The new pentium processor is cheaper and has 4 threads like the i3 series, so it might be worth getting

The choice now is either the Pentium or the i5. Very little point in getting an i3.

^^ Agree. The only difference between pentium G4560 and i3 7100 is 400Mhz base clock speed. I know that much is somehow noticeable but also consider that i3 is almost priced double. Also, the i3 has better graphics (HD Graphics 630 compared to 610) but it only matters if you are not going to install a seperate graphics card.

If you have the budget, get 4 cored i5.

4 cored i5 is very important now, IMO

OP what is your budget & purpose of PC? Please specify that ?

So that we can suggest what is best for you.

Intel Pentium G4560 -2 cores with HT -4500
Intel Core i3 7100 -2 physical cores 2 virtual cores -9500
Intel Core i3 6100 -2 physical cores 2 virtual cores -8500

The price difference between the G & i3 are based on nomenclature & capability.

In gaming the difference is not much but few fps.
In tests like single or multiple threaded there is a significant difference.

I suggest either Skylake i3 or Kabylake i3 since they are significantly faster than Pentium G 4560.

PS: It all depends upon your budget & purpose. So do reveal your intentions so that we can suggest accordingly.

Man you are so wrong.

I3 6100 isn't much faster than G4560
At best only 5% faster
Intel Pentium G4560: Kaby Lake's Real Gift - TechSpot
But then you also have the price difference where the G4560 is HALF THE COST OF I3 6100

So recommending i3 over G4560 to anyone nowadays is just wrong considering the price and perf difference and the fact that you can put the remaining money for a better GPU

Whatever terminology you prefer to use for Core i3 can be used for Pentium G4560 and vice versa. :)

Agreed.
It looks like that dude is trying hard to sell the i3 CPUs
I get it, no one is buying the new i3 CPUs... Intel made a huge mistake by pimping up the G4560 LMAO

G4560 will eat out the i3 sales.
