Civilization V: Gods and Kings

Hi,

I am surprised noone opened a thread for this awesome game. My cousin wants to buy it. He does not have the civilization V, the initial game. My only question here is whether for playing this expansion, the original Civ 5 is required?

Flipkart is selling this for Rs. 639.
