something like A7K and A6K the A7K would be the latest model right ?

Also Hi-Sense has some of the disastrous reviews on Amazon where people complaining that TV failed in just 2 or 3 months of buying it. Pretty scaring actually if that is indeed the case.

GloLED is only marketting term, it is not a technical term like MiniLED or OLED. After checking online I see that it is using DLED, which is good. About brightness, it is needed to fight the reflections of ambient lights, you have lots of windows or lights in your room? for a 10ft viewing distance just check if you will need higher brightness, say, than Vu's offering.

No. K is the latest model. H was the last released model.

Hisense doesn't have good reviews online, but same goes for any brand even with their high end models. Just for peace of mind, you can go with Vu if you have the service center in your city.

I am not able to find if Hisense if ELED or DLED. generally speaking, DLED get brighter, Vu has DLED panel, it is mentioned on Flipkart.

In Mumbai you should have most brand's service center. Then you just need to get demo of Vu and then decide. Compare it with Samsung and LG models in similar budget category.

Avoid, generally considered to have lower brightness vs Vu & Hisense. Usually expensive as well.

Just wait for sale to begin on 7th. There are just a handful of models from Vu & Hisense, check out everything. From Xiaomi, its Redmi X55.

As mentioned, can consider Samsung or LG as well.

LG 55" 4K is already starting 41k with card offers extra:
www.amazon.in/LG-inches-Ultra-55UQ7500PSF-Ceramic/dp/B0B3XXSB1K

It might sound rude, but just wait till 7 Oct to see all the deals, then opt for the best value for money choice at 40K. Not much point in discussion. I will not recommend anything other than Vu, Hisense or Xiaomi 4K TVs from budget brands, be it Oneplus or Realme or Onida or TCL or whatever else.

Unless, you want Hisense U7K 55" for its HDR capabilities & 120Hz, then prebook now & buy it when it releases.

That is a great suggestion that model LG is my favourite but I was just not looking at it because it was out of my budget, but tell me one thing this TV has 60 Hz versus some of the Hi-Sense and VU which has 120 Hz panel. Does it make any difference in the refresh rate in a TV? I can understand it in a gaming monitor or a normal monitor but does refresh rate play a role in TV. If yes, how much of that is a dealbreaker of not having 120 Hz refresh rate?

If you plan to game, 120Hz is good. Else, not useful as you barely get 60fps videos, most are 24fps or 30fps.

For your budget, no - its not a priority. For non-gamers, LG A2 48" at 60k will be better than anything else at that price. Even for 60fps gaming you can make a case for LG A2 as consoles run very few games at 120fps & you need a powerful PC for 4K 120fps (at which point your budget will be higher).

U7K's FALD zones are great for HDR content, but if fine with 48" size, A2 is better in that regard for a bit more money. I'm expecting LG A2 48" at 60k, not final price.

If you want to stick to 40k, just get a Vu, Hisense or Redmi's basic 4K 55" for close to 30k. LG & Samsung's entry level TV should cost 40k for 55".

Check deals on 7th.

It is 120Hz for consoles & 144Hz on PC. 240Hz is a lie, Hisense started lying recently. They are marketing new 60Hz TVs as 120Hz.

Hisense will not have as good of a software processing as big 3, so they rely on better hardware for the money. As I said earlier, if LG A2 48" drops to 60k, that's better as it is OLED. Hisense U7K has 240 FALD zones, LG OLEDs have 3840*2160 zones.

Check rtings.com for its review, but they reviewed the 65" variant.

I don't trust reviewers much unless they back their claims with data like rtings.com (I don't know any Indian Youtuber who has anything more than a brightness measuring tool).

Anyways, TCL usually doesn't bring their good TVs to India. Hence I didn't list them. I will put TCL in brands to avoid in India.

Discussion went from normal 4k tv to 240Hz TV.

Don't get overwhelmed by these stats. Stick to your budget. At max extend it by 10k if you find a really good deal.

LG Samsung Vu Hisense, keep models from these brands shortlisted and order it asap on the upcoming sale day.

60Hz is fine for day to day tv shows and YouTube. If you aren't used to 120hz or above, you are not missing out anything. Higher specs comes with higher price so look only for best picture quality in your budget.

