Is Optimus 4X HD worth buying now ???

Hi, I need a new phone for around 20k, and HS18 is giving away the LG Optimus 4X HD for 21k today.
Should I buy it or wait for new phones ? My only concern is if there are updates or custom roms available for it, as I don't want to be stuck on ICS for next few years.
Also how is HS18's service ?

Get it eyes closed dude, as for updates, jelly bean will be coming for 4X HD, LG has announced that, and for custom roms: Optimus 4X HD Android Development - xda-developers

I'd have gotten it and cancelled my LG L9 order, its just that HS18 does not ship to kolkata, get it before stock runs out.

About HS18 service, it has got mixed review, though they do not screw with pricey components like mobiles, worse thing that can happen is that you'll get a refund after few weeks. Go for it.

the recent launch of Galaxy Grand at 22k shows what Samsung & similarly HTC and Sony will offer you at this price. Don't expect 4X HD like spec from others for at least another year at this price point.

Sony offers great mobile spoils it by the low battery or non expandable memory, as per grand almost the whole phone in POS

It's an Jaw dropping deal, so just get it before stock runs out

Don't give it a second thought. You will not get a better phone for Rs 21K than the 4X right now.

I think its still there(L9). Costs 14940. For GAWD sake explain to DAD that its the BEST.

Camera, no issue but not upto the mark in terms of pic quality, but antenna? Well, I am posting some pics soon, it catches signal like a hot chick, full bars out of the box and the GPRS worked flawlessly, which ever did on my Nokia 5800, just tried it, so its beyond groovy.

^^ lol. Some myth, i guess. I used a LG mobile around 2004-05 and after that i moved to Samsung, Nokia, Motorola etc. But still i would say, i like that LG mobile a lot, because of it's good screen(first color screen mobile at that time

), nice reception, even though we had least towers. May be they screwed up with Android initially but it is not that bad, compared to Sammy. In terms of design, even though they are bit odd, it is still good looking compared to Sammy IMO

Hmm, L9 and G launched two months back, so they probably won't replace those, it could be some high end phones with dual kraits, and the L7 Dual to take on Samsung grand, maybe even low end sets. Optimus 4xHD is still in a pretty sweet spot, maybe a phablet?

I Asked for Mobile

I have used LG C2500 for about 5-6 years ..its my first semi-smartphone and its as sturdy as nokia. So imo lg is as good as sammy,sony,nokia.

One X? How much is your budget?

In reviews it is written that 4X HD has pathetic sound quality (in ear). Not in the class of flagship phones.

That problem is due to the music app, it works well if you install some other app for playing music.

So what is the best price for this phone?

18.5k street price, if you dig deeper or if you are lucky.

That's for the L9, Optimus 4X still goes for 24k local price.

24k is truly great for this phone but in the end an ICS phone with no fixed date of JB update.

That problem is due to the music app, it works well if you install some other app for playing music.

Optimus 4x is an amazing phone under 25k, companion core keeps power consumption down, and quad cores allow you to play almost all games, now you might have some lag on a few(a very few) hd games due to gpu unoptimization, but most games will run fine, plus the battery is huge.

Another option is Sony Xperia SL, while not as powerful or large as Optimus 4x sony has a better cam and would be more compatible across all games.

Cyanogen is out with a bunch of fixes and another few roms are out as well. Optimus 4XHD has a blooming development, unlike L9 which has none yet.

Xperia SL stands nothing in comparison to Optimus 4X HD performance. Cyanogen mod is good but the warranty will blow away. Also mods keep some glitches and battery issues.

Yeah, in terms of performance Optimus 4x should be right up there with One X and the only chipset that can beat the Tegra 3 is dual or quad core kraits.

I would still say to buyer to wait for couple of months and get Nexus 4 16GB for 25k.

Yes and zero warranty, would you risk 25k on no warranty? I wouldn't, for me 10k is the limit, I can buy a Pantech Burst, if it fails, ok, 8k out, if a nexus fails, that's 25k down the drain and also there aren't many shops(if at all) that can repair a complex device like Nexus 4.

^^ Yup. I wouldn't spend more than 10k on no-warranty product. Still 4x is my preferred choice in that price. Reason being is, no good alternative and SL is dual core, so performance of 4x is good(*www.phonearena.com/phones/compare/Sony-Xperia-SL,LG-Optimus-4X-HD/phones/7426,6848) and to me, it appeals as best VFM phone.

No dude, all Nexus phones will not come with no or dealer warranty. Third party services like serve pro is par to manufacture warranty.
And don't forget rooting, flashing, custom ROM pulls of the manufacture warranty too. It's the individual choice in the end.
