In this thread I'll explain why you should NEVER buy micromax products. Step By step description of my journey to hell:

1. Bought micromax funbook last june I think.

2. Ran like a beast for 2 months(played 1080p h264 to hdtv, what more can one want for 6k? Played ALL games). I was very happy.

3. In third month started showing battery issues, would shut down @ 20% charge, no software tweak fixed it. Thought one time issue

4. Went and got battery replaced, took over a month.

5. Got the issue fixed, FOR A MONTH.

6. Problem started again, I let it run, after a week or so started to shut down @ 80% charge :punch:

7. Point to be noted I always used USB charger this time.

8. Battery replaced, issue fixed.

9. After another few weeks, again started showing issues :banghead:

10. Battery replaced, AGAIN.

11. Problem started creeping up after a month :pullhair:

Current state: Running it plugged to wall, I don't care anymore now, also when I went for a battery change this time they f'n removed the service center to a distant part of the city where I can't even reach in an hour. I don't give a damn anymore, I learnt the costliest lesson in my life by wasting 6k, never ever would I use another micromax product.

I asked them to replace tab, they said its micromax policy and they can't do anything about it, now maybe if I was a 7 feet tall intimidating Goliath I could have choked them with the charger cord and get a new tab, since I am not, its the end of the line for me :yuck:

I think the issue lies with the power delivery system and any new battery placed in the tab would go corrupt after a few weeks or so, issue can't be fixed by replacing the battery, I told them that, and their expression was:
*d1ij7zv8zivhs3.cloudfront.net/assets/6313995/view_large/ERMAHGERD_-_Funky_Gestures.jpg?1348510595

I was also planning on going to consumer court but since I didn't keep a xerox of the challans I am stuck, and I don't have the energy to go at them any more :stamp:

PS: My rma was handled all three times by Cell-O service in Chandni Chowk, kolkata, until last time they closed micromax service, said micromax products were having too much issues, specially the tablets, hence they stopped servicing the tablets all together, and then directed me to other service centers, one of which was not accepting tablets either, due to too much issues, as they said :talk2hand:

Thats the problem with Indian Companies...they just want to cash on foreign trends, by providing us cheap alternative of best products and no support what so ever for their product,

As if a consumer buys their product they are on their own...!

Well, its not completely my fault, you see some people in forums(in other forums as well) was going gaga over funbook, and their unit is still flawlessly performing, its just that a bad batch got out and its been dogging me ever since, for those whose funbooks are doing good its absolute vfm, for guys like us, its hell.

So buying mmx is like playing roulette, and I never plan to gamble ever.

As you said, it's like gambling. If it works, you are lucky, otherwise, don't even think about getting it to service center. Here in Bangalore, it is really scary. Friend tried to replace his Canvas A2 due to battery issue and they said, no replacement, only we will service it for you. Same as in your case, now it is over 10 days and he is waiting for his phone.

He he he happy to learn that i am not alone.:rofl:
I too faced the same issue. But in my case i never went back.Their CC is very bad one of their representative was telling a guy "Wo aapka problem hai hamara nahi" when that guy was requesting them to hurry up with their service.

That service center was filled with complaint from micromax products mostly(They also service blackberry).

In anger i gave that B@$tard a piece of my mind infront of everyone.Yes used all type of profanity that came to my mind.In the end added nothing personal to you just repeat whatever i told you to your boss.Thats what i think of your company.

Threw the piece in the garbage bin infront of them and bought galaxy s3 next day.

But now i think this is not what i wanted.

the problem is that international companies like sony, samsung maintain very high levels of Quality control, so defects are < 1%. but micromax sources its products from china, and has no dedicated manufacturing facility. i.e. micromax gets the phones manufactured via a 3rd party and then rebrands and sells them... because they dont sell enough phones. thats whats the problem is with micromax. If micromax were to shift to a facility where they can have their own QC and do their own manufacturing... meaning 100% owned and operated company plant, i am sure no micromax RMA will almost be equal to ... if not around the same as international brands.

i think within 2-3 years from now... micromax and international brands will be at par.

