Intel Core 2 Duo 1.86 GHz

Is there any one who used it? please tell me how it performs.

Does any one have any idea of the price range of this processor at Kolkata?

Thanks.

A

Core2duo is the current performance leader in current cpu market. But if you are budget conscious, better go for AMD X2 as the starting price of 2GHz X2 is Rs.3k and Core2duo E6300 1.86 GHz is Rs. 7850/- and Core2Duo E4300 1.8 GHz is Rs.5k

For the price of c2d E6300, you will get AMD Dual core processor and mother board with powerful Nvidia 6150 chipset.

The performance gain over X2 3600+ isn't worthy for 4k extra bucks.

Thank you for your input my friend.

Please tell me exact model of the AMD X2 processor. And if you could, please let me have a link where I can have a comparative look to the feature set of both the processor.

Thank you again.

IF you are going with E6300 1.86Ghz...better pay 200 more to get E6320 which has double cache of 4MB

This is the review of AMD Athlon X2 3600+ (socket AM2).

Take a look at the reviews as E6300 is used for the benchmark comparison tests.

The current generation of X2's are one of the best overclockers.

There are two versions of CPU in that test.

1) X2 3600+ running at factory clocked 2GHz speed
2) X2 3600+ overclocked to 2.6Ghz, which gave better results than C2D.

I have Atlon 64 (single core) 3000+ CPU. It's default clock speed was 1.8Ghz and I am running it @ 2.47GHz for more than a year on stock cooling and it rocks.

In some tests, it scored better than Pentium D dual core proccy

Hello ambandla

Thank you again.

One thing I should tell you that I do not intend to overclock my CPU. I shall primarily use it for Video editing and Multimedia content development, and may be occasional Game Play.

A

hmm. Okay If you do lot of Video editing and multimedia content development, Forget about price and get C2D

and yes. Better get E6320 as that 2MB extra cache is definitely worthy for m/m content creation tasks.

Do you have any idea about the price difference between E6300 and E6320?

And secondly could you please clarify why the knowledge of my usage pattern/requirement suddenly changed your decision?

And thank you so much for being so prompt.

Core 2 Duo Out performs AMD X2

A

Simple. Multimedia content creation is always heavy on CPU and C2D is far better than AMD X2 in Floating point and Vector Execution operations, which are essential for m/m editing tasks.

For normal day to day tasks, X2 is better as it has better value for money. But for tasks like Multimedia content creation or video editing tasks, C2D is the way to go.

E6320 should be somewhere around 8k-8.5k

Thank you so much ambandla and I must tell that you put down your logic quite unambiguously so my doubts are driven out. Unfortunately my budget is quite restricted.

The following config I have decided which will cost me around 20000/-.

1. CPU: E6300- 7850/-
2. MB: Intel Original - 3500/-
3. 1GB Transcend DDR- 2300/-
4. 450W Power Supply- 750/-
5. 160GB SATA- 2500/-
6. Cabinet- 700/-

You are most welcome to comment.

E6320 is Rs.8000/-. Go for it.

Coming to Motherboard, Go for Intel P965 chipset based models.

got this from other post in digit:
Intel P965 Express Chipset -
Asus P5B-E Rs.8500
Asus P5B DLX Rs.11500
Gigabyte GA-965P-DS3 Rs.8800
Gigabyte GA-965P-DQ6 Rs.11800
MSI P965 Neo2 Rs.5600
MSI P965 Platinum Rs.9700
========================
Asus/Gigabyte/MSI boards are always better than Intel boards. They have more features and deliver much performance.

Forgot to mention, Go for Kinston or Transcend 1GB DDR2-667Mhz Ram. Price is somewhere around Rs. 1900

Thanks

Forgot to mention the RAM is DDR2 and of 533 MHz Bus speed.

The board is based on P945 chipset and it is Intel Original and I believe has on board graphics. Unfortunate 965 will stretch my budget way beyond, 'cause it is already stretched beyond its limit

A

hehe. okay. NP. But even for P945, explore asus and gigabyte options. You will get better board @ lower price.

yeah get asus or gigabyte boards those r better compared to intel original stuff....

The current price of E6300 is Rs 6000!!!

Asus is one of the OEM manufacturers of Intel Original motherboards

Asus selling it's own mobo's is different from manufacturing boards for Intel.

It's all the spec's and features that matter

Gotta agree on this ..

Huh ??? E6300 will simply beat the crap out of a 3600+ anyday ..

The current price of E6300 is Rs 6000!!!

Can't Disagree more...I just came from market and the new one's price [with 4MB L2 cache] is 7850/-.

Ok guys, now could you please summaries or provide me a link where I can check the prices [applicable in India] and specs of the Mother Boards? A comparative study report will be great to look at.

Thanks everyone for their inputs.

hey.....

can 3000 + overclock to such an extent with stock cooling.....

at that settings how much is the temperature at 2.47Ghz....
i have 3000+ with ASUS A8NE mobo which is good for overclocking n stable too ...

is 2.47 Ghz possible...???

There are people who overclocked to 2.6GHz.

Mine is Gigabyte K8n51-gmf9, nvidia 6100 chipset based board.

Note sure how stable Asus A8N-E is but this board is rock solid. I play NFS carbon for hours and it doesn't crash at all.

temp never went above 55, thanks to the zebronics geforce2 cabinet and Cooler master thermal paste

Hi

I have been going through the following review here: *www.lostcircuits.com/cpu/low_e/14.shtml
It seemed quite detail in nature, and surprisingly it has placed AMD X2 3800+ as a better choice than C2D E6300 keeping in mind that the high price difference does not really gave an equivalent performance boost.

Any comment [based on logic than sentiment, prejudice, bias or dogma... I mean....].

Huh ? How is it different ? Infact Intel Original Boards have very high build quality.Only -ve against them is lack of bling bling accesories and OC features, qualitywise they are excellent.
If you are not aware, have a look at Intel D979XBX2 aka Bad Axe2 and you will realise what i mean.

i have overcloacked mine to around 230 x 9 = 2070 Mhz... thats at stock cooling... at this i have played FEAR for hours.... and temp never went accross 53*...
but i want to know whats the max to which i can reach with STOCK cooling... room is not Air conditioned (and i remain my cabinet open with a table fan faced towards it that helps in cooling)

checked some more options.

Try this:

AMD X2 4600+ along with ASUS M2NPV-VM. The mobo should cost you around 4k and proccy is somewhere near 7k

1) C2D E6320 with Intel 965 chipset mobo

2) AMD X2 4600+ with Asusu m2npv-vm

option 2 has better graphics power and option one has better cpu. Overall both are pretty much identical in terms of churning out frames in video encoding.

afaik, You can go upto 2.5GHz with stock cooling. BUt you have to bring down memory frequency, loosen memory timings to attain stability.

Hello ambandla

Thank you very much for your very helpful contribution. I have decided to go for C2D E6320 [as you earlier suggested] with DG965RYKT mobo fom Intel. As I foud out that C2D performs far better when it comes to multi tasking over X2, and as you correctly pointed out in one of your earlier posts, it will be better if I go C2D as AV work involves heavy multitasking and it is quite taxing for the CPU.

I hope you shall agree with my final view.
