I missed the previous humble bundle, not going to make the same mistake again

Forgive me for my ignorance, but i have some doubts on how these works..I haven't played much games as i've been living for the last 4 yrs in hostel with max. Internet speeds like 30kbps( yeah i know.. :shock:

). I recently moved back to my house & currently, i get max. speed of upto 200 kbps ( upto 8 GB, 50kbps afterwards )

so, are these steps correct or am i mistaken..

1. I download steam client/make a steam account.
2. Donate for the humble bundle & get Activation codes for games.
3. Download games using those codes.

is internet connection always required for playing the games ??? I am severely restricted by bandwidth..

what happens if i format my pc ? can i download the games again with the same codes ?
is there any kind of validity on the codes ? because atm, i got my ancient core 2duo pc which i will be replacing soon with a laptop( by dec. 2013 probably ). Can i use the codes even at that time ?

Not sure of others, but u can play the games Offline.
Though internet connection is needed for first-time installation (if you got the game via DvD like Digit game demos).

Everytime games checks for updates i guess (not sure of offline).
For online, it downloads the updates first and then only you can play (sometimes the update will be in GBs)

once u activate a game on your steam/origin account it gets tied to it. u dont need the codes again. u can open the account on any pc and download the game.
and u can play offline. although online is needed for activation first and downloading the game.

But you will need your friend's credential everytime and all the achievements you unlock goes to him.

@ashs1 - Once you d/l game, take a backup i disk, so you can use it anytime w/o downloading again. After every update, i take backup of my games and once i finish any Single Player, i will delete the local content and keep it in backup drive.

Yup, you can do that but you will have to login to origin everytime to play (Although I think you may make it, offline login also, im not sure)

you can pause and resume. bf3 is around 15gb i guess.
they are huge.

you can restart your pc any number of times during download. both ~~stream~~steam* and origin use their own compression techniques during download. steam downloads maybe comparatively less in size.

Origin's login work offline, as well as steam. but you need to login online at least once in 1-2 weeks.

you can trust entropay, I've used it countless times...even for this bundle

i'm behind college proxy always, and steam won't work on proxies.
they should alteast allow either downloads through the website (like GOG) or downloads only no purchase through steam client.

this will work with steam. it will reduce the download size depending on how outdated the pirated game is. first activate key in steam client. then u can install the pirated game, create the game's folder in steam apps>common. copy its files there. and launch the game from steam client. it will discover already present files and download accordingly.
didn't work for fifa 13 in origin for me. it installed but didn't launch. blank screen.

Those are Steam Keys, copying the game folder may not just work depending on various things. It's better to download.

No. They have to share their steam A/c else if you redeem the key the game will be yours and bind to your A/c. Also there is no way to download the game before you buy / redeem.

No dude. Once u activate a game in your Steam account, you will not be able to transfer / gift it to any other account.
But you can do this,
Create a Steam account for them, activate the game in their account, and download via that.
Then give them the backup files.

Yeah I have faced similar issue when resuming download but it fixes it self after few seconds. When resuming it was going 0% & size showing 42MB but it fixes that after few seconds. So technically downloads are not getting reset.

Yes i purchased withh Google wallet. I used my entropay credit card with Google wallet which i use for play store. It worked fine.

Interact with other Sims. Gear up towards your sims personality(career,family, have a baby etc). And IIRC, you can play online with other Sims.

basically, if you are planning to buy the Humble Origin Bundle, then make sure you have either Steam or Origin. Origin is a must here, since BF3 is possible to redeem through it.

So better to create an Origin Account, before the purchase.

Yup no need to have origin or steam account to buy the bundle. Just click 'Pay with credit card' and enter your CC number. It doesn't work with any debit card.
If you dont have a CC make one by your bank's portal or Entropay.

You cannot txfer money thru Google Wallet. Ask your friend to purchase it as gift and send you the URL. Else, use your card, fill money in entropay CC and purchase.

entropay need atleast 15$ in account but we need only 5$ and we need to pay 5% fee as well (well thats not a big deal as we are getting a steal deal) but i am worried that i wont be using my balance any more and how would i refund the cash back to my account

I dont know what is your problem with ICICI bank's card. I use ICICI Bank Debit Card, and it is accepted everywhere, starting from steam store/paypal/Amazon.

Can you tell us how you are trying and what error you are getting?

You need to verify your card in front of the Webcam, then you can transfer your money back. Also entropay charges to transfer funds.
and the minimum amount is $20.

Do you have Internet Banking enabled? Then what is stopping you from creating VCC, which your bank provides w/o any fee/charges.

i was selecting credit card as payment and entered my debit card details but it failed

Next step would be download and install Origin as well as Steam. Create account , login to the account and activate the games using the key that is in the humble bundle's page.

D/L Size for BF3 is 17GB and read my post no #73. ME is 5GB, DS 6GB, DS3 10GB, SIMS 3 with DLC 7.5GB.

BF3 is 20GB. You can pause/resume anytime. Even if you connection drops, it will pause and not revert back.

