Recently my father was working in unix with the help of Linspire linux.. But now he is not able to access to MS Windows XP, which was loaded before.. Can anybody explain me what exactly happened and how can it be avoided.. He was made to reinstall windows XP again...

Well nothing sounds clear here. Was the reinstallation really needed? Maybe grub didn't have entry/ proper entry for windows. That's why you weren't able to boot. Or else windows partition may have got formatted. And stay away from linspire. It's as different from linux as windows is. If you want something similar and easy better go for FC or SUSe.
