"...More importantly, Jobs and Apple didn’t actually invent the idea of the mouse-driven, design and graphics friendly GUI at all. The real credit for this belongs to a host of people including Ivan Sutherland who produced SketchPad the first (light-pen driven) graphics application in 1963 and Doug Engelbart who produced the first mouse in 1965..."

i haf no time to read long articles, but if my memory is correct then the mouse and GUI were invented at Xerox's Palo alto research center (PARC). apple simply took and concept and developed a better ui and enhanced the mouse's functionality. later bill gates too realised the potential of gui after seeing the mac and adopted it.

ps: i trust my memory! :D

Yeah, I also think InfraredDude is correct. I don't any problem is X copying Y, I don't own the stocks of neither. I just need better products :)

I don't mind others using good products too

And if my memory serves me right, there were already systems with GUI before that. But, Xerox' PARC was the first 'commercial' system with GUI.
