I guess he asked for DDR3 RAM.

I asked for DDR3 RAM because when i bought this PC 6 years back , i didn;t know wnything and was sold DDR1 RAM , which made it almost impossible for me to upgrade , have 256 MB RAM. So wouldn;t it be advisable to buy DDR3 at this point ?

The mobo I suggested has a AM3 socket so it should support the procy you mentioned.

By the way if you're only running Firefox and Windows Media Player you won't notice any difference between the two proccys.

Also , is it ~3k ?

If all you need is browsing and some movie/video watching, then why going for Win 7? Better install Ubuntu or whatever flavor of Linux you prefer.

Any Intel will be way out of your budget. Stick with AMD. If you want to lower your budget further, I could even suggest you a Sempron, but guess it's best to stick with multi core these days. So go for X2, no need for X3

Really , AnandTech - Bench - CPU , the difference is really very little , and i can save upto Rs 500 [ if difference is less than RS 500 than i will chose X3 , otherwise X2].

I can run FIFA 12 on AMD Athlon II X2 255 [ 8600 GT 256 MB DDR3 ] at medium settings , 1280 x 1024 , right ?

Do you need to game on that system? If not then let the onboard graphics do its duty. And go for X2 instead of X3. Rather get 4gb RAM if possible, Firefox just loves RAM. :))

RAM prices have fallen so much, I think for anyone looking to add more RAM, this is the right time. I don't remember if 2GB DDRII ever went below 1000.
Nice purchase, which shop?
