Hi,

A colleague of mine bought a new phone for his kid. Made a new gmail account, paused history, locations everything in myaccount settings. Opened YT and there is this

Any idea how to disable these kinda ads? Why in the world is even Google pushing these ads?
Is there a way to install two YTVanced apps in a phone? Many clone apps don't clone this one. 1 did but it is full of ads itself.

Thanks
Desmond

Remove the pics and then we can discuss. Just describing the ads would be enough, no need to post something that can be considered NSFW here.

First one can be considered NSFW but later ones,I think spoiler tag is enough. Even for first one spoiler tag should be enough as it is no more NSFW than some Indian mainstream TV content.

Yeah, but for Netflix you have to give a credit card number to access the content.

Anyway, FWIW, YouTube ads are generally based on search history and other data they collect. Perhaps try disabling targeted ads. It's also possible that the data is associated with the IP address which is now associated with your router.

He got a brand new sim and internet is being used with that sim itself. He doesn't have wifi. Targeted ads already paused as mentioned above.

Removed as full screen, should I remove the thumbnails too or add a NSFW tag?

Yes.
What was the age set in that newly created gmail id? If the kid is below 13 then install youtube kids app.

IDK about the age. Is YT kid streaming comedy shows too?

Try the app for a day or two to see what it offers.

Other than using paid clone app for removing ads,I don't think it is possible to do it in a free way with no ads.

Bro YTvanced is a modded version of YT. He has installed it for the kids due to the ads but it is somewhat complicated. Now using 2 YTVanced apps in one phone is a different question.

YT Vanced should take care of everything. Why do you want a 2 of them?

Yes I know that is why I said it is not possible to do it in a free way because installing two same apps of any kind will need an app cloning app.

The one that you said worked but with lots of ads, there should be an option to pay & remove the ads.

Actually no they were solely based on apps with no in apps purchases. Let's wait for goku and anupam to suggest one.

One method to remove ads is to use Adaway or Blokada. Ask him why he needs two instances of youtube app. He can just use a browser instead.

You could also use Newpipe, which is a fully non-Google YouTube app.

Which phone is this? Some chinese phones, like Redmi 8 new versions, are pushing many invasive ads.
Secondly, Youtube have a paid version where you can subscribe to Youtube premium and get rid of ads.
Third, as mentioned YT Vanced is a modded version which you can use to remove ads without paying.

Personally I pay google to get rid of ads on 6 accounts at once. The family plan. Its Rs 189 per month. Never seen an ad in a year.

I also thought about it but the app is official youtube app & ads inside it are solely controlled by google I believe.

New M31. New Jio Sim. Chrome is disabled. Only Samsung browser. He took extended screenshots, had to crop them to zoom in on these.
Here's what I conclude, ads personalization in the newly created google id is turned off. Maybe this is the reason for these kinda ads, keeping in mind that he must have selected some random year with age 18+. Even if that's the case never thought Skynet would stoop so low to rake in those $$$$

Brave has inbuilt adblock. Won't show any ads in youtube.
How will that help in controlling ads in youtube app or do you mean to say to use browser & not app.

Seems good. @billubakra I second this option,I have noticed that on youtube app the frequency of ads is much more than browser version using some type of ad blocker.

He has installed YTVanced in the new phone. Already using the same in his phone, though wanted a clone of this app. Reason one for personal usage so suggestions are also kinda the personal videos-comedy, action etc. The second for work/news purposes. Any clone app or similar app like that of YTVanced?
Tried newpipe as suggested above. It ain't good.

Same happening for me. On android 10.
Even adaway not blocking it.
You found solution?
On android 9 ads were nullified. Only video ads were there..

Found solution..
For rooted and xposed installed devices..
Use this module (not app)
YouTube AdAway
*forum.xda-developers.com/xposed/modules/app-t2547316
*repo.xposed.info/module/ma.wanam.youtubeadaway
Works on any official YouTube versions..

@billubakra Edited your post to add spoiler tag, don't want this pic to popup on somebody's screen especially nowadays when most are working from home. But I have to say you need to at least use some editing in paint to draw some black lines over cuss words/images for such images when posting.

It depends a lot on locality. I get "obscene" ads too sometimes in home town.

I have two permanent solutions:

1. Use an ad blocker such as Blokada (for non-root phones) or AdAway (for rooted phones).
2. Use an alternative youtube app such as Newpipe or Skytube. I personally use Newpipe.

Edit: Updated thread title for clarity.

They won't do shit. People in other forums are reporting banners which will make all banners posted here look like saints.

I doubt that it has to do something with location. Check xda or other sites people are getting these ads almost everywhere in India.

These must be due to some sort of malware / adware / modified apk / modified android OS or something. IMO There is very little chance this is google's doing.

I would suggest a factory reset.

No, it is because of the ad provider itself. Desperate people who've never been on the internet are trying to find stuff on youtube. This creates an opportunity to push such ads and these in turn affects everyone with an Indian IP address.

sorry but adaway does not suppress in app ads. And blokada will be heavy on battery usage due to vpn network. Instead buying vpn seems better choice.
I have adaway which does not block YouTube ads.

Surprisingly, I also got those dating aps ad when I reset device (clean flash).
What I did was simply reset add personalization.

AdAway uses a patched hosts file to block and domains. This it needs to be updated from time to time as as domains change. That's probably what's happening. Otherwise, AdAway blocks all ads including the banner ads in apps and YouTube video ads.

Android 10 is not that good, you get new features but you may not like it. I hope Android R will not disappoint.
Downgrading to Android 9 seems good option for blocking ads.
AdAway was working fine on Android 9 for in app ads for YouTube but in Android 10 YouTube ads are aggressive.

I "think" it has to do with the oems/os. I have also not seen those kinda ads in my oneui. Yt in my friends phone is full of it. They are using bugplus, oppo and stuff. I might be wrong.

2 more things: These ads seem to only appear on youtube app. Can people confirm this ? Second: As someone who searches for ahem SFW images. As in non-nude stuff on google Images, I can say that google algorithms are extremely extremely good at identifying NSFW from sfw images. I still feel its unlikely for such ads to slip google. Modded apps, comprised OS, are my prime suspects. Who knows it may have come modified from the store..

@TigerKing I saw your deleted post so your idea does seem probable. Jio is no doubt used in a major way for watching pron so maybe google algorithm is tailoring ads depending on accessing network behaviour. I don't have a jio connection to test but I checked with local cable isp & airtel 4g with no difference in ads(aka no inappropriate ads).

Yes.
I was checking ads on wifi and mobile internet.
But I already installed AdAway, so deleted the post.
Surprisingly from 2 days I was not getting any new dating app ads. Only 1 banner ad on top of homepage on YouTube app.
I think those inappropriate ads appearing because I flashed new ROM a week back and set Google account.
It's just confusing.
Maybe AdAway not updating host or something wrong with the list etc etc.