Two days back i downloaded 7 gb of battlefield 3 n suddenly my computer went off and when restarted windows 8 repaired hard disk n my whole download was gone :banghead:

It is totally worth it, just for BF3 multi and DS3 co-op .

There is a chance that you might get high ping in BF3 and get irritated cuz of that.

But nevertheless, it is still fun. I get shitty pings and have played around 60 hours so far.

Yh. See my post no #73 and read that URL. Just initiate the download and d/l for sometime. It will be enough, i guess.

Pings depend on the connection, you will get better pings if you have a stable WLAN. I play BCBF2 i still manage to get 200ms ping, when there are no Asian servers there. Hoping better pings from BF3 since its a very active game, there are many Asian servers.

Btw, is MOH multiplayer any good? Should I even try ?

There are no active MOH MP's are there IIRC. But SP is worth trying, MP never tried.

though the download doesnt go above 100KB where as i can download at 200KB+

I did the same thing with NFS Most wanted from a pirated copy. The download progress jumped and I had to download some 2 GB of data. But when I tried to play the game, it stuck in a black screen.

After some researching I found that there is a option of Verify Installation, when I did that it was showing some files need to be downloaded again. And at the end total data downloaded was the size of the game :-|

So good luck with this trick, it may or may not work. If you face any problem in running the game after installation, do the verify installation thing.

After you buy the humble bundle you will be forwarded to a page where you will find all the game keys, also same page link will be sent to your email.
Then You will have to make account of origin and/or steam, and redeem your games by entering keys humble bundle gave you.

the installation takes 15gb but origin takes the completed download as 10.5gb so there are redundand files of 5gb something
now i am picking few big files (9.5gb + 5.5gb) and will start the download from start and keep on replacing them one by one (this will give me an idea which files can be used)

lets see if this work i will post the files name if they work as i have download of 11gb and if i can get 9.5gb then its still good

Remember to initiate download of all, just 1% will do. Since you have added them, otherwise they delete the game if you don't download in 30 days.

Medal of honor worth downloading ? I downloaded crysis 2 and dead space 3. Crysis 2 i played up to getting the tank, looks good. Dead Space is modern and have good graphics, but it give me a headache, i think this is due to dark environment, i have to verify it by playing again and see if i get headache again. Previously i had same problem with Black Mesa, playing that game for some time make me overloaded, had uninstalled it after playing it few times.

MOH is worth. I liked the single player campaign. Nice time pass.

Yes. In a month. But just start all the downloads and stop it when its 1%. Then you can download whenever you want.

redeam only steam keys go to steam cliant and under the game get your CD key and from that CD key you can redeam the game on origin .... i have done this for 3 games as of now and saved 3 unused origin keys (this is 100% safe)

There are two tabs to redeem.. One is origin, the other is steam..
If you have already redeemed the keys for origin, go to the link and click the other tab.. the steam keys will be fresh and unused.. you may or may not give them to friends/trade/sell them..

What does 'redeem' stands for here, is it clicking on the button on the humble bundle page to show the codes or to add them in your library by opening them in a game client like origin or steam

I installed Crysis 2 installed on Steam. Only problem i see is i have to manually enter key after Crysis start. Steam will show an ingame message with key, you have to type that key to access multi-player. Not sure if you have to do this in origin. I have not tried multiplayer yet.

medal of honor i too want to know if there any difference between installing on origin or steam. If both same, i will get it in steam.

origin is worst (@#$%$#@ ... you know what i mean) its been 4 days and i am struggling with this @@#%%#. First it reset the download after 19gb to 16gb (happend 3 times) and when i started the download from start and reached 12gb around 10pm and now when i saw the download today morning(continuous download) it reached 9gb

continuous download for a night reached 12gb to 9gb (wow it looks like i am transferring the data to these useless origin server)

Origin download is not the worst. I too had problem with origin downloading game.. i too thought that. I searched, found solution, i was using google dns. This forced me download from US server. I changed DNS to BSNL dns, now origin started downloading from Akami server hosted in BSNL, i got very good speed. In steam, you can select download server, origin use geo dns, so when you request download, it return IP of nearest server depending on your DNS server. I got very good speed after using BSNL name servers, never got that much speed with Steam. When i was using google dns (8.8.8.8) download reach 4 GB, then start again from 1 GB etc.. happened to me.

I used opendns before. But i don't like the page they show for sites that won't work. Also google DNS is faster, google have direct peering agreement with some of the indian ISP.

This info is not true according to Origin users . If you have redeemed the code in Origin , that games is yours no matter whether you download it or not .

1 . Steam - yes, download forever. You can give your a/c details to your grand kid before you die.

Both these things are possible for Steam, as well as for Origin.

With Steam, you cannot use same a/c in multiple PCs at same time. That means, 1 PC you are online in Steam, and one PC you play in Offline mode, but you cannot be online in 2PCs simultaneously. Never tried before, but this is what i am assuming.

