I have an i7 920 pc, which is a power hog as u may know. Now i am on a broadband plan (dataone home 500) that gives nighttime unlimited downloads (2 am to 8 am). So i have scheduled my pc to starton and download (via utorrent) in that time. But keeping my pc on for 6 hours every night has increased my power bills significantly. Is there any way to run my pc in the absolute low power state possible just to download during nighttime and get back to full power state in the day ? Without any hardware modifications and only through software ? Any suggestions ?

Buy a router that supports connecting a USB drive/hdd and has ability to dl torrents. No need to keep the PC on.

Are these available? I mean that would be handy for me :)

I already did that, but still when i see it in core temperature, it shows cpu is dragging 143 watts and 43 watts alternatively every 2 seconds even if my pc is in idle. How can i fix it to just 43 watts ?

Yes easily available ,
Asus RT-N13U | Router | Flipkart.com

Or this, if you have a big house and need to cover wider range, better processor and RAM, more usb ports etc.