Yes, I checked out one model in Samsung which is the UC series but it is from 2021. From the current year TV available, I have kind of got stuck on the Hi-Sense U7K hoping that the price of it will fall in the Amazon sale, but doesn’t look like so, and so I am clueless which other TV should I be looking at as I do not have any other else on my shortlisted list and hence I was asking in VU which model should I be looking at? but even in GloLED there are various models available right so which exact model in GLoLED ?

But between VU GloLED and Hi-Sense U6K and Samsung UA55CU8000 which would be a better price in terms of everything Display Quality, Modern Features etc...

Both VU and Hisense are better than Samsung hardware wise. But you need to watch some content on TV, like TV shows, sports to really decide which TV offers best picture quality. Vu and Hisense are brighter than Samsung but you need also compare how is content smoothing. You really need to watch personally in showrooms to decide this. While in showroom, just check LG model also in your budget.
Sorry, I don't have deep insight on the current lineups so I can only help this way to decide which TV to buy. You need to finalize after checking online technical and user reviews and get a demo in TV showrooms.

Go for latest model in your budget after checking online reviews. If model have any well known issue then you will find many similar complaints, so avoid that model.

There are no noticeable differences between 2022 & 2023 models, so just get newer one as it is the same price. If newer one was 3k higher than 2022 model, I would have recommended the cheaper 2022 model without a second thought. I think its a VA panel, but doesn't matter much for a budget TV.

Heard it is good, a more expensive variant might have that included. I think LG's cheapest 3 TVs have the same panel, so I usually recommend the cheapest one, usually lacks magic remote.

Hisense U6K in India is vastly inferior to U6K reviewed by rtings.com. Based on my research, difference between U6K & A6K won't be noticeable, hence I bought 43" A6K for my flatmate instead of U6K. I'll recommend you to save money with 55" A6K as well over U6K.

Also, Dolby vision certification doesn't matter. Samsung's high end TVs don't have it but will still look better than competing Hisense/TCL TVs with DV certification. DV videos fall back to normal HDR10 if DV certification is not present.

It is the same honestly, if you are just going to use it for watching videos. LG should have better image processing, this helps it counter the sheer hardware specs that the Chinese offers.

So, as I said, your call on brand value vs saving money. I am assuming this is your first 55" 4K TV, so both of them will be a major upgrade from whatever you used earlier. Just take a call soon before prices rise or stuff goes OOS

Got busy with other things in life so buying TV is still pending.

By the way very recently had my eyes on the LG UR8050 TV I thought it was good option in the 50K budget

But recently also saw the first ever demo of the Hi-Sense U6K which you had suggested initially. Frankly don't know what to say yes the colours look more saturated and vibrant but tell me all the AI enhancement that it applies to people skin and all, in Reality do people look that way ? and is that a realistic colour ?

I am kind of confused yes the Hi-Sense U6K does look more vibrant because of the Saturated Colours but I don't know If at all it will it be an overall good watching and. Viewing experience, as it applies a lot of AI to colour and texture of people's skin.

What would you suggest between LG UR8050 vs Hi-Sense U6K ?

I think 2-3 cheapest LG TVs use the same panel. IMO buy the cheapest LG 4K 55" at just above 40k, it will be a big upgrade for most people coming from an inferior TV.

IMO no point for you to spend more. Can buy the cheapest Samsung if you want. Sony X74K 55" is 50k or so, will be bit better but, for you even the old notoriously low brightness Xiaomi TVs will feel like a big upgrade. So just get the cheapest LG or Samsung TV.
www.amazon.in/LG-inches-Ultra-Smart-55UR7500PSC/dp/B0C83J8YF8

Hisense U6K - not much reviews, so can't say if it will in fact be better than A6K. My flatmate bought 43" 4K A6K for under 20k 1 month ago, is good for the price. I doubt I recommended U6K earlier.

TVs were cheaper 1 month ago during the main sale, now all TVs have got a 3-5k price hike in this price segment.

As I said, the bottom 2-3 models use same panel. Smaller bezels, presence of magic remote & not sure what else is what separates them. UR7500 is inferior in product stack to UR8050, but I don't think latter has a superior panel. So won't get my recommendation. X74K at 50k or so has better reviews over budget LG & Samsung panels, hence I recommended that instead.

