Hello,

I just registered today and this is my first post in this forum. I have been saving money to buy a high end phone and now have 35000 in hand. I was about to buy sony xperia zl online but the launch of nokia lumia 520 ruined my plan. I never owned a windows phone or ipad and thought that someday will buy them. I know that windows phone has less apps but always liked the fresh looking ui and fluid performance of wp. And ipad has high quality apps, games and now KuaiYong allows to download high quality paid apps, games for free which is amazing. So, shall i buy only sony xperia zl for 35000 or get nokia lumia 520+ipad mini wifi? I know that carrying too many devices is cumbersome specially while travelling but a small incident completely changed my perception. Last year in december our area faced power cut for 3 days, my laptop battery gave up on first day itself and my phone had only around 15% charge so i switched it off and kept it aside to preserve charge. Luckily my psp was fully charged so i could pass my time because we dont have inverter at home so i think having multiple devices is not a bad thing. On one hand there is this sony xperia zl with full hd display and quad core chip, on the other hand i can buy 2 devices nokia lumia 520 and ipad mini for the same amount. I am very confused, please help me to decide.

Welcome to TDF.

If I were you I would go for iPad mini + wp8. Both gets quick firmware updates unlike android. U can go for custom firmware in android but many don't em. U can get best of 2 sharing tech airplay and dlna(Nokia said dlna app play to ll be launch for 920 &820 no idea about 520)

Enough to get a flagship device!

It's called Piracy dude!

Decide What you actually want?
Android / WP8 / iOS ?
I would chose Android anyday because of it's customization capability and Community support.

Sorry i didn't knew that, i thought KuaiYong is a 3rd party app store for ios.
Thats the main reason why i am here, to decide. I have no issue with android but i am not someone who installs custom rom or root devices. I really like sony xperia zl but if i spend 35000 now then i will not be to buy another high end gadget for coming 2 years so i dont want to take a decision in hurry.

I think you should go for the 520 (since you don't like/want roms or rooting) now, and wait a bit for the next iPad mini and get a better screen and specs.

If i purchase 520 now i will left with 24500 so are you sure that next ipad mini with retina display will be priced around 24-25000?

ipad's and iphone's are priced same every year [new gen], the last gen will be sold less. iPad mini with retina is what i'm eyeing

I read one article that says if apple launch ipad mini 2 in april then most probably it will have new a6 chip and more ram but there wont be retina display due shortage of supply. If they want to include retina display then ipad mini 2 launch might get delayed upto oct 2013.

first gen ipad mini released on Oct-Nov 2012 so u ll see next gen only on Sep-Nov 2013 time span. They wanted to dominate the tablet section 10 inch they already did, ipad mini supported them. If they want to carry on the domination, ipad mini should be atleast 1080p or whooping 2,048 by 1,536

Why not a nexus 7 at 16k?

And why not wait a bit and take the HTC one?

Why not a Lumia 920?

Just letting you know that you have a lot of options at this price point.

Just letting you know that you have a lot of options at this price point.

1. I dont want any android tabs
2. Htc one will launch with a price tag of more then 40000 so it is out of my budget
3. Nokia lumia 920 is great but i dont want to spend so much on a wp.

I suggest you to buy 520+ipad mini, because if you wait for best then you always wait.and ipad mini 2 will never came before nov-dec 2013 in india.i had also never used before wp but after using android i want to try wp.you can also wait upto nov while enjoying wp until ipad mini 2 be released...

Nexus 7 + 520.

You don't regret buying N7. Best android tablet you can get in market.

iPad is over-rated IMO and over-priced. Do the math and card is in your table now.

if you take n7 then you have enough money to buy l620....n7+620 is also a good option....

Actually its not impossible to stretch to a N7 + L720, but ofcourse OP has stated that that he doesnt want android tablets, so its out of the question.

IMO go with Nexus 4 import it from U.S or get it from ebay.
And save the rest money for future upgrades

I second that.. Best advice..
It has the same processor as the ZL with 4.2 JB..
It will easily last for more than an year and a half.. (Galaxy Nexus - released Dec 2011 , still works like a charm) ..

Else as furious_gamer suggested get : Nexus 7 + 520.

Also explain why you don't prefer android tabs.

What a Coincidence! Even I'm considering getting an iPad Mini & Nokia Lumia 620 over Sony Xperia Z. Nexus 4 is a nice option but I'd never recommend spending on something that can't be repaired locally.

My choice would be Xperia ZL because I personally hate Apple's iPad & iPhones because of boring UI, no customisation options, no bluetooth file transfer & high price.

