This is proving more difficult than I thought it would be.

I have a 250mb (8hr long ) mp3 file that I want to split into files only 5 minutes long. I have already tried audacity, mp3direct and 2 other paid programs , but none work properly. They split the file alright, but when playing them, their time duration isn't picked up accurately by mediamonkey(or my phones mp3 player) i.e the audio fiel length would be 8 min, but would only show as 5 minutes.

Can someone please recommend a good proper mp3 file splitter ?

Thanks

yes , but it throws some error, when trying to import the mp3 file.

you may try format factory but it'll be a painstaking job as you can't simply cut it into 5min pieces. you'll have to cut it into 5min & then do the whole process again.

well I finally ended up using the latest beta version of audacity which has a method to split files by time as described here: How To Split Long Audio Files Into Multiple Tracks | Product Funnel Formula .
It still takes time via this method. 20 minutes for audacity to load the file and another 20 to export files. But it does them properly...
