Spice S580? 2k.
link please.

and yeah, for all those wondering why I need this, I found someone who is willing to buy my Transcend T-Sonic 610 for around Rs. 1,200. And The mobile store is offering an exchange price on my dad's Samsung X210 for Rs. 900. AND, I am buying my dad a 3100c as a birthday gift. Go figure the rest of the story yourself :p

Thats true for 99% of mobile speakers, but I doubt the problem might presist with earphones.
And yeah, why W270 which is 600 more than W230 but no extra features except flip ???

i know that very well that phone speakers lack bass. Not 99 but 100% . I own N73 ME and need another phone for using another sim. I was asking abt the earphone bass quality not the phone speakers.

@MetalheadGautham

One pointer here => Motorola W230 is actually better than Motorola W270. In W230, you can use mp3's as ringtones BUT interstingly, in W270, you cannot! Strange why priced more?

But you will NOT enjoy music playback in W230 (in comparision to your T.Sonic that is) as it lacks the essential Music player functions like an EQ. :( Also, repleat/shuffle acts buggy on mine. Dunno why...

And Java Programs DO NOT work in W230.
But one thing is that Motorola is also a reputed company and I'd prefer it anyday over Bleu, Spice and even LG. After all they made teh first mobile phone. ;)

The feature-wise better one in this price range is LG KP110 as someone already said. Java + Music/FM.

I bought the W230 only the fact that I could use mp3 ringtones in it.

Hmm... I also have a second option of keeping my mom's 1100 for myself along with T-Sonic 610, IF I don't find a phone thats good enough. (and my mom gets the X210). Do you guys think I should keep that option ? I really need quality thats comparable to my T-Sonic 610. Are there any benchmarks of "portable-music-playback-capable-devices" on the net ?

And about that spice phone, are spice's lifetime/yearly/half-yearly prepaid plans any good ?

+1 to the 1100+Tsonic option

And about the Spice phone, it is just a simple GSM phone. You can use it with any operator.

^^ And what you got to back that up... A damn Yahoo! Answers page... Any fellow who never saw the phone can post such stuff...

Trust me, I only bought W230 because of W270 not supporting mp3 ringtones. You think I never checked it out?

whats the advantage with the 1100 + TSonic option ?

And any reviews of the spice phone ? Should it be unlocked to use with BSNL or airtel or vodafone ?

good cellphone + good music player.
Well, I really am in need of more space. 2GB is too little. I want atleast 4GB for my music hence I was considering a phone.

Is W230 sound quality good enough ? What about Spice ?

W230 or any other phone, even more expensive ones wont support cards greater than 2gb. Even if they cud, it'd be hellish slow. :(
MetalheadGautham
Nov 8, 2008 at 9:06 AM
What about using two cards at a time ?
One of my friends has a phone (dunno model no) for which he purchased a casing for Rs. 20.
In the casing, there is a tiny pouch to store two extra memory cards.

I am thinking of getting something similar.

i tried using a song, The Trooper - Iron Maiden, as a ring tone.
works perfectly.

^ Thanks. I did not have any 1st hand experience.

@MetalheadBautham.

What I do feel it that, it will need significantly high budget for any mobile phone to parallel the music playing capabilities/ease of use of your T610. In W230 you wont find an equaliser; you wont have the option of using your Philips headphones or any other of your choice. Unless you buy a converter or so. And I feel that will be cumbersome.
And using 2 cards; are you comfortable with that? I'd not want carrying a card, outside my device; wven if we have a casing that has all those pouches.

Ok then. Guess I should just delete some less played songs to make space for better ones.

But I am still intrested in that Spice phone because its just 2K, and I feel its worth spending 1K extra after selling the x210 to get a phone like that. What do you guys say ? Is the music player and torchlight worth the price ?

^ Is 2GB of music less for you? What bitrate do your songs have? 320 kbps?
At 128 kbps; you can accomodate 400 mp3's which is one fourth of my current collection. For a small portable music player, 400 songs are good enough. And 128 kbps aint bad either.

I mean, seriously, if you are not going for 10-day long vacations every 2 months, then 2GB ought to enough for you. Don't be greedy; one never listens all the songs everyday.. :p
MetalheadGautham
Nov 9, 2008 at 12:20 PM
Well, I listen to songs all the time. And I have 128kbps songs, but thats often the upper limit. Many are 32kbps, 64kbps, 112kbps and some even 24kbps.

I have no other choice. Plus, I use uber high end encoders to convert from flac, not cheap-ass fraunhofer-mp3 transcodes from other mp3 files. ;-)

whatever dude. At 24kbps using high end encoder is like using 97 Octane petrol in a 65cc vehicle

Depends. Serious metal requires high bitrate, but low end stuff like rap and bolly can do with 24kbps without sounding bad due to existance of less complex sounds.

But yeah, 2GB is still too little for me. I have 90% of my stuff around 128KBPS you know... ;-)

i hav 90% stuff @ 224-320kbps variable bitrate:rolleyes: and 2GB is fine for me . each song comes to abt 7-10MB and 200+ songs are more dan enough :p

Nov 15, 2008 at 7:14 AM
224-320 ? Then you must have really tiny ~4min-5min songs :p
The stuff I listen to are between 7 minutes and 11 minutes long.
