Ubuntu is a UNIX based operating system that is completely free. As in free beer, or air we breathe. You dont have to pay a penny to use it.
It is a bootable .iso image that needs to be downloaded fromits site, burnt onto a CD and then run from it.

Correction: Ubuntu is NOT UNIX-based. It is a UNIX-System like Operating System.
