I'm obviously a newbie in linux. But even some experienced guys failed to answer the following question: How to login as root in Mandrake 10.1?? Answers anyone? I have been trying hopelessly for ages!

Select failsafe in boot menu. Then type init 1 as option in init select. You can login as root.

Open Konsole (similar to DOS prompt in Windows)
Type su - (Press Enter Key)
Now it would ask for the password , so type in the root password (press Enter)
again. Now you have logged in a root. You can open any application from the
Konsole itself , for eg., type 'konqueror' (Enter). Now Konqueror would be opened with full access to all the folders, even System files.

Don't ever login as root. Use su in terminal if you want to use root account. That's the safe way out.
