Hi,

My old pc component is dead due to "shorting" as confirmed by local mechanics. i had problem like first my monitor getting switched off with 5-10 minute of booting then after 2-3 days whole cabinet refused to start although motherboard has light on. Local mechanic is saying its not repairable. old component are gigabyte ga h97m d3h and core i7 4790k.

so i am in search of CPU Mobo and RAM primarily and then if monitor also get damaged then monitor too

1. What is the purpose of the computer? What all applications and games are you going to run? (Be exact. Which games? Which applications? Avoid the word 'et cetera.' Vague answers like 'gaming' or 'office work' will not work.)
Ans: Gaming, net browsing pc, movies and youtube. FPS games mostly. high settings, 1080 resolution.

2. What is your overall budget? If you can extend a bit for a more balanced configuration, then please mention.
Ans: 1lakh. can extend like 10k more

3. Planning to overclock?
Ans: No

4. Which Operating System are you planning to use?
Ans: Windows 11/10

5. How much hard drive / solid-state drive space is needed?
Ans: already Have 1x 240 gb SSD and 3x 2TB HDDs)

6. Do you want to buy a monitor? If yes, please mention the screen size and resolution you prefer. If you already have a monitor and want to reuse it, then do mention the screen size and resolution of the monitor you have.
Ans: 24 or 27" Monitor, for gaming, full HD or 4k with 240hz. i have selected LG Ultragear Full HD IPS (27 inch / 68.5 cm) 240 Hz Nvidia G-Sync Compatible, FreeSync Premium, HDR 10, HDMI, USB, Tilt, Height, Pivot Gaming Monitor (‎27GP750-B). suggestion are welcome if better monitor is advisable

7. Which components you DON'T want to buy? i.e. which components you already have and plan on reusing?
Ans: plan to reuse
PSU - corsair CX650M
GPU- Asus Strix GTX 970 DC2OC
Cabinet - Cooler master (i dont remember the models)
Existing Dell monitor

8. When are you planning to buy the system?
Ans: One week

9. Have you ever built a desktop before? Or, will this be done by an assembler?
Ans: Assembler.

10. Where do you live? Are you buying locally? Are you open to buying stuff from online shops if you don't get locally?
Ans: Delhi, Buying locally. open for buying online if there is significant price difference.

11. Anything else which you would like to say?
Ans:
I have selected the following components if possible review them and let me know if i need to upgrade or change them

core i7 12700F
Asus Rog Strix b660-F
G Skill Trident RGB DDR4 (8x2)
(Both Mobo and RAM has RGB lights hence I have selected them apart from their own features)

UPDATE: my monitor is working so i am excluding it from my list

UPDATE-2: As suggested in discussion that i7 12700F need dedicated GPU to boot, i changed my preference to i7 12700 having inbuilt gpu but it's costing approx 5k more.
Although i have gtx970 but it's old so i could be trapped if my GPU failed in future for whatever reason and i didn't have money to buy 3090 immediately at that time then i will be having desktop which is not booting just cause of GPU failure. So is it worth to spend 5k extra now for i7 12700?

Make sure you have sufficient budget for a 1500 VA UPS with surge protection. If your PSU is under warranty, RMA it.

Mention your GPU, exact PSU & cabinet models as well. Intel F CPUs lack iGPU, so PC won't boot w/o dGPU. With high performance components you need a good airflow case.

If you are too much into esports titles like CS GO or R6 or Valo, 240Hz might make sense, else it doesn't. Also, most cabinets support just 2x 3.5" drives these days, might be difficult to find one with 3x 3.5" drives. On second thought, my cabinet does support 3, so can suggest my Lancool II Mesh.

Complete build for 1440p gaming:
CPU - Intel i5 12400 - 17k
Mobo - Gigabyte B660M DS3H WiFi - 12k
RAM - 2x8GB DDR4 3600MHz C18 - 6k
GPU - Asus/MSI/Zotac/Gigabyte RTX 3060Ti - 40k
M.2 SSD - Samsung 980 500GB - 5k
HDD - None
PSU - NZXT C750 80+ Gold - 9k
Cabinet - Lian Li Lancool II Mesh - 8.5k
Total - 121.5k

For esports player, 240Hz would make sense. That LG one should be good but beware, ppi is a bit low on 27" 1080p. Few months back Samsung G7 was 35k - it is a 1440p 240Hz monitor, sadly its 42k now, can be a great choice.

LG 27GN750-B vs Samsung Odyssey G7 LC32G75T Side-by-Side Monitor Comparison

For CS GO GTX 970 should be still good, I think.

