The built-in file/folder search in Windows 7 seems quite inconvenient to me! I feel search in XP was much better user friendly.
Has anyone tried any third party alternatives? I would like to opt for one preferably freeware. Pl. suggest. Thx.

I can name to two. Let me know which one works best for you :

Everything Search Engine - Everything

MasterSeeker - Incredibly Fast File Search Engine! Download Now! - Master Seeker

Instant File Find - Easy to use desktop search tool
Ava Find Home Page -- Find Instantly is old.

Tried a few and 'Everything' is certainly quite useful. Thx.

+1 to 'Everything' suggested by topgear

" Everything " works fine for me.

Never needed to use anything other than Everything, as already suggested by folks above.

My cousin wrote a dedicated article about the little nifty tool in his blog.

Is Everything available for Ubuntu ?

I don't think so. But the combination of which, whereis and locate commands is more than enough to find anything in ubuntu.
