Please help me in buying a new cell phone say within 18K..

thats N82

so why have some people in the forum have purhased N79...
which is priced almost equal to N82

N79 is latest and some what improved menu types and appearance

But N82 has powerful hardware ,, the minus of N82 is KEYPAD which is tiny

Hey! i too am planning on a cell in that range and this is what i have found.

Firstly, 5800 has some problems. You can check that out at

You will have to go through quite some pages before you truly understand what the cell(in general) is about.

The 2 other phones at that range would be n82 and n79. There have been lots of discussion as to which is better but if you ask me you cant compare them as such.
n82, though a bit old and bulky, is time tested. n79 is a pretty slim phone when compared to n82 because of advancement in technology.
It is up to you to chose b/w n82 and n79, but a word of caution against n79. Here in Bangalore, India, I have heard of some problems in n79 like freezing and keypad problem. Not everyone has encountered these problems though.

One last piece of information, by the first week of April there will be a price drop in nokia cell phones! :razz:

From my sources, n82's price will drop by 1k to 1.5k(INR)!!! I truly hope that the prices drop since i am planning on n82!

But since you mentioned 'N series' then I would recommend N82.

just called up the Nokia Priority Dealer here in Goa and got the following quotes

N79 = 20,450/-(with Bill of course) kinda expensive.?? :shock:

N82 = "Not available. Nokia has stopped production and launched N85 instead"

Yup 20450 is on expensive side...did u go to Nokia priority dealer or any mobile shop coz Nokia priority dealers r always costlier.

N79 is a bit lighter,smaller & thinner than N82

It seems it also has a better video recording capability
But the N82 has a faster response time

in everything else N82 is either better then N79 or similar.

I forgot to mention it as I have also used it. Few days ago I was in the car with some friends & his music collection sucked. We also didn't have a both sided 3.5mm audio jack for connecting the phone to the car to play the songs so I played the songs & transmitted over Stereo FM which was then playing on the car speaker.

IMO N82 is beast which can handle any task easily unlike N79 which struggles at some points and dats y i chose N82 over N79. If looks matter too much for the buyer then i'd suggest getting 5800xm or some sony ericsson phone coz the difference in the look of N82 and N79 aint that much .

On a sidenote- These days nokia seems to compete with itself only. 5800xm ,e71 , n82 , n95 , n79, n85 , n95 8gb. All are in the price bracket of 17-24k and are very good devices.

N79 has brighter display, better sound quality, FP2, better keypad and FM transmitter. It also comes with two extra colour covers and a remote in headset, as well as a 4 GB memory card.

N82 on the other hand has graphics accelerator and better camera performance. Now you need to decide which one you prefer.

Personally I would just get the 5800 XpressMusic because of the larger, touchscreen display.

Then go for N82 as you are giving more emphasis to camera then the looks & keypad.

Personally I would just get the 5800 XpressMusic because of the larger, touchscreen display.

Krazzy check out the v31. Sound quality is the same. v20 and below seemed to had some bugs which gave lower sound quality mostly noise at certain frequencies, even battery was low.
As for brightness lol hack ur phone.
And for the price difference one get a 4gb heck one can even get 8gb.
As for 5800, i wouldnt recommend it now due to the defects that are surfacing in various sites. Better wait for a few months, most likely old stock would replaced by then.

@jak: n79 & n82 are both good phones, pick anyone and you wont regret.

yep. n82 runs faster than n79.
you can also make n79 run as fast as n82 but you have to turn off the transitions which is a special feature n79's Feature Pack 2. But whats the point of having a cell with FP2 then?

its better off u can use MGMaps with offline maps

Sure then go for N82

N79 is good , but if need camera like Digital CAm then choose N82 & also the power full hardware ... which keeps phones faster

N79 is getting slower installing many application .....

So check with the review completely :!:

In the present scenario very rare phones stay in the market for 3 yrs . I bet N79 will be stopped within an year or two max. But N82 is here to stay.