@ashishstillthere do you plan on doing any streaming or productivity work in the future? If not, an i5 12600k would be good enough, with no compromises on gaming (heck it would be good for all the above mentioned tasks).
Here's what I'd suggest-
CPU- i5 12600K - 25.5k
Motherboard- MSI Pro B660 A - 13.7k
CPU Cooler- Deepcool AK620- 5.2k
Memory- 2x 8GB 3600Mhz CL18 -6k
SSD- Adata XPG Gammix S70 Blade 1TB Gen4 - 10.5k
Monitor- Samsung Odyssey G7 - 42k.
Total- 103k
What is the exact model of your CoolerMaster cabinet? A picture of it would be better. Also, consider this 1080p 240hz display- *www.amazon.in/Samsung25-Inch-Compa...?keywords=240hz+monitor&qid=1659802368&sr=8-5

Yeah sometime brother do video/photo editing thing in my system so i prefer i7

MSI pro is suggested by you and @omega44-xt and i was looking for Asus Rog 660 one so will compare it further

For ram please suggest brand as i am looking for RGB one so choose gskill

I already have SSD and just update received that monitor is working so i am focusing only on Mobo processor and ram and offcourse some good ups with surge protection

Cabinet sides are transparent like this(not my actual rig pic) so i am considering RGB ram and mother board having RGB light and rest effect will be completed by RGB fans.

Updated: I forgot that you need a CPU cooler, my bad, and upon inspecting SPEC 01, there's a big problem. Your cabinet has a CPU cooler clearance of 150mm, whereas an i7 12700 will need a dual fan tower-style air cooler at least. AK620 will be my top pick, but needs 160mm clearance, NH D15 needs 165mm, cheaper Arctic freezer 34 duo needs 157mm. So maybe look into cabinet upgrade to Lancool II Mesh which I mentioned earlier.

CPU - Intel i7 12700 - 29k (I would prefer having iGPU for troubleshooting & non dGPU days)
Mobo - MSI B660M A Pro WiFi - 15k

GPU - Yours, IMO don't buy 3090 or upcoming 4090, usually poor value, consider 4080 later
M.2 SSD - WD SN770 Gen4 1TB - 10.8k (if plan to edit videos, better get a good SSD as well, on sale now)
HDD - Yours
PSU - Yours, for now, upgrade while buying GPU
Cabinet - Lian Li Lancool II Mesh - 8.5k
Cabinet fan hub - Deepcool Fan Hub FH-04 - 0.5k
Monitor - None for now
Total - 80.3k

Other option:
M.2 SSD - Samsung 980 500GB - 4.4k (on sale now on amazon)

The stock Intel cooler can't keep my i5 12400 cool if it is constantly running at 100% load, drawing 80W power. The cooler is rated at 65W & i7 12700 without limits draw upto 140W, I think.

I'm still using the stock cooler because for gaming my CPU barely crosses 65W, average power draw is lower, so CPU temps are usually 70-80C.

I'm not sure why some Intel 12th gen CPU prices have risen up recently, i7 12700 was 29-30k commonly (not in amazon), now seems 32-33k. Common sites include primeabgb, vedant and mdcomputers.

For gaming, it'll manage, with some throttling. However for productivity, it won't last long. (180w PL2)

The build suggested by omega is good. Wait before spending for the fan hub though. You should be able to daisy chain the fans.

Meh there's nearly a 7k price difference between the 12600k and the 12700. The only difference in the spec sheets are a couple of cores. For gaming, there'll be zero need for it, though it would help a little in productivity. Didn't think it was worth it.

For gaming, sure, the 12400 is the maximum anyone should go with. But with productivity mentioned and the 1L budget, I suggested the 12600k.

With Asrock's poor reputation in making motherboards lately, no, the Pro Rs isn't suggestible. The only decent boards from their lineup are the Steel Legend, Taichi and Extreme, all of which are ironically high end motherboards.
The MSI board is a much better option. You should be able to get it online.

As you can see, Pro RS is literally one of the worst & I'm not sure why it is not throttling the CPU as VRM temps beyond 100C are dangerous in a way. Stick to the top mobos till TUF Plus as India has higher ambient temps.

Good parts selected. Yet there are some changes to be made.
Spec 1 does not have very good airflow. For a low TDP processor its fine, but for the 12700, its gonna reach T Junction (max temperature before throttling, usually around 95 deg C) immediately and throttle, especially when cooled with the stock cooler. Save yourself the trouble and invest in a new case and the Deepcool AK620. You'll have to do it later if not now.

For the memory, well it's a good looking one, but you could consider different memory sticks at cheaper prices, like this one- *www.theitdepot.com/details-Teamgro...y+-+Black+(TF3D416G3600HC18J01)_C6P34456.html

It offers similar levels of performance as the G Skill one. Take your call though.

For how much are you getting Tomahawk? I generally don't recommend it because entry-level Z690 mobos are priced similar, like MSI Z690 A Pro WiFi DDR4 will net you an extra M.2 slot as well, if you don't dive deep into advantages of Z690 vs B660.

Also price for Trident Z Royal? I saw 16GB XPG D60 3600MHz CL18 for 5.5k per stick. If aesthetics are the point for Trident, then understandable.