Again repeating, I looked into U6K, saw no reason to buy it, saved money with A6K for my flatmate. I mean, I use that TV as well, so paying 2-3k extra for U6K is no big deal for us, but I saw no reason to do that. If space wasn't a constraint, we would have bought 55" A6K for under 30k on sale.

Yes, A6K is fine. My friend has the base Vu 4K 43", it is similar, just that Vu had better speakers.

Yes, I will recommend X74K over UR8050 for 50k budget. But my primary recommendation will remain the base LG or Samsung model. Sony is known for its colour tuning. If possible check X74K vs UR8050 in showroom, take your content to play on both TVs. Control settings like vivid mode, brightness, etc as much as possible.

Again, even Hisense A6K 55" will be a big upgrade for you. Get a 5k soundbar with woofer (TV speakers have its limits) along with it for a great experience overall at 35k. Get Hisense only if you have their service centre in your city.

After sales is indeed a concern of brands which aren't LG, Samsung or Sony. That's why my first recommendation has been base LG or Samsung 4K 55" model around 40k for OP. Can recommend same to you as well.

If you are in a Tier 1 city, can take risk & buy Vu/Hisense/Xiaomi, etc. 1 month back you were getting 3 years of manufacturer warranty on that model though. Price is good.

That's grossly overpriced any way you look at it, unless it is 65".

I keep motion smoothening to minimum (not called minimum) or off. Others are default on A6K we have.

It is a little superior than A6K as the U6K offers Local Array Dinning giving more deeper Blacks. And it is a 2023 model.

What according to you should have been the good price to pick up the U6K ?

I did mention sometime earlier that U6K found on EU/US that is reviewed by rtings.com is not the one sold in India, Indian 55" U6K claims 32 zones vs 120 zones claimed in rtings.com. Hence I recommended A6K instead or cheap Samsung/LG models or Sony X74K.

Do a FALD test, to see those zones:
www.youtube.com/watch?v=3So8OFdqcdA
Like for my monitor I can't see any light zones turning on/off. On OLEDs as well you won't see any zones turning on/off because each pixel is a light source there (perfect panel). But in cheap TVs with say 32 zones, etc, you can see the zone transition with visible light trails.

Anyways, enjoy your purchase. As I mentioned, even a 55" A6K will feel like a big improvement to you, so U6K will definitely be a huge improvement.

I don't like the soap opera effect that motion smoothening results in, hence I keep it off usually or low (put it at low for Panasonic 4K TV with my parents, off for flatmate's A6K). Experiment yourself & see. Bigger brands handle motion smoothening much better. I checked a friend's LG G3 last weekend, he had motion smoothening on & the cricket match on Sunday did look great on it even though I hate it on other TVs which are usually cheaper (it is LG's flagship TV, so obviously its great).

I am also looking to buy a TV of size 50 inch. Was inclined towards Hisense TVs but have heard / read online on various reviews on amazon & flipkart that the TV starts giving problems sooner than expected & warranty is of no use as company service people don't visit or pay much attention.

Please give your reviews on it. How are other brand services like VU or toshiba. I am living in Delhi.

I think all 3 of them use the panel made by Hisense, not 100% sure about Toshiba but Vu was indeed using Hisense panels some time back.

Acer monitors are not same as Acer TVs. Acer just gave their naming license to someone to make TV using their brand name, that's all.

Never trust MRP of electronics.

Buy a 55" 4K TV from Samsung or LG for 40k with all offers, it is enough for most. Sony X74L has a bit better picture quality for 48k or so. Beyond that, spend 1L+ for OLED to get a noticeably better picture quality.

If Hisense is making most of the panels then Hisense TVs should be cheaper but that is not the case as other brands like VU or Acer or TCL are offering their TVs at almost the same cost as hisense.

What about LG or Sony or Samsung, are they making their own panels ? And why do there is so much difference between a Sony and Hisense TVs if they are both using VA panel ?

How do we differentiate which panels will last longer than the other brands .....?

Normal brand like Hisense & alike TVs cost around 30k whereas Sony tv suggested is nearly 50k. Does the price difference justifies the quality as if Hisense TV lasts for nearly 5-6 years & its panel dies after that, we can still buy new TV from the remaining amount.......?

I hope you understand what I mean....

1. Price gauging

2. LG & Samsung makes their own panels, not sure of Sony. I'm sure that Sony buys OLED panels from Samsung & LG though, not sure of LCD. Panel is just 1 part of the cost, there are other stuff in a bigger company which inflates cost like marketing, higher dealer margins, etc.

