yes you can jailbreak yourself but the unlocking solution for iphone 3g isn't available yet but it will be soon.

1. iphones produced.
2. hacks introduced
2. iphones hacked
3. firmware updates released
4. firmware installed
5. hacks no longer work

and it repeats.

iphones in India are awaiting hacks and that is out of scope of this forum.

What exactly is jailbreak ? isn't it similar to unlocking ?

jail breaking is u can use third party software and unlocking is using any sim card u like
