I have been getting messages popping up (now on a constant basis) warning of avast "a DCOM attack exploit at various IP adresses"

I run Spybot and perform test. Everytime it scans , DCom Exploit threat is found (4entries.) After fixing the problem, when i run spybot it agin detects the threat.

Suddenly internet speed have dropped, and sometime it does not response.

Avast's NetworkShield detects the worm attacks like Sasser, Blaster (which are common these days!) and blocks it, and everytime it blocks, it gives you a message, that it has detected an attack.
But this NetworkShield is not a full fledged Firewall, but it only blocks worms. This means that you have to install a good firewall. If you have a firewall, then it will silently block ALL the attacks, hence Avast will not find anything.
You can install ZoneAlarm Free Version after disabling the Windows SP2 Firewall. ZoneAlarm is one of the best Firewall, you can have.

Also, update Avast, and scan your System, to make sure that no worms are present in your system!

Apply this patch and check for the warning. I suggest you to install ZoneAlarm Firewall.

4 entiries in the systeme registry; They are:

DSO Exploit: Data source object exploit
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-18\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\0\1004!=W=3

DSO Exploit: Data source object exploit
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-1123561945-823518204-839522115-1004\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\0\1004!=W=3

DSO Exploit: Data source object exploit
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-19\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\0\1004!=W=3

DSO Exploit: Data source object exploit
HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Zones\0\1004!=W=3

I fixed this entries. But when I run the scan again .Spybot shows same threats present.

I have installed the ZoneAlarm Pro trial. Now after installing net connection speed is restored but the zone alarm is frequently alarming me with this msgs.

" The firewall has blocked Internet access to your computer (NetBIOS Name ) from 59.93.161.38 (UDP Port 1029) "

The warning message that ZoneAlarm gives is normal, it's just saying that it has blcoked something. To get rid of this, right-click on the ZoneAlarm icon in System Tray, and click "Restore ZoneAlarm Control Center". Here click "Alerts and Logs" button in the left pane. Then click "Main" tab, and in the "Alert Events Shown" option, select "Off". And close ZoneAlarm.

And, as for SpyBot SnD, it is DSO Exploit. it's a bug in the SpyBot and it has been taken care of in the newer versions, updating the SpyBot SnD would solve the problem.

ZoneAlarm really suck till we buy the product. when uninstalling ZoneAlarm it make most of the software not work properly. If we buy ZoneAlarm then it is the best Firewall of all.

How do I help you.... Ok try this.. this is how i did when I go that DCOM Exploit
If you have a Partion in you HDD then install new OS then Windows SP2 for XP and SP4 for Windows 2000. Then install AVG and AVAST AV software. Connect you internet to update all the WIndows Update and AV Updates. Never go to any crack website nor p2p share if you dont have full version of firewall in your system. After one week of struggling coz of DCOM atlast I tried the above option now I dont have any problem. Altast Scan the other partion with AV and copy the important files new partion and format the Old. This is only solution. I get DCOM Exploit only after installing Kazza Lite I have very much doubt in that software.

@naveen, Download HijackThis and unzip it to dedicated folder (like C:\HijackThisFolder\hijackthis.exe).
Then run it and click the button Do a System scan and save log file. HijackThis will perform a scan and saves the log file as hijackthis.log in the same folder where it is installed and it also opens the file automatically.
Copy the entire contents of the file and post it here.

@naveen, as i suspected, there is a worm in your PC, that was the reason for those alerts. It's RapidBlaster (iexplorer.exe) virus which downloads some baddies to your PC.
There is a removal tool for RapidBlaster, it's better to use it to remove the virus. Download it here. But the same filename (iexplorer.exe) is also used by differet Trojans, so download TrojanHunter, and perform a full system scan.

RapidBlasterKiller will create a log file named "scanlog.txt" in the same folder as "rbkiller.exe" if RapidBlaster is detected, and will notify the user of the file path/location (plus any other actions that took place during optional clean up).
So, also post the log file of RapidBlasterKiller.

After doing the above two things post a new HijackThis log. And have you enabled selective startup in MSCONFIG?, If yes, run msconfig and select the Nomal Startup option before posting a new log.

Go here and run online scans, allow them to delete whatever they find:

*housecall.trendmicro.com/housecall/start_corp.asp
*www3.ca.com/securityadvisor/virusinfo/scan.aspx

Note any thing that can't be fixed
Reboot when done. Rescan with HJT and post a new log here.

Boot in safe mode and run HijackThis. Click "Do a System scan only". Then put a checkmark against these entries:-
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [blah service] IEXPLORER.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunServices: [blah service] IEXPLORER.exe

Then close all other open programs and click "Fix Checked" in HiajckThis.
Exit from HijackThis, and delete this file (Use the "Search" of Windows to locate the file):-
IEXPLORER.exe

Reboot to Normal Mode, and run HijackThis and post a new log. You are using an older version of HijackThis, download latest version, and post it's log.

@swatkat: As you told i installed the newer version of hijackthis, but in safe mode hijack this do not show any iexplorer.exe entries. I dont how it has been removed from there. i followed what stalin advice but the scanner he stated didnt show any infected file.

But in Zonealarm the number instrusion blocked is still increasing inspite it has reached 1836 while 149 of those has been stated as high-rated.

I have also deleted the IExplorer.exe file which was found under spybot folder.

But now also i dont think my pc is fully cleaned there some worm present.
Please tell how i can stop this intrusions.

Log looks clean. And the the number of intrusion prvention shown by ZA is normal, there will be many Port scanning or Worm intrusion attempts when you are connected to Internet. ZA blocks it all, no need to worry about it. Do you have any problems with Net speed or Avast?
N
May 10, 2005 at 9:29 PM
No. The Net Speed is fine. Avast is also not showing any warnings.

I am only worried about this zone alarm blocks Becoz of this I disable my Lan that connects my another pc which is free of worm but uses the net connection from this computer. Can i enable it now.

ZA is showing the number of intrusion attempts that it has blocked, this does not mean that your PC is infected. You can enable the LAN.
