Hey all.

I am confused between buying iPad 2019 Model 10.2 Inch or Samsung S5e tablet 64 GB. Both are available for 27K. Which one should I consider .

My main purpose is that this tablet should last long and should be powerful to last at least next 4 years. This will be required for video calls and conferences.

what do you suggest

That's what is troubling me. One has better features, but other has better life and quality. But any idea how long will the 2019 model last?

2015 ipad upgradable to latest version of ipados. Do the math. 32 GB vs 64 GB is a bummer though. How are you going to use it ? Do you have NAS/Unlimited wifi to stream stuff to it ?

I would go for iPad. I have the ipad 2017 32gb. For streaming and video conference 32gb is good enough. OS updates are regular so far. Battery life is amazing especially standby.

I can also consider iPad 8th gen. (2020)

Main reason for this poll is what will last longer-ipad or samsung tab.

Added I need it only for some time to solve my conferencing needs. After that it will not be used much. Maybe once in a while or on trips.

I would say go for old iPads(as apple has good support) but higher storage(64-128) I have 16gb 9.7inch iPad Air 16gb model Its great in every aspect very snappy,Retina display Awesome battery but low storage.I only use it for manga, comics and netflix streaming though.
So get any iPad 2017 and above but more storage.

The iPad will get more updates than S5e, which is already on android 11 & not sure if it will get 12.

Storage, OLED & some conveniences of OS will favour S5e, but iPad OS has better apps & a lot of restrictions of iOS have been removed (like File manager). So you have to take the call. For performance, better pick iPad (2020).

Also keep in mind that for ipad/devices you will have to pay to get some apps/functionality compared to android where free alternatives are more easily available in playstore.

Controversial statement, but iPhone fans are called iSheeps for a reason, they blindly buy Apple.

Yes, you can use mouse + KB with iPad, just check some iPadOS video from a year ago when it was released or some recent comparison between iPad OS vs iOS vs maybe android.

Also, I just saw geek bench results, in which Samsung scored 335sc and 1403mc, whereas ipad 8th gen scored 1111sc and 2436mc which more than double of what samsung gives. Will this be felt in performance also? Like how much does these scores tell us about real life performance?

You have to use the product to actually know the difference. These score matters but not much. You have to use the iPad and apple product to know the difference.A 2gb ram apple product = 8 gb android.
Since you havent used any apple products i will advice you to go to a apple showroom and try it out.Same for samsung too.

Does iPad support whatsapp ? I will be usi g my work sim on it. Although the sim will be plugged in another device. But as I get flooded with messages in whatsap, so I would prefer to seperate my home and work sim.

I think it should, you dont even need sim in the device for whatsapp to work.. I think you cannot recieve sms or send sms, you have to use the sim in separate device..

EDIT : I just checked, no official support for whatsapp on ipad.. too bad

I dont like Apple products in general because of the restrictions but one product I have been using for years is Apple iPad. Other tablets just cant compete with it specially when it comes to longevity. 3 years later, it will still be relevant with latest iPadOS while Android tables with Android 11 will feel ancient when Android 13/14 will come out.

The only thing which you can do after inserting a SIM in an iPad is use mobile data on it. No calling, no SMS, just cellular data. Im not sure if it has changed recently or with introduction of iPadOS.

WhatsApp official app is not available on iPad but you can use other Apps (standalone apps) which use Whatsapp Web version in App form.

iPad vs Android tablet IMO depends strictly on what will you be using it for. For video conferencing, I think iPad should be far better than Android tablets but do keep in mind that you wont be able to use cellular calling and SMS in it.

Get the 2020 iPad. A12 is quite a bit more powerful than A10 and the price difference isn't that much. I picked up a 32gb WiFi model for 26900 back in October. There are zero lags and freezes and standby battery life is amazing. The OS definitely is restrictive. I have yet to find a good alternative to Tachiyomi Manga reader and if you are into emulators then it's going to be a major annoyance as Apple keeps patching all the exploits that are used to make these things work. But a bit of digging around and you can do stuff. For example there is an app called iSH that is basically Alpine Linux in a VM running on your iPad. I mess around with it.
Also the 8th gen comes with 20w charger as opposed to the 10 or 15w one in the older iPads.

Go for iPad eyes closed.
I've been using Ipad Pro 10.5 (2017) and never faced any issues. Battery is amazing and the processing power of A series chipset. Games look eye candy. Watching movies on it is a real treat to eyes.

Even if you buy a year old model you won't be disappointed as Apple optimizes its Apps for old gen version very well. And the reason for that is the Apple eCosystem to its customers.

Do research thoroughly about lightning port accessories. What works, what doesn't. Even the simplest of the tasks can be a real PITA if you're not prepared for it.

I have never used any lightning port accessory myself so I can't say but I have heard enough people bitching about things not working. Caution advised.

^Apple says it supports hdmi.thats why I am asking which third-party ones are supported. This is indeed part of research. :)

Make sure your main computer has a Type C port as the charging cable is USB C to lightning and not USB A to lightning. This might be obvious but my old PC didn't have a type C port. You only need to do ITunes sync once via the cable then you can enable WiFi Sync.

NO, the newer iPad OS has got different market. In previous versions when iOS was used, it was supported. Basically one could download iPhone apps back then. Now the cellular model just used for internet purpose.

Now finally I have got everything in place. I want to buy it today or tomorrow itself, but I am confused where to buy.

I am not open for online buying.

I have Pluton apple store, Unicorn apple store Reliance digital near me. Now Reliance digital says they will restock in May and so does not have that model.

Unicorn and Pluton do have that model , but reviews of unicorn store says that they are not trustable, and reviews of Pluton says that they overprice and also force the customer to buy insurance etc. Alongwith.

Both of them are country wide chains but I am totally confused from where to buy as I don't want to risk anything.

You can buy directly from Apple online. Also if you know any student, use their Student ID to get Student discount. Student discount in offline stores too. I don't know the details. So do your research. Which city are you located ?

I would prefer offline, so online would be last thing to do.

I am in Chandigarh.

Edit :- I checked apple online, they will be shipping it by 18 May, that will be too long for me.

Disabling it directly also removes the download folder.

Yes, that is actually lightning cable of apple devices.
*en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lightning_(connector)

And it supports data transfer. You will have to select the "trust this device" popup in ipad to make it to work.
You won't be able to view each & every folder in PC like Android. As apple is more restrictive in file system access.

Figured it out. This is a problem with asus vivobooks, the usb c port does not work with apple lightning to USB c adapter. I had to buy a usb-c to usb a adapter and connect it through the standard port.

Here I am facing a problem, I want to buy an app from the appstore, but when I am adding a payment method, it is declining my card, and not giving any reasons about it. I have a debit card, from MasterCard.

I checked online and everything, there is no problem with the card as I use it regularly. It just comes up in red text "debit card declined, try updating your payment method" I have not added any other method also.

I see. I will enable it and then try again. Is this new norm applicable after Feb this year? I actually bought some software online back in Jan , from Adobe and didn't have this problem. Maybe they are processing transactions in india.

If its SBI, most likely it won't work. For private bank's card, enabling international transaction from netbanking will do the job.

Those were old times, nowadays most regular sbi debit cards can be enabled for international transactions though safest bet is visa or mastercard global card but heard that even classic variants can be enabled in this way.

I generally have some or the other issue with SBI, so I rely on private banks for a more hassle-free exp.

That is of course a better option, sbi debit card is only to be used as last resort for international transactions.
