I want to upgrade my machine and the main purpose will be 3D design and rendering and Also latest game play with full features on.
i can invest around 40000-50000 on this.

Things i want to buy are:
a Motherboard (with wifi)
Processor (quad core or core 2)
Ram (preferable 4GB or more)
Graphic card ( 512MB or 2 Sli)
cabinet and smps

can some one suggest me a good combination.

i will also buy a Monitor if possible. I have a 17" Samsung TFT which i can sell and buy a 19" or 22" Dell or samsung monitor... Please also suggest on that

4 GB Ram = 4000 ,say
A Wifi Mobo = Asus P5K Deluxe Wi FI = 13000
Total = 47000

Are u sure i can get the Corsair ram that cheap.. i heard 4gb of that will cost me around 12000...

also will 460w smps be sufficient... i will be having 3 hdd 1dvd writer running (might be one extra fan)

460w smps may not be enuf for that config.
Get atleast 500W.
And corsair rams are available for that price. There are modules which are even more expensive

I have 1 sata hdd, 2 normal HDD and one DVD writer... as i read the motherboard specifications i can use only DVD and one writer and 6 sata hdds... i think there is only one IDE slot ( i think i named it right)

Thats not high end ram,its a high-mid end.+ u really not spend 6k on a cabinet if it doesnt matter.Cooler master cabby + PSU 460W = 5.5k max
and
P5K DLX Wi-Fi costs 13k not 10.5k

How many NON SATA HDD can i use on this Mobo...

most of the new mobos support only upto 2 pata/ide devices, but if u want to use more then 2 ide devices then use ide to usb converter.

bad luck for me... is there no option
N
Feb 21, 2008 at 5:22 PM
not a thing above 10k has 2 IDE Slots

i once had P5N E SLi - it had 2 although i'd never recommend that board--big stability issues

Consider my idea of getting a IP 35 PRO without Wi-Fi and get a wifi router or stick with what i told u earlier..none of this will solve ur PATA problem though--the best solution is a SATA writer.

u can always use ur dvd writer as an external dvd writers by connecting it thru usb.

Abit IP35-Pro or Abit IX38-Quad GT
N
Feb 22, 2008 at 9:22 AM
Abit IP35 Pro would be better than IX Quad bcoz of its VFM and becoz u are not an extreme overclocker :)

Feb 22, 2008 at 10:22 AM
i liked Abit IP35 Pro ... but any other option with SLI featurre as i want to upgrade to 2 Graphic card in future
N
Feb 22, 2008 at 10:27 AM
in that case just 3 boards--XFX 680i LT SLi (very good for u~10k) ,Asus P5N 32E SLi or XFX 680i (both for same price~13k)

Why do u only want sli?? u can think of crossfire also. Ati has released the HD3XXX series which is more VFM than NVIDIA cards.
About motherboards, I dont think the mobos mentioned above will support 45 nm proccys from Intel. A bios update may do the trick but please be sure before buying. Then ur motherboard will be future proof.
U may even think of Spider Platform with Phenom processor + X38 chipset + HD3XXX series vga.
It has been proved already that X38/P35 chipset is far better than NVIDIA 780I Sli chipset.
N
Feb 22, 2008 at 10:44 AM
dude these boards are Penryn Ready and BIOS update is not a trick! its just an update and nothing more.even X48s require bios updates. + he needs to wrk on 3d so its better that he gets a Q6600

Feb 22, 2008 at 10:56 AM
Ok the boards are Penryn ready.
Spider platform can increase 30% performance.
Even in X38 chipset boards, there are two TRUE 16X PCI-E 2.0 slots for crossfire. Hence, Crossfire can be a better option than SLI.
N

SPider platform can increase upto 30% performance when comared to a non SPider AMD config

i am still confused...

which motherboard to go for...

what is better
Core 2 Duo3.0 GHzE6850-(4MB L2 cache 3.0Ghz 1333MHz)
Core 2 Duo2.66 GHzE8200-(6MB L2 cache 2.66Ghz 1333MHz)

Quad Core Q67002.66GHzQ6700 - (8MB L2 cache 2.4Ghz 1066MHz

and can i install 4X2GB ram in the motherboard

with 8gb ram u'll need to run 64 bit OS.you should consider crossfire . but i think its better to upgrade more frequently than sliing or x-firing .

forget core 2 duo.
Q6600 is still the leader as far as Price-performance ratio is concerned
If u r gonna use 4/8gb ram buy Asus P5N32-E-SLi for 12k

how is

P5K Dlx Wi-Fi and P5K3 DLX/WIFI and P5K Premium Wi-Fi

N
Feb 25, 2008 at 11:02 AM
none of them has Sli
P5K3 DLX is good for the end of this yr-not now because 2gb OCZ DDr3 1066 (thats the lowest u can get and this ram is not high end) costs 8000 bucks

and btw i don't think any board has been tested to run 8gb value ram

Also i found a better board- MSI P7N Sli Platinum @ 9.5k

ok just tell me if i get a 512 8800gt now how long do u expect i will need to upgrade that... and how many games supports SLI for now...
N
Feb 25, 2008 at 11:19 AM
i'd say 2 yrs for MSI 8800GT OC but don't expect it to run games at very high settings after a yr and 2-3 months
H
hellgate #38
Feb 25, 2008 at 11:19 AM
it all depends on at wat resolution u plan to game and at wat settings.if u plan to game @ high res and high settings dont expect the 8800GT 512MB to last more than 13-14 months from now on.
also not many games scale well with SLi and Crossfire,so better get a good 9 series card when they hit the market.
ajayashish
Feb 25, 2008 at 11:30 AM
i think a 9 series is already out but as far i read it is under rated than 8800GT
N
Feb 25, 2008 at 11:35 AM
^ yes its not as good as 8800Gt so u should get 8800 and for sure prices will fall in future so u can setup a 8800GT Sli which will be awesome

ok... i have decided to get my machine in 2nd week of march... finally i am willing to get Q6600, 8gb (4 * 2 gb DDR2 Ram from Corsiar), cooler master cabinet and smps (500w).. just am confused with the graphic card and motherboard...

8gb ram *gigasmilies.googlepages.com/4.gif*gigasmilies.googlepages.com/4.gif if its Corsair value ram its better to get a decent kit of 4gb than 8gb coz what matters more is latency and speed.*gigasmilies.googlepages.com/105.gif
GFX Card- MSI 8800GT OC definitely *gigasmilies.googlepages.com/113.gif

Motherboard-How much u want to spend ?

Feb 25, 2008 at 11:57 AM
i have a total budget of around 40 50k for ram... mobo.. processor.. cabinet and agp... if it demand more i can give that... but i need a good machine for 3d... and also which will serve me for atleast for 2-3 yrs...

for ram... i saw 1066mhz ram are way too expensive so thought of 800 mhz 8gb
N
Feb 25, 2008 at 12:35 PM
nw my knowledge of animation is limited and afaik rendering depends more on GPU speed and processor and it does not consume 8gb ram.4gb ram will be enough if its a good one.and u will be able to overclock it to 1000mhz easily .i've got 4 GSkill FS 6400 *www.gskill.com/en/f2-6400phu2-hz.html (cost=14000 for 4 gb) running at 1100mhz and even 2gb of that ram is faster than 4gb kingston value 800 -- i have personal experience with it.
