Huawei may be bricking modded devices in an attempt to kill community development

I would like to get a statement at least from Huawei on why they are doing it? Security is one thing but still, the users who root their phones are responsible for the consequences.

yuss, free paytm moolah so who cares amirite

I never dissed Huawei in the past, I thought they were a respectable brand with enough RND to make their own processors but this is unforgivable lol.
Tata Huawei, you will not be missed.

In order to copy Apple, they have to copy whatever stupid restrictions iOS has too. Many users bricked their repaired iphones after iOS update.

Their phones were also bricked when they got their touch id, hardware, replaced from a non CRapple store.

Because someone got it fixed at much cheaper cost, Apple didn't get their cut. They rage bricked those phones.

I wonder what would happen if Huawei/Honor did the same kind of marketing that they are doing here on a forum such as XDA.

XDA has extremely strict newbie user policy. Its impossible for them to pull off something like this in XDA

Honor is a sponsor for XDA IIRC. That's one of the reasons XDA is posting Huawei/Honor articles.

Wow damn, I never knew that.
They sponser a development forum and they cut off development support from their phones.

Their PR team is in a limbo. I think top management doesn't wants customers to keep extending their phones' lives beyond official support period.

Wow, really? That's really pointless then since their policies appear to be in direct contradiction to this.

I don't think so.

It’s no secret that Honor, a sub-brand of Huawei, sponsors XDA for certain content. Anytime that happens, the content is submitted under the “A Word From Our Sponsors” which are handled entirely by the XDA Administrative staff – not the XDA Portal team. The XDA Portal team does not deal with sponsored content in any way. Every time the Portal covered news related to Huawei or Honor, it has always been because we chose to do so and not because Huawei or Honor asked us to do so.

They used to support custom ROM development & had an Open Kirin project. Something changed in the management a few months ago apparently due to which they are taking a U-turn.

Well, looks like they want sheep, not customers.

They even admitted to cheating in benchmark apps.
Huawei was caught cheating on phone benchmarks (updated)

The new management might not be suitable for the task, who knows. It is a bad time for Huawei & its users for sure.

Management people just want profit, no care about customers.

I used to think Honor phones can be a good option because of treble support but then whole bootloader unlocking fiasco happened.

What they don't care about is that people will switch over to other options if Honor can't meet their expectations.

Not everyone can be Apple. Apple is a genius at marketing who doesn't care about its customers & still makes loads of profits.

Caring about customers can actually help the company, so does community support. Many power users buy Xiaomi devices even though they hate MIUI because they know it has good dev support.

Going towards profits can be the reason for demise. Sony & HTC, even Blackberry, are good examples. They didn't make their phones competitive enough against other flagships nor did they price it lower, result, very low sales leading to losses.

I went to Oreo but in all oreo roms you cannot use 2 volte sims (Vodafone + Jio), Vodafone doesnt switch to 3G like it used to in Nougat.