Yeah they will, remember spice mobile? They still exist, we are a third world country and cheap sets will always find its place here, micromax is doing nothing but giving a brand to the Chinese sets that had been flooding our markets for ever, remember NOKLA?

Moreover out of 12 months be prepared to use the product for 6 months only. That's because even to replace a simple battery these idiots takes 30 days. Therefore one month the product stays with you and in another month it stays in the service center.

You cant complain considering the price you are paying for their products . Yes , its gamble : sometimes it may not give problems and sometimes it will ..

I have Ninja 4. I was/am aware of the cheap quality that MMX products have and i am okay with it if i face problems in future.
If you expect high quality products with superb after sales service , then you should be ready to pay more,,

People are attracted to MMX mainly because of its price
Now let me you the mentality of Some People
Le person goin to the market
He sees galaxy note and other phablets with dual core/quad core he sees the price and then says leave it.
Then comes accros this A116
He sees 5" screen, quad core-He says wow awesome ill buy it what he forgets is that the quality,CC etc suck!

Yeah they will, remember spice mobile? They still exist, we are a third world country and cheap sets will always find its place here, micromax is doing nothing but giving a brand to the Chinese sets that had been flooding our markets for ever, remember NOKLA?

Give some shops you nokia phone for repair when you get your device back instead of nokia,Nokla will be written

Tell you something, Nokia and Samsung phones are easily repairable post warranty, even from the streets in kolkata has spare, where they will inform you whether you wish original spare or duplicate, in case of display or or spkr, duplicate does fine and can be repaired at dead cheap price.

with Micromax and other cheap brands, its a different story, they (local shops) are afraid to touch saying sir, its too poor in condition in anyway, why repair :p

Ban's over mate. :)

My story is very similar as yours and i'm gonna do what you didn't i.e choke them ( maybe a guillotine or rear naked choke) until they pass out and i don't need that charger cord as a potential close quarter weapon.

Seriously you've identified the issue spot on. Its not the battery but the power supply unit that's damaging every new battery over course of use.
Eventually heating issue too arises once battery gets older.

Changed my battery last month ( took a month before that for RMA) and now again the problems have resurfaced. Yesterday night, it switched off at 45% battery and today at 55%.
Man, i'm really annoyed now. The tab performs good for the price but what's the point of using a tab if you always need to plug it into mains??
The heating issue has also resurfaced again in my case. Should have got something like iberry.

Cilus is also planning to sell off his A87 and he reported that its crashing like hell. So its good to avoid micromax completely.
Its not like a few tabs have problems but all. You would be surprised to see the queue in front of micromax service center here and 90% of them come with a funbook citing the same battery problems.

Something needs to be done and right now ,i know just the thing that needs to be done to fix those guys at the center let alone the tab.

It will be their worst nightmare, the kind that would wake them up in the middle of the night screaming for their mother.

After you choke them to death do come to calcutta, I'll pay for your fare/fooding/lodging+all you can play games, just choke a few of them here to death as well, send them straight to their master(satan as I had mentioned).

We should not always leave these companies, saying the product is cheap...if it stops working after one month its ok......i tell you what its our money we have to put in be it thousand bucks or ten thousand bucks...they should be responsible if they are taking our money.
i bought spice mobile mi-410 for 14k in mid-2011....in oct 2012 it had problem with the power switch...it was working and not even giving any problem besides power button(it was switching on by removing battery and putting it in again)...gave it to spice service center...they kept my phone for 25 days...when i called them they told me they had sent it to main S.S.C....after completion of one month they returned my phone saying its not repairable....heck then why did they kept my phone for so long then if it was not repairable....!
Now the problem is its not even switching on....the set went kaput.....it was out of warranty so im left frustrated....!
This kind servicing companies provide.....we should ban them...they are worse than chinese devices...atleast we know its a risk buying these devices....!

