The biggest memory tweak is to remove kde and go in for say fluxbox or windo maker.

pradeep, the KDE 3.3 and 3.4 are much better it seems. They have tweaked a lot of components internally. The KDE 3.3 on my system is running on par with other windowmanagers now.. difference is highly visible while using the plastik theme.

I have KDE 3.3 on my gentoo system and it takes 42M of memory to run compare this with fluxbox which takes 5MB of memory. so i still feel that kde is still a heavy desktop and I only use it to impress firsttime linux guys or a windows guy to show "hum kise se cum nahi"

yeah.. but KDE is KDE... and fluxbox will always remain fluxbox.. its list comparing an elephant with an ant !!

try this at your own risk:

In the folder where you copied all the RPMs...

rpm -Uvh --nodeps *.rpm
