A few of my old movies were deleted from one of the partitions of my hard disk. Is there any way of retrieving them as these editions are no longer available?

Remember not to use the partition otherwise you may overwrite stuff and it will be difficult to recover chunks spread around.
+1 to recuva. Unless those files were overwritten, it will recover them for you.
The bigger the file, the less likely you will recover it completely.. Documents and music files are easy to recover but movies will be significantly diffcult