For example N73 is still in market evn after 3years coz its a super succesfull phone but N78 stopped within a year of release which was meant to substitute N73 .

There is a very tight competition between n82 and n79 and as n82 has a very high user base and very good feedback all over the internet which helps nokia to sell more handsets so its very unlikely that n82 is stopping any soon.
And its a common trend with nokia that if they have two competing handsets in the same price range then they tend to stop production of the newer model .

And frankly speaking, high end phones cant be used for 3yrs generally as the user will feel an urge to upgrade within 2 years.

Even though N82 got the hardware of N95 8GB but still it lacks at some points compared to N95 8GB. If N79 would hav been better than N82 then nokia would hav named it anything between N83 and N89. Just think on it and you will understand.
And the dual core cpu +3D GPU of N82 is enough to kickass N79 when loads of apps r installed and run.
Now its the buyers personal choice what to buy.

Good sq+ fancy UI= N79

Actually we dont have something revolutionary in mobile camera still....its only increase in megapixel...
n86 have something new atleast..variable aperture

I wanna see mainly wide angle lens & optical zoom..

All fancy things like smile shutter,image stabilizer are of not much use.

As soon as this will come N82 will retire for sure :lol:

even i never felt that my n73 has gone slow after installing 100+ apps but when i used N82 i realized how slow N73 was. Lol dude .

Actually what happens is that when we install apps one by one then our phone becomes little slower and we become used to it. So thats the reason we dont feel speed difference much. But in reality it slows down a lot.

I dont care what daydreamer thinks of n82 coz he always hates nokia phones. I hated n82 when it was Launched in silver but loved the black one .if nokia wouldnt hav launched black n82 then i would hav never bought it even if it was 10times better than its nearest competitor.

try running symtorrent in the background and play a video at the same time. The video will jitter but that doesnt happens on N82

Used n82 , n95 8gb and now using n85 , i can surely say that n85 is the best of the lot. But only if u get a solidly built n85 as it has build quality issues. Build quality and lack of xenon flash are the only two things lacking in n85. Gpu is n82 and n95 8gb only makes a difference in a handful of games . Global race is indeed great but i got bored of it playing on n82 and n95 8gb. n85 is as fast if not faster than n82 even under heavy multitasking like working with 15+ apps at a time. n79 should be the same.

I will say go for n82 and if u can increase ur budget then n85..

All this talk of n85/n79 cam being inferiour than n82 , it can be corrected in firmware updates. Even video recording bug can be easily corrected by firmware update. Its about time n85 has a firmware update .

ohh man it happened wid everyone on the first day. ask mrintech i was chatting wid him day b4 yesterday for over 2.5 hours continously on ym on my n82 and he never realized that i was typing from N82 until i told him and he was :shock:

and said how come u r typing so fast on mobile and that too N82 ?? :lol:

i was able to chat for 2.5 hrs widout any problems or finger pain. he was on pc and was tired b4 me :-D

so that clears my point that within 2 days one can get used to N82's keypad widout any problem

I have been using N82 from the past one and half months and I don't have any keypad issues..Infact I find the keypad a whole lot easier 2 use as there is a lot of space between the keys and the chances of pressing a wrong key r minimal..

N82's build quality is superb and its camera is awesome..I don't need 2 carry my digicam now...I take my N82 and I am done...Its the device which has everything that I need...And believe me it shoots such lovely photos that it even puts my Sony digicam 5 MP 2 shame sometimes...

Go for the N82..The mighty monster and u will not regret..

just one problem.. its a slider and a Slider is big NO NO coz I have a nokia 6265(CDMA Slider) and have changed the so called "strip" 5 times in last 3 years. Each time costing me around 1400/- so 1400 x 5 = 7000/- thats almost half the initial cost of the phone. :-x

So I have learned one thing...the lesser the moving parts the lower the maintenance. Just as in the case of Split A/C and a window A/C.. :grin:
