what's better than SLAX?

Slax has problem such as outdated modules.

If you want to use it as your own portable OS then either go for PC Linux OS MiniMe or Dream Linux.

I m using PCLinux OS MiniMe on my External HD. It boots from the HD & takes about 2 GB of harddisk space with swap partition included. With latest packages installed Via synaptic it is a total of 2.5 GB HD space.

Or you can use Zenwalk Core & install only those packages which u require keeping the size small.

it is expected that some pendrive's life gets reduced by using linux distros?due to freq read/write :?

i dint exactly mean only linux OS... any software will also do that... which does simultaneous read and write operation alternatively.

^Is it ok to use portable apps which are optimised for pen drive?

^^ any app which does freq read and write ops is detrimental to the flash drive's life.