^ after sales service is not on the agenda of any of these new companies. if either of these companies repaired/replaced/refunded the defective products properly, regardless of the loss they might incur, they would be on the good books of customers, they would be trusted and would be considered again. but instead they make you wait for weeks or months, only to tell you it can't be repaired.:-x

@ tkin, vickeybat: I'd suggest escalate this issue. Drop in a mail, separately, @ info[at]micromaxinfo[dot]com. Once, whatever they reply, you'll have a proof for your cause as you've shot in a mail at their customer service. After that, if the customer care cares to resolve the issue, it's ok, else, drop in a complaint at www[dot]core[dot]nic[dot]in, and I'm sure that the issue will be resolved. After getting a thrashing, the CC will automatically call you up to get it resolved.

Though, I have my reservations about these desi companies, I was thinking of the Canvas A116, and Galaxy Grand, MMX being the choice-for it's specs. Thanks, both of you, for this thread, I won't go the MMX way.

Even I had similar experience with Micromax funbook when I got it for my kid, It had charging issues right from the beginning and used to discharge battery completely at 30%-40% levels. The low quality charger they provide did not even last a month and 4-5 months later even the USB charging stopped. Micromax had partnered with Nimbuzz to sell funbook accessories on their e-commerce website Ncarry which has also closed down now. I read somewhere that MMX was charging Rs 650 for that cheap quality charger.

Second surprise came when my kid cracked the screen dropping it on the floor, I spoke to their service center Salora International Ltd, at Bibevadi in Pune about cost of screen glass replacement which they quoted at Rs 3000 and a month to get it replaced. I did not even think of travelling that distance from my home to get it repaired. This company truly does not have anything in terms of quality, I got a used funbook from a friend which is luckily working better than previous one I had. At least lasts for around 5 hours on complete charge now let's see how long this one survives.

IMO Acer Iconia B1 marks entry of at least one credible option in the 8K range for 7 inch tablets, Micromax is surviving on aggressive marketing and flooding products with no guarantee of quality, a colleague from office I know also had a bad experience with a MMX mobile phone while following up with their service center, even though specs for Canvas A116 HD may look very good and lot of people are in fact planning to buy this phone you cannot be sure of the hardware under the hood and beyond whole external branding and packaging these cheap companies do, it's better to spend extra on well known brands and ensure peace of mind.

I read some comments on Canvas A116 HD phone hands on review article which mentioned that If most well known companies are churning out phones and tablets at breakneck speed, that too in an expensive price range what's wrong in investing on a device with similar specs and low cost even in case it does not last long and anyways the next upgrade would be available by then. In case you don't feel cheated for problems encountered after buying the product one can very well go by this strategy of upgrading phones and tablets.

The company is based on Kolkata I think. And without any negative feedback you should not curse the company. All Indian brand were not Micromax.

By changing the title of course, don't want fanatics to spam the forum ;) ;)

He he, you have no idea how frustrated I am, and this issue practically had stopped me from buying cheap stuff, for eg: I want to buy the pantech burst mobile, and my parents are not allowing me, the said get a Note II if you want but no cheap stuff, fml :( :(

Get the note II and appoint one guy to carry it too :D :D :D

Here Micromax is ghost. Once the product gets any problem then the actual struggle begins :D

Is their return policy same for all products?

I have a 400R router, which conked off within a month of purchase.

MMX replaced the product with a new one (however they took almost 3 weeks).

You got lucky as they couldn't repair it onsite, hence you got a replacement, but for stuff that are repairable specially mobiles it would be hell if they can't diagnose the issue correctly.

Thanks mate, You saved my step. Never Bought mx product so no idea.

