Please suggest some gift ideas for a friend's b'day. She is my best friend so I will make something personalised for sure, but stuff apart from that is where I am confused.

Stuff to be excluded:
A watch
College bag
Earphones

Stuff that can't be bought at all:
Handbags
Stupid girly shoes etc...
anything that is overtly girly

Budget: 3k (can go upto 5k)

Help! yelp!

Thanks for the suggestions guys:
Well I forgot to mention the common things I get every year,

A greeting card
A stuffed toy
Chocolates

These are default gift I buy anyways.

No money for an iPod. :( Can't buy photo frame. Hostel rules!

@sujay: that's a nice one. Will look into it.

Ubislate is resistive or else would have made a decent gift.

Shuffle is good but she listens to songs on her phone and I already gave her a CX180 to enjoy better quality music.

My girlfriend suggests me to buy her a guitar
She also suggested me that "nemo" kinda fish :? worth it? I have only ever eaten fish, never kept them as pets. Especially such an expensive one

Some ideas in my head:

It's empty. Shame on me.

@shivam: We will most likely be celebrating at my place so the day is by default a holiday for us all

Does anyone know of any novels that are like Harry Potter, Twilight and some similar fantasy stories? Except narnia

Make her a personalised bracelet or necklace with all the memories as lockets. eg: guitar, bottles, stars, book (small things hanging on the bracelet or chain/necklace at equidistance). in ur budget u can manage to get it done in silver.

Make her a handmade cake. Nothing materialistic works better than a concern. :)

Make her a greeting card on your own. No matter how shabby it ends up, she will greatly appreciate your gesture and will treasure it.

Or take her to a store and buy her a dress, or even a saree of her choice. Girls dont look at the objects that you give them but only at how much effort you put into getting/making her a gift. So anything that will make her feel special will be appreciated by her.

You are right. But I love my friend. Don't want to kill with my cake baking skills :p
Will order some doreamon or dora cake.

Like I mentioned before, the above ones are default every year. Like every year I want to give her something useful.

Dress? Not too sure. Saree? She'll kill me. A little tomboyish; saree's are a strict no-no

Photoframe?
dropped already. mentioned above, Hostel rules don't allow that.

....

Thanks for so many suggestions. As you can see, I make such lame threads 'coz I have never gifted anyone before. Highly inexperienced. So I'm a little lost.

She'd kill me instantly. Having a game freak as a friend is one thing, being gifted some lame game is taking it too far.

She only likes iOS type of games. I wish I could buy her an iPod but it's a little too expensive :(
