Gmail Going Huge: 9000MB+

Reports we’re getting in the mail say that some Gmail users have seen their storage bumped to over 9GB today - 9030MB, to be exact. If not a glitch (and why would it be?), it means Google is playing catch-up with Yahoo, which now provides unlimited storage.

With no other info, we can only assume the accounts are currently being selected at random. As someone who is just about to exceed his Gmail limit, I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

Re: Gmail Going Huge: 9000MB+

Not bad at all. Its about time that the G-guys caught up with Y! Many people prefer gmail anyway though (the people I know, that is. Then again, that can't really be relied upon much...they sometimes just pick random things. Hmm. *talking with myself again*)

Extended inbox capacity. Just perfect. Now, you can store up to hundreds more stupid forward emails, and get to delay mass deleting them for a week longer. Whoopie!

Re: Gmail Going Huge: 9000MB+

You try filling your inbox up with files, and there goes your account at the hands of their TOS. What's the use of so much space then? Even by the time I die, say at 60-65 years, I'd have just filled up around 60% of my mailbox.

Re: Gmail Going Huge: 9000MB+

I have always said that there is no need for so much space. I have only used 350MB of my ~2.9GBs. Its just it would look cool when Ill tell my friends that for some reason Gmail increased my mail limit to 9GB. They will do a Vista WOW.:D

Re: Gmail Going Huge: 9000MB+

I have a Yahoo account with unlimited space. I love it, I never have to bother about deleting all the silly forwards. :p Other than that, I agree, I never found it to be of much use either.

Re: Gmail Going Huge: 9000MB+

Who needs that much space for storing email? Even they know nobody's gonna use it. It's just a marketing gimmick.

I don't care about space. I love Gmail's speed and interface. Still using just 200MB, though all are proper emails. No forwards here.

i think the source is wrong
Btw, i don't need so much space as of now just

Re: Gmail Going Huge: 9000MB+

I have a total of 959 emails and I never even bother checking how much space they consume. Who cares! I'll likely never exceed two gigabytes and even if I do, one terabyte would probably be as commonplace then as a gigabyte is today.

With instant and accurate searching, who gives a **** about a clean inbox anyway! :p

Re: Gmail Going Huge: 9000MB+

Frnds this news is NOT entirely tru
Gmail is NOT increasing space
but the thing is that now we can buy space on google by giving 20$ for 10 gb and that is shared between picasa and gmail
so for us phokat ke users NO change.

If you people haven't noticed it yet, GMail's storage counter has started ticking again now after the pause in April.

GMail's storage counter was not paused for me atleast. Anyways the news that GMails 9000MB space is also wrong. You need to buy the space at a rate of 20$/year.

Re: Gmail Going Huge: 9000MB+

Gmail rocks for the simple reason that they allow POP3 and SMTP access for free and it works without any hiccups. AOL Mail rocks too, but no one uses it in India.

Re: Gmail Going Huge: 9000MB+

Question: Who gets so much mail?
Answer: Microsoft, the president etc ........... basically people who would have custom mail servers running 24X7 neway!

Maybe some small office/ bussinesses will find this useful but for me its a total, complete waste.

Re: Gmail Going Huge: 9000MB+

The News of Google giving 9GB Storage is not wrong. Check the post at mashable.com They have a screenshot and many users commented there to say that they get 9GB now.

And neither this link is wrong: *www.google.com/accounts/ManageStorage

This link is for those who want a single storage access to Gmail+Picasa. Gmail may be 9GB for some but using above link you can buy upto 250GB Space for Gmail and Picasa!!

Google now offers a way to purchase more storage space to use with some Google services (currently Gmail and Picasa Web Albums). This extra storage acts as overflow when you run out of free storage space in either service. If you’ve filled your free storage (2.8 GB and counting for Gmail or 1 GB for Picasa Web Albums), you’ll automatically use your purchased space to store more pictures and messages up to your new storage limit. Your shared storage space will be used by whatever service needs it. Picasa’s free storage is for photos only, and Gmail’s is just for Gmail messages, but the shared storage can be all photos, all messages or a mix of both. You can’t set aside shared storage space for one service - it will be used by any service that’s over its free storage quota on a first-come, first-served basis.
Google Shared Storage Pricing
6 GB $20.00 per year
25 GB $75.00 per year
100 GB $250.00 per year
250 GB $500.00 per year
To purchase more storage, visit *www.google.com/accounts/PurchaseStorage.
To see how much storage you’re using, visit *www.google.com/accounts/ManageStorage.
