Re: HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLP...:mad:

well the most common problem that happens is the secondary / primary conflict .... make sure the jumpers are proper .... the lower 1 on the cable is for primary and upper 1 is for secondary

Re: HELLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLLP...:mad:

@ n2casey .... if u hold the cable from the mobo connector (the 1 that u plug to the mobo) .... then the opposite 1 is the secondary connector .... in which case the middle 1 is the primary 1

There are several things involved in this.
1. Drive is not detected in BIOS.
If this is what your issue is? try verifying the jumpers. you can get info in the manual with the drive. Make the drive which you connect in middle of the cable to Cable-Select. you should see CS/CSL/CLS at the back of your drive.
Once the drive is detected in the BIOS then it shud show up in My Computer of the OS. If OS is unable to find your

2. Drive not detected in My Computer but is detected in BIOS.
Use this article ONLY if you are using Windows XP.

Goto registry editor and then locate the following key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
Delete "Upperfilters" and "Lowerfilters" on the right side.

Note: Sometimes you may find either of the keys or both. delete all which ever you find.

modifying registry can be fatal. be careful when trying the solution.

r u sure? Just read again what u have posted.
In such a case the opposite 1 will b the primary connector & the middle 1 is the secondary. Here, more than 50 PCs r running very fine, with opposite 1 as primary connector & the middle 1 as secondary.

@n2casey

40 wire cable: The way technicians have always done it in the past with the 40-wire cable was Master in the Middle connection and Slave on the end. It really didn't matter much until the hard drive makers started making drives with the Cable Select option.
80 wire cable: the Master hard drive or your boot hard drive goes on the END of the cable
..... in short both are right u r talking new and i was talking old school