3. You can't, kind of pure luck

4. Valid point but Sony X74L will have better picture quality than a cheap 30k TV & it will be a bit noticeable. Sony's software post processing is considered better than even Samsung & LG. It depends on the buyer if that is worth the extra cost as a 55" Hisense 4K is definitely a big upgrade to most people who buy it.

What is your take on Hisense or alike TVs on which (selected by experts for picture quality) many experts have selected them for their picture quality like vineet malhotra on youtube (as suggested) but none of them tells about the life span of these TVs.

I am only concerned about the service & lifespan as have read in many reviews of hisense and acer that their screen did'nt worked well within first 6 months and the company was not giving proper service even in bigger cities.

As I am not tech savy and will only be seeing the TV for 2-3 hrs in a day, So the main thing which I would ask is :

1. Please give ranking based on lifespan of TVs out of : Hisense, TCL, Acer, Xiaomi (Mi - Are both different ?) and Toshiba.

2. Please give ranking based on service in DELHI of TVs out of : Hisense, TCL, Acer, Xiaomi (Mi - Are both different ?) and Toshiba.

Suggest 1 model each of top 3 brands in budget of 30-35k

I will be obliged.

How do you expect a reviewer to give accurate info on lifespan?

1. Impossible task - by the time you collect data, those TVs are obsolete

2. All should be similar, but Vu & Xiaomi should be better than smaller brands.

Read my previous comments. Get big screen if you can. Just buy Samsung or LG 55" 4K for 40k & be done with it.

Reviewer donot give accurate info on the lifespan but individuals or senior members like you can certainly give this info. But if they are a genuine reviewer, then why not....

Heard that the quality of brightness deteriorates with time of budget TVs, is it true ?

THe new TVs by VU Vibe are coming up just 15-25% down the TVs of LG, why the difference shrinking....?

VU Tvs have only 1 year warranty ? Which TV has better warranty & quality as hisense has 3 years but they don't honour it.

Any other ?

Don't run TV on Full Brightness. Keep it below 70%. It will generate less heat and low chances of screen burn-in.

If you have warranty on your mind, Stick with brands like LG, Sony for your peace of mind.

THanks for the info.

As my earlier LG 6780 had given trouble (its one LED got fused) just after the ending of 2 years which I had to get repaired from outside but its panel is working. My Panasonic LED got trouble in speakers in first 10 months and they were replaced by the company. My panasonic plasma 42 inch panel is still working but its circuit board was replaced twice after warranty of 2 years.

But yes I think that the panel should not die before 5 years, this is the only main concern.

So If we don't consider warranty then which one is better considering the Value for money model ?

I would have gone with VU as they have good service here in my area.

Gone are the days electronics like TV would work for more than 10 years, tbh just be happy it doesn't go kapoot in first 3 years.

Would'nt the premium once LG or Sony last longer than VU or Hisense ?

What warranty do VU gives ?

one hack to negotiate is to ask them to price match. Show them the price on amazon and tell them, if you match then I will buy from you.

This has saved a LOT of money for me, buying appliances. Some might not agree but do try.

I visited the LG shoppee but they were also selling @ 41000 + cashback via card.

Recently Amazon has launched its scheme wherein if you buy any product from they via CC for more than 50k, you get discount of Rs.3250/-.

How is this time to buy this TV from amazon and any idea what % they charge as interest and how do they earn from such schemes?

Lastly, Xiaomi X Pro QLED 55-inch is also for sale online but it is quoting @ 46000 currently. But why even being a budget category TV, is it quoting so high, pls tell.....

QLED is slightly better over normal IPS or VA panel, has some extra filter to boost colours. But it is not a night & day difference & say a well calibrated TV like Sony X74L might look better than Chinese QLED.

Even I don't know

Heck even something like X82L or so just has a slightly brighter panel, marketing material will say otherwise for sure but a brighter panel is the only hardware upgrade you get. IMO not worth it at all.

Under specs Picture Processing, it says
Motionflow™ XR 100 (Native 50 Hz) for x74
Motionflow™ XR 200 (Native 50 Hz) for x75

i don't think you will find any difference visibly. Buy X75 if the price difference is 1k-2k INR or save the money to spend on other accessories like FireTV, speakers etc.
