I just read the news about HTC earning some profit this year. If you ask me, this Taiwanese "Apple-Wannabe" company needs to die !! I cant believe people are actually buying HTC products. I can understand iSheeps. For them their devices add to their status symbols, but HTC...its just plain retard logic being their products.
Is there any HTC phone other than the One M7/M8 thats is ever slightly worth recommending?

Ill quote one line from this article HTC swings to slim profit, but sales still down in 'challenging quarter' - CNET
HTC also identified the Desire 610 and 510 as strong performers in the US and Europe, while the Desire 816 was "solid" in Taiwan, China, India and the Middle Ea"
FACEPALM !!
Who are these people buying these phones ? Why are they buying those crappy Desire line of phones?
Recently HTC launched Desire 501 , a thick, bulky mid range 15-20k segment device, with 4.7"FWVGA and NO FLASH camera.
What---da---actual---fraak ???????? DO they expect people to spend money on this ??

Ok, so with Big MNC company comes MNC quality servicing. Oh really? In East region of India there are only 4 service centers ! Just F-ing 4 !!!! If my (imaginary) HTC phone has slight problem, i have to send it to KOLKATA !!!!! Thats half way around the country for me ! Flextronics Collection points are useless as they are merely agents and dont know **** about repairs.

The only "good" phone from HTC is the One M8 and M7 . But they are extremely overpriced, and cost a lot more than their rivals. Their justification is their unique features like front facing speakers, Metalic body and 4mpx Ultracrappypixel camera. Rivals phones have much more practical exclusive unique features and they still cost much lesser.People out here buy the M7 / M8 just because its expensive. Rich people dont want to be seen using something commoners middle class people use.

So what amazes me is, how can a company , which is more or less Chinese (Taiwan), with no fancy brand image like Samsung and Apple, continue to do business when they have delivered only ONE decent phone (Htc One) since HTC One X, and thats like 4-5 years ago! Is there something i missed in my Business Studies class? I thought low quality equals to low sales and good quality equals to high sales, but in reality its the cr@p ones thats thrive..

Take htc one m8 or any previous htc flagship device and go to a public place such as a park or museum or any place with lots of people, take your phone out, take a few pictures or just pretend using your phone. And you will realize why HTC.

Also the UI, haven't seen anything better yet.

Even the damned Samsung Galaxy S4 lags. I'm not a fan of their UI, but I haven't seen any HTC flagship phone lagging. Their mid-end does suck though.

oh..and HTC One X came 2.5 years ago.

About the UI, its not just the pretty looks. Its how everything is integrated to provided a great UX is what makes it an amazing phone.
You will realize it only after using it for a few days.

Even the google dumb ui looks pretty. but just looks pretty that's it.

What? HTC is a great mobile manufacturer, actually it's really surprised that they aren't making that much profit lately. HTC like Apple don't actually care about low/low mid range segment as they know already that they couldn't compete in the market with Samsung and more importantly these low end mobiles don't provide much return anyway

But their high end mobiles are as good as they can get and their one x/one/m8 all these high end mobiles were really nice.

FYI.Htc has a "okay" line up this year, which is comparatively better than samsung.
Coming to Samsung they are killing them selfs, 3-5 mid rangers are they nuts?
Since, samsung doesn't stop old products lets say +3-4 to that 5 phones. So totally they have Grand 2,Grand Prime,Grand 3 coming soon? , Mega 2,A3,A5,S5 Mini,S4,S4 mini jeez. Some crappy some surprisingly good speced phones all running crapwiz

Haha so polarised. I pretty much have the same question for all of android.

People want to use a smartphone.
No smartphone is perfect.
Every decision made with any criteria / constraints still begs the question "what were they thinking when they exchanged money for that"

solution is not to worry about what other people are buying.

Htc e8 is the most vfm product in its category.. Their low and mid range phones are usually priced a bit ridiculously, but it seems like they are trying to rectify their mistake ( from past year's pricing)

Every android manufacturer is suffering losses. And this year , samsung will too. Samsung have reported a massive drop in profits.

Only Apple has the vision and keenness to understand market requirements and make huge profits year after year.

The most iconic statement i have ever heard was by Steve jobs - People who are serious about software should make their own hardware. And it still holds true today. Ios / OSX is so much better than android/windows. Everything is so integrated and seamless. Android manufacturers are just playing hit and miss with their android skins and optimization techniques and every android product is a half assed product.

^^

Samsung, LG and HTC all made profits this quarter. None of them have suffered a loss.

Samsung have earned very less compared to what they made last year.
LG had a strong quarter because of G3.
HTC has had seen good sales of M8.