I was planning to buy a s3 or note 2, actually for my brother, in next week, but my parents are budget conscious after he lost a Xperia S due to theft, not used even for 5 days, all 30k in dirt(bought in june '12)
Thus due to such low price of a116 i got very exited, but stop, no more mmx chinese crap. Reading this whole thread I got all the jyotishi that a15k device will be 50k gamble.

Tommorow I have to tell my father that the company dropped its device

So my digitian friends please suggest me the best device within 30-35k. I prefer S3 over anything for its multi window feature, until android comes with such similar feature.

Thanks again.

Make a new thread, short suggestion: Note II if you can use it, its huge and I for one couldn't get used to it(took demo in store), else SGS III eyes closed.

I looked all over internet for their TV's review and fpr 42" LED TV, they maximum score is like 45/100. Even i will get better mark than this in tougher subject. :D

And the conclusion was

Micromax clearly doesn't offer better build and design, or improved image quality to compel a purchase. Neither is it highly regarded for cutting edge R&D or solid after sales service. The only reason why it would have made sense, is if it were cheap—significantly cheap, to be honest, considering its poor performance. Bottomline? Don't buy this TV unless you stand to get a massive discount. Even then, I'd recommend pulling your couch closer and buying a smaller, but higher quality TV set.

Then they should advertise before buying that their products are of inferior quality and the buyer should not expect after sales service

^^ I guess digit wont do that. When it involves ranting a brand, publishers always are reluctant in publishing that article. If they publish this, that would be the best thing digit doing to create awareness for people who literally buying these products for their specs in paper and doesn't care about A.S.Service.

Posts deleted. Can we please stick to what this section and this thread is for?

This thread and section is not for asking whether you can buy a Micromax device or not. Ask that in the right section or through PM. Also this section is not for discussing who Micromax is making their brand ambassador or whether the phone is manufactured in Bhatinda. Do those discussions in Chit-Chat section. This thread is not a random Micromax bashing thread. Do that in Chit-Chat section or in Facebook.

The OP is doing an RMA again. If you any query or anything to say about the topic, then post.

Went to RMA centre on Saturday to RMA my funbook , was getting washed out colors on the display. They had shifted their location and not updated on site took me around a hour calling different numbers to get their office location. Finally found it and submitted , was told display is faulty they will have to replace it and will take 10-15 days.
Lets hope they do resolve it within 15 days . Have been using the washed out tab for way too long (almost 5 months).

I can relate to tkin's experience. My funbook was working great for the first month after purchase, then the good old battery problems started. First it shut down at 20%, then 35%, then with each week that percentage kept increasing. Now it shuts down at 94% !!!

I am not sure what this problem has all to do with power delivery. How did you diagnose it tkin? I think its the battery gauge that somehow gets screwed up and starts reporting false data. Even though it shuts down at 94% now, the battery still gives me atleast 3 hours before shutting down which suggests that the chemicals in the battery are working fine. Its only that the operating system is unable show us accurate reading of the battery %. A good indication of firmware problem perhaps?

I haven't taken it the service center because I know it will be a waste of time. I built a portable external battery pack with charging circuitry, that I simply plug into the tablet via mini USB when it runs out of juice. Gives a good 7-9 hours runtime. It's not ideal but atleast the tab is usable this way.

MMX had a great product on their hands which they ruined due to lack of quality control and of course the lack of technical knowhow to fix these issues. A product which by design itself is faulty cannot be fixed by going to the service center. In such cases a company needs to do a total recall and ask their engineers to fix the design flaw. But that's impossible when the company resells Chinese noname products instead of designing & manufacturing anything themselves.

TBH i have not used my funbook since i bought it cause of the display issue .
Good news is my funbook has come back from repairs so thats about 8-9 days time which is pretty good IMO . Let me see how well has it been repaired and how long it will last.

Update to post #108
I was happy that my Micromax Device is finally back , but to my shock the service centre guys told providing a new screen still did not fix the issue , so now they have sent the tab to the HQ to see what can be done , an estimate of another 10-15 days is given .
This is turning out to be irritating :|
