Its good PR for them and publicity too. It attracts non-Geeky people, read Blondes, towards the company and their products.

what good is the s/w of a million dollar company when it cant detect pen drive viruses?

Malicious content can easily infect windows ( or even mac or linux ) if you visit & download pirate/warez/crack sites a lot & use softs shared by them. But Did that reduced of visiting of those sites & or downloading those contents.