Not for all games and for Single Player, you don't need to. But to unlock Steam achievements you need to be Online.

I also talked to an EA support guy (dont have the screens sorry). According to that, when u buy any origin game digitally, especially like the the current humble bundle, within 30 days of that purchase you should have that game in your download queue or download history in origin or that code will no longer be valid.

Is it the same one u posted #165 ?? It seems that the rep got a bit confused with the wording of your question, coz if u see she seems to be answering the question "I have purchased a game from origin store, is there any limit to when and how many times can i download the game from there?". I am a 100% sure that what I talked was what i posted, as i talked to the guy for nearly 10-12 minutes and he was very helpful too.
What I wrote was that for the purchase to bind to your account (paying money for it simply does not make u the owner apparently), you have to start downloading the game at least once before 30 days, after that its just the same as Steam, which everyone is already familiar with .

Nope you can't activate or Download or Even Play the Game in both the Portals. Either one is possible.

Steam have a a backup option. Just backup the games you want to share.

Go to Steam > Backup and Restore Games. You have option to take backup and restore. Take backup on one PC, then copy it to another, use the restore option.

Nice service, start a thread for that. this save lot of bandwidth. Many will love getting Battlefrield and humble bundle games this way.

The process remains the same, all he has to do is check the option "buy this as a gift" and he will receive an email from humble bundle containing the gift code which he can send to you. On clicking that link you will be directed to humble bundle site where u fill in the recipients email (in this case your own) email address and viola, you get the link to the codes page in ur email .

as long as he does not fill in his own email address and redeem the gift for himself after clicking on link received in the 1st step, u will be fine

well if you can open the casing & direcly connect to your PC it might get detected. Search youtube for how to remove casing without breaking it.

That's what I said. I don't have that huge HDD space now

So I just can't download and delete them and waste my bandwidth.

I have downloaded BF3 and Mirrors Edge, so take those for now, keep playing them until I download the next games. Either way he won't be able to play all the game after receiving it. Instead he can enjoy one by one.

Also, it's not possible to write 60GB Content at once.

I just did that today, copied a friends BF3 premium game(with all dlcs) started BF3 dwnload in origin, and replaced the files.
stll it downloaded about 3 gb of data for me(hardly took 120 secs on office net

), but yea it worked after that.

For Steam, once you enter the key, it link to your account.

For Origin, once you enter key, you need to download the game once before 30 days, then only it will tie up to your account.

You should have read the Humble Bundle email that you got after redeeming that gift code. It clearly says, the keys will be there forever. But for security reasons you should redeem the keys as soon as possible. It's also recommended to redeem the keys ASAP, if for any reason they database gets compromised, your key will be gone. Otherwise they keys will be there forever.

They won't expire ever, once you redeem the keys in Steam / Origin, the games will be yours forever and lifetime. As already said, you can give that a/c to your grandson too

BTW, Origin has a rule, that you must start downloading the game within 1 month of redeeming / buying the key on Origin. Else it may get deleted. So start the download and cancel it on 1%. Then they will be there forever and you can download and play anytime when you wish to.

Steam has no such Rules AFAIK.

No, once you redeem the keys to your Steam / Origin A/c they will be binded to your A/c forever. You may share your A/c with other persons and one can download as much time as he wants from Steam / Origin.

But simultaneously only one session of login is allowed on both.

So you better give the key to friend and ask him to create a Steam / Origin A/c and redeem the key.

So if you want to give someone a key, you don't redeem that.

See, there is two tier of the bundle, one is Pay what you want above $1, you will get all the games except BF3, Sims3, C&C and Populas.
Another is above average. You will get all the games, including BF3 etc
The average amount keeps changing. Currently it is $4.92 and when OP posted it was $4.80. (I guess I dont have to explain how average is calculated.) So if you want to get all the games, you have to pay .01 extra of the average amount written in that site. .i.e $4.95(it was $4.80 when OP posted it, dont get confused with the title).

It is best to pay $5, as you will not loose much. and yes 5*68 Rs will be deducted from your card.

1. Games are pre-selected based on amount. If you enter below 5$, you get 6 games, above 5$ you get 10 games.
2. If you don't want SIMS 3 but you want BF3, pay 5$, gift the SIMS 3 key to someone else. You need Steam as well as Origin account. Better to have both.

Regarding BoB Card charges, they don't charge anything extra. Just the conversion rate.

The origin bundle is over now, Dont end up buying the Humble Comedy Bundle assuming you are buying origin bundle. You cannot buy the origin bundle anymore.

You mean all humble bundles since it's inception?? (It doesnt seem true for the normal humble bundle, but for the new weekly one it's BTA price is more than the average.)
The humble bundle has another change, the bonus games are now BTA-only. You cant buy non-BTA early and still expect to get them :-(

The humble bundle has another change, the bonus games are now BTA-only. You cant buy non-BTA early and still expect to get them .

Inception of humble bundle is like 2011 sometime. So average for the weekly bundle is the average price of every humble bundle sold from then. That's why it's quite high.
