OK, so my GPU which I've been using for the past 3 years has suddenly stopped working on my PC.
It doesn't give display and overheats excessively.

I thought the problem was with the GPU itself so I cleaned it thoroughly and tried it on a friend's PC and it worked without any problems, no overheating either.
But when I insert it on my PC the same problem occurs again and it doesn't give display and overheats within a minute.

I haven't tried using another card yet but everything works fine without the graphics card.

So any ideas as to what the specific problem might be?
My PC is a bit old now and I'm considering upgrading but only if its absolutely necessary.

Specs are:
Core 2 Duo E7300
Intel DG31PR
2GB DDR2-SDRAM
XFX Radeon HD5670

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

What is the psu you are using ? Be specific about brand and model ? Did you try any other gfx card within your pc ? Also what's the idle and load temp of the the cpu and HDD ?

My PSU is Coolermaster elite RS400 PSARJ3

My friend doesn't have gfx card so I haven't tried it yet.

Also 1 to 2 months before it stopped working, the PC tend to crash a lot while playing games, giving blank screen while the sound loops for a minute then goes silent with the power sill on.
Sometimes it doesn't give display like now but restarting the PC usually fixed the problem.

Temps for CPU are:
No load - 39C
Under load - 74C

I don't know how to check load temp for HDD, it stays the same at 40C whatever I do.

Check your ram modules with memtest86+.
The software you used to monitor cpu temp ?
What cabinet you are using and how many fans are there ?
The PSU is good enough and HDD temp is also good.

I did the ram check. It passed and didn't find any errors.
I used PC wizard 2013 to check temp and IntelBurnTest to stress the cpu
Cabinet is ordinary with only one fan.
