I am planning to get the new machine next week... after a 1 month wait and talking to a lot of Digitians i have finally halted on this config...

Intel Q6600
MSI P7N Platinum (wish Diamond was avaiiable... also waited for XFX 780i but heard it gets hot too much and had no other suggested board so though of this one... intitail budget for this was 15k but no choice availble)
MSI 8800GTS OC 512MB (thought of 2 512 8800GT but i was suggested to get 1 GTS instead)
2 X 2048 Corsair DDR2 800MHz ( thought of 4 X 2048 but dont know if it will perform or not)
Corsair VX550 PSU ( desperate to get this but not available... might cosider CM 600 Watts )
CM Elite 330 cabinet (dont know if 690 will be availble or not in Kolkata)
Samsung Lightscribe DVD writer ( any suggestion)
HDD 250GB ( any suggestion)

I have 200 + 80gb PATA HDD and a Sony DVD writer already... using a 17" samsung syncmaster but will get a Dell 22" in next 2 months...

main purpose of the machine is gaming and 3D works...

Please suggest..

Wow....you are spending so much money on a computer dude.

Don' buy the lightscribe DVD writer, u won't be needing it. Stick to your Sony DVD writer.

Buy Western Digital Cavier SE WD2500AAKS SATA 2 Hard disk with 16 MB Buffer. Use those PATA harddisks in a external 3.5" HD casing for use as a external Harddisk.

Isn't 8800GT better option than 8800GTS?

Don't go for Dell 22". Go for 24". not much difference in price and you get fullHD only with a 24" display.

a small suggestion ,
if u can afford it 2 8800 gt with sli are much much better that 8800gts ( i think a single 8800gt is almost equal to a gts)

8800GT performs better than 8800 GTS. *www.anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3140&p=7

Get the ASUS/Gigabyte cards. Much more reliable when compared to XFX's.

i think thats 8800 GTS 320 or 640 MB but 8800 GTS 512 G92(same core as 8800GT)outperforms 8800 GT!

Yes as for my research goes 8800GTS with G92 is better card than 8800GT... and has a better result...

and i wikll be buying the MSI card not XFX ...

Also can u give me the link of 24" dell monitor which u are suggesting

I wouldnt buy the 780i board.
If you are not going to do SLI, get P35 or X38, much better options.
780i is nothing but 680i.

Go fro ASUS STiKer Motherboard or IP 35 Pro or Go for X38 Motherboards and Blastix RAm 80 Mhz
Intead of Q6600 go for Peryn 8200 pr 8300 or 8500 ( 45NM processor )
PSU : Coolent master 600 W

I want to get a Quad core... the reason why u said that might be that Q6600 can be overclocked to 3.4 but a E8400 can go upto amazing 4.2 as i have read... but i want to go for Quad core as 3D max uses 4 cores for rendering... even the games present now a days dont use 4 cores and 8400 can give better result... but in future games will definatly use 4 cores...

any suggestions guys

I dont want to go for 450watts...

Dont go by the rating, its nowhere close to the local cheapo ones you get.Its a solid one.
I am using one in my Main PC, works like a charm.
Your call though.

please verify, many r not satisfied with q6600, i dont know why. suggesting e8400 unable to provide reason.
Reason is not many applications are optimized for multicore CPUs. Ones which can harness the available CPU power, really benifit with Quad. That is the reason sometimes Quad shows lacklustre performance.

i am not going with the ratings... i need minimum of 500 watts... with 3 HDD+ 2 Writer+ 1 GTS+1 Quad Core processor i will definately need a good PSU... also might use the same if i decide to go for SLI... i will be using MAX and MAYA which definatly uses the multiple cores

ok, nice config indeed!
MSI 8800GTS is a good pick and will outperform a 8800GT.
Regarding RAM, did u search for other brands like Patriot or OCZ or G.Skill ? Regarding PSU, IMO u should be better off with a CM Real Power 550W PSU ! It should be an ideal choice. Going with a lightscriber writer doesnt make any sense unless u are going to give CD/DVDs ur own trademarks! :p And regarding motherboard, i would say, go with a MSI P35 Platinum. P7N Diamond/Platinum is just another board with a nvidia 780i chipset and supporting 3-way SLI configuration. Plus, i heard that the board has issues with lower Quad's multipliers. Look, you are spending that much on config, then it would be good if u go for a solid performing Motherboard, i.e. Platinum P35! :)

get the corsair hx 620W. .if u're going the SLI way i think 9600GT scales a lot better . but a single 8800GTS will do fine. . its much cooler than the 8800GT.
you might also consider evga instead of MSI . not that MSI is bad or anything. .evga is more popular . u can get it from tirupathi enterprises. or forums.erodov.com might be a good start.

