Buy a Seagate one with perpendicular recording. (7900.10 series if I remember correct) A 160 GB one is likely to cost much less than your budget.

I think it would be your XP problem. Try to reinstall XP SP 2

Installing intel chipset inf files works fine but installing IAA halts the system(windows loading.... the 640*480 screen loading never completes).

@rexx

first of all you dont need IAA for win xp sp2 as xp drivers correctly allocate dma to hdd

second problem could be your bios may not officially support 160 gb pata hdd ie in earlier 845 architecture 160gb hdds were not supported on 845 chipset

third fresh installation of xp
then first install latest chipset softwate from intel website for 845
second install graphics driver latest one
and dont install IAA

i can tell you all this as i have a old msi-845ge and a wd 160gb
