processor|core i5 2400|10000
motherboard|intel DH67CLB3|5500
ram|1*4gb corsair 1333|1100
hard disk|1tb seagate/WD|5000
graphics card|radeon 5670 512mb|4200

total:42900

i3 2100 costs ~6000 but it is a dual core processor & at this budget one should get a 4core processor.viewsonic monitors are not recommended based on experience of some members here.benq model is very good & has great reviews.AMD based config is also a good option.

benq G2222HDL is 21.5 inch
My priority is 24 inch LCD/LED monitor and the rest all can be adjusted to accommodate that.
also aren't 1gb graphics cards cheap these days? 2k-4k?

also aren't 1gb graphics cards cheap these days? 2k-4k?

Basic information regarding graphic cards for newbies. read.

Will nVidia 7300 GT 1 GB be faster than AMD HD 2600 XT 256 MB or nVidia 7600GT 256 MB??
NO. 7300 GT is simply not fast enough to make use of that 1GB video memory. 7600GT and HD 2600 XT are much faster despite having only 256 MB of video memory. Like I told you above, the only way to judge performance of a graphic card is by looking at FPS numbers delivered by them in games. For this, you need to read reviews and research yourself.
(Note: The cards mentioned in this question are end-of-line and very old. Don't think these are good cards in 2011)

i have quoted a para. this is the reason.

frankly speaking if picture quality is your main concern then you should not even consider a monitor.a 32" LCD TV(ips/pva panel)from something like samsung series 5 or above is far better than any pc monitor.generally 22" is the point at which you get good picture quality for the price as size increases to cut costs manufacturers usually compromise on panel quality.if size is your only concern then i think 24" monitors are available for ~11000.but at this price you have to drop i5 & either get i3 dual core or amd 4 core(preferred).

BTW you must get a decent graphics card to run stuff without lags on a 24".

@whitestar
what is the cost of that 32" LCD tv ? . Reason I waned Big monitor is i need to have lot of space to see a major portion of code / lot of sub /tools/windows in a programming IDE.
is amd 4 core > i3 dual core?
In terms of performance. I hear i3 (sandybridge start series) was by far outperforming any amd.
@RiGOD
wow that monitor is looking awesome man.
I dont want lags.what do you suggest in terms of the config ?

then you don't need a 32" LCD TV.get any cheap 24" monitor from a good brand like dell, benq,lg,samsung,AOC etc.programmers don't need a ips/pva quality lcd as these are meant for those people who are quality conscious of the picture being displayed.lagging on a big monitor is related to gaming & no relation with daily usage tasks.

BTW check out this configuration.

Component Make Price
CPU AMD Phenom II 965 6790
Motherboard Gigabyte GA-M78LMT-S2 2600
RAM Corsair DDR3 4 GB 1200
GPU Radeon HD5670 4050
Case Zebronics Bijli 1200
PSU FSP Saga II 400W 1900
Monitor Dell ST2420L 12600
HDD Seagate Barracuda 1 TB 5230
OS Windows 7 6200
TOTAL 41770

These are mostly the flipkart prices. So you'll get some discounts while buying locally I guess.

EDIT : @whitestar_999, appreciate the suggestion mate.

Gigabyte GA-M68MT-S2 is an ancient mobo which should not be recommended to anyone now-a-days.Gigabyte GA-78LMT-S2P costs ~2500 & is a good mobo with AM3+ processor support too.

yes i know, I play Enough MMORPG's to know what lag means. I take it that the radeon 5670 512mb will be good enough to prevent any lag issues on a 24 inch monitor.

Amd Phenom 2 is competitor of i3 right?
Ive been told by people that i3 out performs amd phenom 2 in regards to gaming.