Ah. Okay. if the MSI 8800GTS has G92 core, then certainly it will outperform 8800GT.

*www1.ap.dell.com/content/products/compare.aspx/20lcd?c=in&cs=indhs1&l=en&s=dhs

Check 2408WFP.

  • 24-inch WUXGA 1920 x 1200 Monitor – View 43% more screen area & 30%3 more pixel content on-screen compared any Dell 20-inch monitor.
6 Millisecond Response Time (typical) – Reduces ghosting and imaging associated with movement for fluid motion.
3000:1 Dynamic Contrast Ratio – Get dark blacks, sharp images, crisp text, brilliant colour saturation and greater life-like detail.
110%1 Colour Gamut (CIE 1976) - With Dell TrueColorTM Technology, you’ll see more colour than average monitor of 72% colour gamut.
  • Full HD 1080p – Supports higher definition than HD television and a wide array of HD connection options like HDMI, Display Port, DVI-D with HDCP and HDMI 2.1 Audio Out.

This is a full HD model that has 1080p resolution support.

The problem that ajayashish is facing is that the VX550 is not available he is considering it cause it has the 8 pin PCI Express connector and thus makes it futureproof for videocard upgrades. The HX620 doesn't hve the 8 pin connector. But know this that new GPUs with 8 pin power requirements are also supplied with 6 to 8 pin power cable so u can connect it without any issues if the 12V rail has enough juice.
If u want a pure 8 pin power supply then Tagan PSUs are also there like the BZ600 for 6400 and the BZ700 here- *www.theitwares.com/smps/smps.htm.

get the corsair hx 620W. .if u're going the SLI way i think 9600GT scales a lot better . but a single 8800GTS will do fine. . its much cooler than the 8800GT.

Sagargv I have an interesting find that on the 8600gt and 9600gt the fan spins down to 30% when temp crosses 60c so it produces a lot of heat and possible crashes in benchmarks and games.
By the way nVidia team has been informed and is currently working on the drivers to fix this.

Thanks guys... no one said if MSI P7N is fine or not...

I answered your query about the board in post # 8 itself.
I wouldnt buy 780i based board at all. There is nothing new about it, its just 680i with a chip to make it PCIe 2.0 ready, nothing more, no wonder it doesnt clock much.So its really not wise to give a premium for a chipset that has nothing new to offer.

now u hafta choose between a better chipset [X38] or SLi support (750/780i).

Why is PCIe 2.0 so important to you ?
P35 is not PCIe 2.0 yet all current 'PCIe 2.0' work flawlessly on it.
It is a well known fact that even with PCIe 1.0 , full bandwidth is STILL not utilised, that PCIe 2.0 is necessary.

Frankly, your requirement of SLI board has made it difficult to choose a perfect board which is the best bang for the buck.

IF SLI goes out of the equation, suddenly there are so many options !

Compare Abit IX38 QuadGT and MSI P7N Platinum and tell me honestly, which board impresses you more.

If SLI is mandatory then i would say get the 790i and nothing else. If you are game with it, i will suggest you decent memory for that board. You can go with EVGA 790i or XFX one, whichever you like.It will be an expensive affair though.

This is what annoys me, its like Nvidia is dictating the terms here.
Meaning, if you want SLI ( Their super elite, awesome, out of this world, droolworthy multi GPU technology) then you have to compulsory buy their crappy, pathetic chipset based motherboards too.The one that is really good is so obscenely expensive.Even Intel flagship chipset isnt that expensive.
Here is a simple comparison,
Gigabyte X48T-DQ6 is cheaper by a healthy 20$ or so compared to EVGA/XFX 790i Ultra SLI. Gigabyte has much better build quality and is more feature rich compared to EVGA/XFX boards which are just reference boards.
No thanks, when i am spending my money, i would love to have my options open, thats the reason i love Crossfire.Intel chipsets right from P965 support it, AMD chipsets obviously support it.
I dont think SLI has so much compatibility as Crossfire.
This is just my opinion though.

I hope you get my point.

Why is PCIe 2.0 so important to you ?

i think that he wants pcie2.0 support cuz he doesnt wanna upgrade mobo b4 2yrs or so.
by the time games actually start utilizing the full bandwidth provided by pcie2.0,pcie3.0 or higher will be there.at the present rate it'll take more than 2yrs b4 games utilize the full pcie2.0 bandwidth.
so i think its no use getting a pcie2.0 enabled mobo just to make ur buy future proof.
buy a mobo which gives the best performance in ur budget.if it has pcie2.0 support then its an added bonus.:)

Games or rather software doesnt utilise the bandwidth, its the card which does. The cards need to utilise the full available bandwidth to give good performance which is not the case right now.
