hi friends,

I have some antivirus files downloaded on my office PC which I copied and took home but when I am trying to access / install these applications, it is showing error saying" Windows cannot access the specified device, path or file. You may not have appropriate permission to access the item".

But I am able to use the video files which are avlb on that pen drive.

Please tell where is the error. I am using windows 10 at both PCs.

Either the pendrive is corrupted or your pc is already infected.

Either the pendrive is corrupted or your pc is already infected.

My pen drive is working fine in other PC.

I installed bitdefender, avast & anti malware bytes at different times and none were able to find any malware or virus.

Then your office pc is infected. This usually happens when there is either data corruption or malware infection. Are you saying same setup is getting detected in other pc?

Right click on avast setup file & select properties. Then in properties window, click on digital signatures tab & then click on signature name in the signature list to highlight it & then click on details. It should show digital signature detail is ok.

Meanwhile I scanned the pc with MS defender and found a few viruses and deleted them. But even then the pen drive is not opening.

Format the pen drive, it is most likely infected. I also suggest to format & reinstall windows too.

I had formatted the C drive and reinstalled the Win10 again but again after a week I encountered the same problem again.

Open browser & download some antivirus trial setup file(size doesn't matter, it will work even if it is a few mb web installer). Now leave that file in pc for ~1 hour & then check it by right clicking on it & selecting "properties". Then in new window click on Digital signatures tab. In that tab select & highlight the digital signature name under signature list & then click on "details". It should show "this signature is ok" msg.

why there is a lock icon on every file in the pendrive ?

Are u able to copy the file in your windows PC from pendrive ?

There could be two problems either the account access is limited or the file is corrupted.

Install Malwarebytes trial and do a complete scan of the pendrive and your PC.

Yes I can see and use these files when I am using the pen drive in another computer.

I have already tried with Malwarebytes and bitdefender trial versions and none of these show any virus...

But the files are working in my office and a friend's laptop. There must be some setting in my home PC which is blocking it.

Is your home laptop from HP ?
