Do you use an Ethernet card to connect to the Internet? If yes, is it detected?

If you are using an ethernet card then you need to have your 'Default Gateway', IP address, 'Subnet Mask' & 'DNS server' adresses with you to set up internet in Ubuntu.

Post more details here so that I can help.

*ubuntuguide.org/#configurenetworkconnections
^ you need to go for static IP address.
Follow the method and see if you can get it working.

no need for all those details on Ubuntu,

Just goto terminal and type

sudo pppoeconf

Then go thro' the steps(all well explained as for a n00b)
and voila, Ubuntu does the rest :D

Cheers!!!