L240 is one of the worst price to performance coolers I've ever seen. The AK620 is a much better option. When looking for an AIO, RGB is the last thing you'd want in it.

As suggested above, its not worth much waiting for next gen GPUs, with inflation and a weakening ₹ value.
Tomhawk is 21k and spoken to dealer he told me that tomhawk has more points for cabinet RGB lights and ports so if for future as i have plans to upgrade my cabinet then tomhawk is more suitable.

Trident royal is for its look so it's preferred
That's a load of bs. Any board with a 5v ARGB header will handle all sorts of RGB devices. The Tomahawk is a good board, but don't go with it for the reasons suggested by the dealer. There are cheaper alternatives as mentioned in this thread that are good enough for the 12700 and other necessities.

Both have just 2x 3 pin ARGB connectors & you can just get an ARGB hub for more ports.

Unless you are going for aesthetics again, no point of higher-end B660 mobos as a good entry-level Z690 is just the more practical choice. You can add more connectors like ARGB connectors, fan connectors, but can't easily add 4th M.2 slot to B660.

My plan to change cabinet is on hold till i buy myself a new GPU 3080 or 40xx series.

For AIO, just get Arctic Freezer II 240mm, great performer. Do not buy 120mm AIOs, they are almost useless.

Arctic freezers II look good and has RGB too so i think this can be a good choice as it will not have that height wala issue. Let me ask rate and availability tomorrow itself. Thanks for suggesting this.

Dealer sent this and agreed on rgb hub part.

Now i am in fix between 660 n 690. As per this top model of 660 is better than basic of 690 although on specification side i know 690 will be much better in speed wise but i am too naive to understand that details. If for M2 port as of now i am happy with having 3 coz I have only one SSD and have 2 empty slot for future expansion.

Almost all websites which do such direct comparisons are shit. Read the detailed specs for yourselves & check reviews. The common negative for top end B660 mobos has been high price, YT channels like Hardware Unboxed just recommend MSI B660M A Pro, else jump to Z690. Even for a normal user 1-2 extra M.2 slots over B660 mobos is a practical difference.

The Z690 A Pro sustains 75C on VRMs when running an i9, which draws almost 100W more power than an i7 12700. As I mentioned earlier, except aesthetics, I see 0 point in buying Tomahawk B660. Ideally B660M A Pro should suffice, unless you need more M.2 slots(4 vs 2).

then z690 is the one

Final order going to be

Core i7 12700
Msi MAG Z690 tomhawk wifi DDR4
G.SKILL Trident Z Royal 32GB (2 * 16GB) DDR4 3200MHz CL16-18-18-38 1.35V Desktop Memory RAM - F4-3200C16D-32GTRG

Again, overspending on mobo, just pointing out. If you are going for aesthetics, I'll stop pointing out mobo over-expenditure.

Ideally i7 12700 + B660M A Pro is enough, else if you have money get i7 12700K + Z690 A Pro WiFi DDR4. The i7 12700 lacks OC support, so Z690 doesn't make sense unless you need 4x M.2 slots & more expansion slots, which even Z690 A Pro has.

Also, shouldn't cost much more to get 3600MHz CL18 instead, for RAM.

+1 to the above post. Memory is understandable but not the mobo. It costs what, 24k? For that, you could go for the MSI B660 PRO A for 14k and 10k on a 1TB Gen4 SSD, if storage is the main concern here. That would give you plenty of headroom for storage, which avoids the purpose of upgrading in the near future. Or better, spend on a decent cabinet and an external CPU cooler. It's only for gaming and some productivity right? Don't see the point of spending so much for the motherboard.

Got your point regarding Mobo, Yea you both are right regarding Mobo. Thanks a lottt

Changed specification

Core i7 12700
Msi B660 pro
G.SKILL Trident Z Royal 32GB (2 * 16GB) DDR4 3200MHz CL16-18-18-38 1.35V Desktop Memory RAM - F4-3200C16D-32GTRG

Regarding ram, it's kinda good looking for trident royal is for me. I don't need additional SSD or space as already have 250gb for window booting and 6.5 TB space in HDD for storing my games and othe files.

Now for future i will be looking for cabinet, monitor& cpu cooler and then good gpu and power supply.

I was saying to get 3600MHz Trident, unless that is much more expensive than 3200MHz one, usually its barely 1k for 32GB it for 3200 CL16 vs 3600 CL18.

Newer games need SSD, so do look into it when you upgrade GPU.

noted for 3600. will try to get 3600 instead of 3200 today itself as i need system back soon.

Thanks for suggestion and information regarding GPU will keep additional SSD in mind while buying gpu. As of now I have total 6 TB internal storage in HDD (WD Black) and 240gb SSD for window booting. Due to z690 now i have more slots for future upgrade if I required. Thanks a lot for your constant guidance.
