Hi Digitians

How many of you use Windows Automatic Updates or Auto Patcher or WSUS for updating your XP/2000/2003 Workstations and Servers ?

I update regularly, but my regularly is once or twice a month. I use windows only when I want to browse my nokia 7610 phone as I do not know how to do that in linux. So when I do boot into windows I invariably end up leaving my pc on windows for 15-30 minutes to update windows, antivirus and sometimes firewall. What a waste.

I never update my windows. The min you install Windows update another few update follows which is waste of bandwidth.

Nokia 7610 may work on most modern GNU/Linux distros.try gnokii on Debian or Ubuntu .also is symbian oggplay for song management.

Yes I know....but never tried them...I am happy with my autopatcher..:D

Using Ryan's Packs is a better option. I have notices that Autopatcher includes even those Hotfixes which have been replaced by newer hotfixes, as mentioned in Ryan's Changelog.

Installing all the Hotfixes included in Autopatcher is not very useful or beneficial.

why not...

when u have 50 PC and have licanse for 25 PCs... and other 25 runs on illigal windows... then it would be called 50% legal i guess... isnt it... :p

My Windows XP is theoretically illegal and practically legal. But still I hate updating it! I find no use...especially when I have Kaspersky around. And that too when I wrote guide on saving windows xp updates on hard drive and CD!! :D

I update using Microsoft Update & all the softwares needing update (Adaware, Orbitron) every Sunday (Except AVG which auto updates - avast! needed manual updates but i switched to AVG a week back).

Even though I have Genuine XP I have disabled autoupdates coz I dont want IE7,WMP 11, Dotnot framework etc and other such stuff which I really dont need. I want to see what M$ installs on my PC besides it allows driver updates etc.

I don't update windows as updating it usually results in the OS going against you.
Instead, sab kutch mai manually kartha hoon.
But for My Ubuntu Feisty Fawn, I update it regularly, every day(if at all updates come everyday). Its auto update is not at all fishy, and everything is open to the user.
I used to use Autopatcher too, occasionally. But now I use another thing called offline windows updater. Its a softy that downloads the windows patches, updates, etc to a folder, creates an ISO, updates the iso regularly and the ISO can be burnt and updates can be created.
Even these updates are rare for me.

I update manually, i hate crawling connections without my notice. So i have set Automatic Updates to notify me when new updates are available. I also check for them manually sometimes.