Moreover I don't think tablets are good for anything. I can't find a proper use for it. For portability smartphone is good & for watching movies, document editing, playing games, I prefer laptop.

If u own a laptop, then there is no use of tablet(acc. to me).

I own a Samsung Galaxy S2 & a 15" laptop

My 1st proper smartphone was htc legend which performed brilliantly when new. After a year it became sluggish and laggy even factory reset didnt improve the condition. So i sold it and bought nokia 701 when it was newly launched and i am still using nokia 701.

Aha u have used android [not Jellybean] and symbian. So Windows phone 8, ios and BB10 is left.

So get a lumia 620 [try a live demo for urself] and get an ipad mini [or wait for its sequel]

Suddenly one thought crossed my mind which i want to share, please do express your views. Nokia lumia 520 has krait dual core chip, adreno 305 gpu, 512mb ram and ipad mini has A5 dual core chip, power vr sgx543mp2 gpu, 512mb ram. All i am trying to say is that both these devices has midrange level specs so are they going to run all those apps, games about to release in next 2 years smoothly? Since sony xperia zl has s4 pro quad core chip, 2gb ram and adreno 320 gpu so don't you think zl will be more then capable of handling soon to be released apps, games?

Of course. You cant really compare an Adreno 320 with a Adreno 305.

I would advice you to go with the L520+iPad mini. The nexus7 isnt a bad choice either but the number of wuality apps for the iPad is staggering. There are a lot of restrictions in the iPad though but still its worth it.

And go for the L520 instead of L620. It actually betters it in some areas like screen size. Lacks a flash though but is slimmer. And 5k lesser.

And I can put up a L520 review in 1-2 weeks. Getting one as soon as it comes to stores :) My mini showing bad battery life and freezing of late (uses CM10, JB 4.2)

I like nokia lumia 620 more then lumia 520 but my budget doesnt allow to buy lumia 620 with ipad mini so i will stick with lumia 520. Please share you review after buying lumia 520 :)

I came to know that microsoft will support wp7.8 and wp8 till q4 of 2014. So what will happen after that? Dump it in a dustbin?

I think all WP8 devices will be updated to WP9. I'm not sure though.

And L520 has better battery than L620.

L520 also has an IPS screen !!

I vote against the iPad mini- Dated processor and low resolution are its biggest disadvantages..
Agreed every iOS app is customised to run smoothly on every iDevice, but you can't expect much from a 2 year old processor.. Better wait for its upgrade model !

If you are still considering a high end Android as an option, the Xperia Z is on sale for Rs 32455 on HS18 Super Saver Deals. One heck of a deal..

Hi friends, thanks for sharing your suggestions. I have now decided to purchase nokia lumia 820 from flipkart for 23499. I realized there is no use of buying wp8 phone with only 512mb ram because a game like temple run that runs fine in 512mb android phone requires atleast 1gb ram in wp8. Slowly normal wp apps too will start demanding atleast 1gb so its better safe then sorry. After buying nokia lumia 820 i will left with 11500 so i will keep it and continue saving more and will buy ipad mini 2 later when it will officially launch in india :)

Good choice :-D The lumia 720 is actually better than the 820 in some ways but it only has 512mb ram. And many games in WP demand 1GB or more. So 820 is the safer choice !!

820+iPad mini = AWESOME :-D
Well I try the L920,S3 and iPad 4 on a daily basis(roomies have them:p I'm still stuck on galaxy pop) and love both WP and the iPad

Even I would suggest an iPad mini (possibly the next version) + a WP/Droid.

I have an iPad 2 + Android phone. I would strongly recommend keeping an iPad as your choice of tablet.

Thanks. Right from the beginning i was leaning towards wp+ios not because i dislike android. I have no problem using android but somewhere i feel that android has become very common and get updates too late (no offense to android lovers). The phone makers release new android updates whenever they like, there is no sense of urgency. Some unlucky users keep waiting for months for updates. I know they can install custom roms but not all users are familiar and even some phone comes with locked bootloader. As soon as a new android version is released google should distribute it to the mobile companies with a condition that all the mobile companies will have to prepare there version of os (touch wiz etc) within 60 days and start seeding the update to compatible handsets from 61th day onwards or else google will cancel there licence but i dont think this will ever happen. Nexus phones are not officially available here and even if did, it will be useless for media junkies due to only 16gb storage and no micro sd slot.
I also feel those who are not app crazy or advanced user should avoid buying android. One friend of mine who is also my neighbour bought samsung note 2 last year and she only use her phone for calls, web browsing, music, facebook, i used her phone many times and i dont think she ever logged into the playstore . It is like using a v8 sports car for daily grocery shopping, so unfair :(
