Initial reviews are fairly good..
To clear things up
It has a 2mp front cam..
Also, it comes with a SAR compliance certificate which states that it has only 0.416 W/kg which is quite good and very much comparable to samsung phones..
So, is anyone gonna buy this ?

The audio on the device also seem mediocre, as the audio seemed muffled when Bharat put it on the table..

Update: The phone does record at 1080p @ 30 fps.. check this video

This is what they want people to perceive ...

This looks tempting neverthless ....
How many want to give it a +1 ??????????

definitely tempting if everything else like battery life, SAR, service is even decent

^SAR is definitely not bad, it has a SAR compliance of 0.416W/kg which puts it in league with sammy and HTC

The difference in scores in nenamark is probably due to major difference in screen resolution.. A116 has a resolution more than twice the size of Galaxy Grand..
But the scores in Antutu heavily favor A116.. o_O..
If after sales service wasnt a problem and KS would have been released, I think MMX would have finally done it

After sales and support of Indian companies are really pathetic,
That's the main reason we should always keep in mind when buying products from these companies,

But then , its simply unbeatable at its price.

At this price, the phone stands way ahead of it's rival competitors but since the brand value of Micromax isn't that good do they may find some issues in it..Overall it's going to be a tough competitor to Galaxy Grand..Lets wait and watch for the audience response on the same.

Why do all MediaTek based phone lacks a Digital Compass? How many million dollars do MediaTek saves by eliminating such a small feature?

^Very Very true :(.. but the A90S has a digital compass I think.. Too bad MMX didnt include it in this

But then , its simply unbeatable at its price.

Your profile pic matches with what you said lol

sure unbeatable at this price but then again its MMX. unless their service n all stuffs get better, starts manufacturing themselves, it still has hard time to get me inclined towards it. Perhaps mmx is the only cheap brand that nowadays coming close to international standards but i doubt will ever reach at that level.
i can think of getting mmx in 7-8k range but not beyond 10k no matter how good price performance ratio be.

^^ Its Quad Core, so performance is better compared to other mobiles in this category.

What makes me wonder is, how come it is better than SIII in Antutu benchamark?

Antutu is a true weird test, it makes no sense at times, its high time its deleted from the benchmarks suite.

The same thing we thought about Funbook when we bought it, let a few months pass, lets see if it runs fine after a few months of use, Cilus said the same when he purchased a ninja, after a few months he wanted to throw it out of his window :D

Not reviews, but a long term user experience, a 5 min review will find the funbook to be magnificent, but only after a month or so the battery starts to degrade.

its like "try your luck". if at all a defective/cheap piece, problems should crop up in first few months & if it survives the time then its totally worth the cash and should not have any issue for few years. well my friend has been using the first Canvas for about a year and he has not yet faced any major issues.

WTH? Antutu scores for SGS3 shows as 12095 on ThinkDigit website-

On Antutu website SGS3 has a score of 16301 -

Samsung Galaxy SIII Score:16301

And how do two phones with same SoC (Snapdragon S4,Adreno 320) - Nexus 4 (Score 11890) and HTC J Butterfly (Score 20083) - have such a huge difference in Antutu scores?
Moreover HTC J has a 1080p display..

Benchmarks are not everything FOR the last and final time

REAL world performance is what matters.

Can it play 1080p videos smoothly, Live up to the expectaion, get future updates, is the sound quality up to mark?

Sony, Motorola Said Again to Plan MediaTek MT6589-Based Smartphones - Softpedia

If Sony releases any Mediatek based phones, then there is a high probability that they will release their KS as well
theserpent
Feb 16, 2013 at 11:41 AM
But why mediatek?
furious_gamer
Feb 16, 2013 at 11:57 AM
^^ Cheaper phones....!!!!

Otherwise they will charge you the same, 18k+ for Dual Core, if MediaTek, 8k+ dual core, 4" screen, blah, blah.

At the end, it all comes down to price. MediaTek means cheaper phones.

CODES? You mean Source Code or something else?

Yes, the kernel source is the main reason why majourity of Indian android phones can never get Cyanogenmod or any other "genuine" custom rom..
( I mean genuine i.e compiled from source, not some modded framework-res.apk by a "wanna be" noob developer)
MMX and other indian companies, dont bother with releasing these KS, but according to GPLv2 licence, they are entitled to release it as soon as they release a new phone..
If someone finds the source of Mt6589, it is possible to port all features to another phone sharing the same chipset..

sample video

according to this, front cam is capable of 720p video.. still a bit skeptical

That phone is great, never said it was bad, I am just worried about service, and quality as a whole, my earlier Nokia 5800XM is 4yrs and running, how long will the Canvas run?

True that. After buying Funbook, its hard to trust MMX again with any product. When something is too cheap to be true, then there's always a catch. And not to forget the after sales service, its horrible.

Let's see...only time will tell if MMX finally has a winner in its repertoire.

My Nokia 5800XM is 5 years old now. Still running like a champ with 4-5 days straight battery. I can't imagine smartphones of today being that reliable with everyone complaining about their batteries not lasting even a day.

n wen did i point you blaming that:blink:?? i myself cant think of trying anything above 10k unless reliable.

Its sibling, my 5230 3yrs still working nicely. but they used to be very low on specs and power consumption hence more battery. smartphones of today are 10x,20x faster with bigger, brighter displays and only twice the battery capacity, hence less backup.

Have you ever seen the number of useless apps an android device runs? For example in windows, when you close an app, it goes away, not in android no no, keep it running in cache, you can't edit the triggers as well, like when internet connection is activated a bunch of apps are launched by their triggers, give me the ability to edit those triggers.
