MS Equation is an add-on to MS Office that helps users write equations and the like on Word, etc... It has functionality to write symbols like integration, differentiation, etc... and write complex mathematical formulae (Note that I say write, not solve)...

If I remember correctly, MS Equation is an optional component that is available with the setup files of Office

MS-Equation Editor is inbuilt program in MS-office, and can be installed it by running office setup.

But I would say, use MATH TYPE for sophisticated equations, its quite easy and more option than EQUATION EDITOR.