Tempted to try 2 benq G2222HDL Monitors with whitestar's first config.

core by core amd don't stand a chance against intel sandybridge architecture.core i3 is a competitor to phenom II x4(4 cores) as even a pentium G620 2.6GHz(sandybridge based pentium dual core)can beat any amd phenom dual core in general usage as well as gaming.4 cores of amd are suggested only because many believe newer games will be able to take advantage of more than 2 cores & at that time a 2 core processor might be a bottleneck to a good graphics card.so it is better for gamers to get a cheap amd 4 core & good graphics card.

Ive come up with this but it is not in budget. Where can i reduce costs keeping the processor ram and monitor. This is a pc from scratch. lets say i can make do with a 500 gb HD. Ive taken these off other configs based on RiGOD and Whitestar. Main thing is i dont know whats supported/compatible / cheaper alternative.
Component Make Price
Processor Intel Core i3-2100 Processor 6420
RAM Corsair DDR3 4 GB 1200

Keyboard & Mouse Logitech MK200 700
UPS Intex 1KVA 1800
Motherboard ASUS P8H61-M LX 3050
PSU Seasonic S12II-520 3770

OS win 7 home premium 6200
Monitor Dell ST2420L 12600

you can get corsair cx430v2 for 2300 instead of seasonic 520w which is not required unless you go for at least a 8000-9000 graphics card.500gb hard disk costs around 3900 but for just 1000 extra you get double the space.try i3 prices locally as there is a good chance that i3 is available for ~6000 there.if you don't do serious photoshop(& no idea about unreal engine work)then all other usages can be handled easily by a pentium G620(~3500).

@whitestar
isn't there a minimum power requirement for the i3 and its motherboard? i thought 500w + was it.
Don't think i can step below an i3 , for a new pc.
looks like time to do some saving up and postpone the buying date.
what if i really go all out and try and take 2 Monitor -Dell ST2420L .
will this affect the graphics card or power requirements??
W
Mar 9, 2012 at 10:25 AM
even a good 400W psu is enough for i3+a card like 5670.try this:eXtreme Power Supply Calculator

running 2 monitors have no effect over psu because monitors are connected to ups.as for graphics card if you are planning on gaming warcraft/games simultaneously on 2 monitors(which is also not recommended by many) then i am not sure if 5670 will be able to handle it but for all other normal usages it should suffice.

its more like running multiple clients on both the windows. never really thought about wow occupying both the screens.
W
Mar 9, 2012 at 11:33 AM
in that case 5670 should be able to handle the load(i am assuming client means software applications like photoshop, programming IDE etc)

A 520 PSU will be serious overkill for your configuration.
Newegg.com - Recommended Power Supply Calculator.

So I'm rewriting the configuration with the actual prices (online).

Component Make Price
CPU Intel Core i3-2100 6420
Motherboard ASUS P8H61-M LX 3050
RAM Corsair DDR3 4 GB 1200
GPU Radeon 5670 4200
HDD Seagate Barracuda 1 TB 5200
Case Coolermaster Elite 310 1750
PSU FSP Saga II 400W 1900
Monitor Dell ST2420L 12600
KB + Mouse Logitech MK200 710
UPS Intex 1 KVA 1800
OS Windows 7 6200
TOTAL 45030

BTW have you increased your budget? If so specify that. And I'd say it'll be much better to go for a quad core AMD based configuration.

@riGOd
Thanks for the updated config. I think that could be the most i can manage. I am still working on that additional 5k.
Also i would like to be running 2 cabinet fans for this configuration. Will this change the power requirement?
I generally prefer good amount of cooling for the system to increase its life. my existing p4 system has 2 cabinet fans including the cpu fan( which i am assuming is a basic for any system).

Is there a best place online i can buy this as a whole set assembled?
Is there a best place online where i can get a good discount on the prices as a complete set or individual components?.

No need to change the PSU for a couple of fans. Your Mobo has provision for one and the other can be connected to PSU. For better cooling you can go for NZXT Source 210 Elite @ 2400. It comes with 2 fans and has cable management holes unlike the CM Elite 310.

I'm not sure if you'll get this configuration as an assembled rig online. Better buy parts from Theitwares, flipkart, smc etc.