Well I too was thinking along the same lines. Most of HTC's below 15K mobiles have bad resolution and paltry internal memories along with a laggy experience. Desire 816 was a good hit for HTC but not the other Desire wannabes. IMO HTC should concentrate on top and mid tiers only.

You forgot to study the one important thing.

Its called 'Bling'

Why did people buy iphone? Why do they keep on buying it? What did iphone 5s had that a 20k android phone didn't? Why did people buy a low res, small screen, low camera phone when they can get a 1080p phone with 5" IPS and 13MP OIS camera for much much less?

Looks matter and HTC hit it right with their design. For people who spend 40k+ for a phone, looks take over, features no longer make any difference as most 30k+ android phone pack same feature. I can bet 90% of those who buy a 30k+ phone do not buy it so that they can enjoy that obscure IR port which never gets used. They do it so they can show off. And look wise HTC wins hands down in the high end segment with the One series. Put the M8 beside a G2 and you'll always want the M8, always.

Apple proved there is money in the high end segment, sell a small number of phones(comparing iphone sells with total number of android sells) and make a large profit on every unit, ka ching...

HTC is gunning to become the Lamborghini in android world. Hope they survive. The M8 is the best looking android phone I'd seen.

Couldn't have said any better.

HTC does have the fancy branding . Combine that with a good design you get a hot selling phone-regardless of specs or performance.

I have this friend from college who is planning to buy an 816 because it's good looking. And because it's an HTC

Did you guys read the digit's best OS review. Htc's skinned android took better score than stock android. BTW technically htc's sense version of android end up in second place. I saw my colleagues HTC one e8, even though it is plastic the device build quality is excellent

because they don't care yet keep launching cheap mobiles with crappy spec and old version of sense results in this kind of "HTC bashing" thread. so far Desire 820 price looks spot on but go down into the 10-20k range and HTC falls face first with poor h/w, ancient version of android, no update and bad build quality. most people who buy their (budget) phones for the bling factor as tkin said but most budget buyers are unique in the sense that they first buy the product then do research if the item is good.

Didn't read whole of this thread, but HTC makes some good phones. Their low end phones might not be their best, but at-least the high end phones are a "Class Apart".
Few months ago, I was dying to get HTC One, but it was a close competition between Nexus 5. I settled with Moto X only because in the rapidly changing world of technolgy (plus my economic status) warranted me not to spend too much on the phone, but a large deciding factor was the features which Moto X offered in just 16.2 K price (after offers).

So, if it hadn't been Moto X or N5 I think I would have got HTC One hands down.

Oh and btw, I also used HTC Mozart, a WP 7 which came out years ago. I got it second hand. Sold to my friend third hand. And it still works rock solid. Wrote a big review about it which must be lying somewhere on this same forum.

"HTC makes bad phones" is just a gross over generalization.

One M8 is a good phone. The only thing bad about it is the camera, and not only mega pixel, the camera lens scratching issue shows QC on hTC's part isn't on par with Samsung.
Then they realized the mistake they did with it and released the Eye M8. All mouths should be shut now. Can't say about the quality of the 13 mp snapper on the Eye though, no proper review is there yet.
Then they have their E8, a phone for people on budget, overall a decent phone.

I don't look at anything less flagship, so can't say about other mid rangers, there might be good phones out there outside their flagship lineup after all, not sure though.

IMHO, hTC should come/rank second after Samsung in marketing area of Android. They don't release plethora of phones like Samsung, it's a good thing! How could it be a bad thing is beyond me! In whatever case, comparing hTC with (rApple is beyond diabolical.

HTC makes better phones than samsung.Their UI and SONY UI is the best UI. Stock Android does get boring soon :/ (Moto G2 Stock UI is very boring, but smooth.CM 11 based android is a bit better than stock UI because of the features)

HTC needs to focus only on 2-3 phones a year, reduce margins and costs.

increase margins and reduce costs.

Why increase margins? That will end up increasing the price of the phone. Samsung's distributors have a quite a huge margin on their phones thats why we see crap phones that should be priced at 10k for 14-16k

- - - Updated - - -

What you think about new htc desire 820...?

"Okay" will be priced at 25k mostly
theserpent
Nov 7, 2014 at 11:23 AM
Its worth buy??

I would say No.

5.5" 1280 x 720p, the display is crap.At 25k, you are better of with a nexus 5 or a LG G2, and if you are willing to risk it, One Plus One is a steal at 25k.

- - - Updated - - -

Only if HTC kept the screen at 4.7" to 5", reduced the plastic usage and priced it at 18-20k it would be a good choice
