Hello all!
I am looking for a gaming phone from Nokia N series. The things I need in my phone are:
1.GPS
2.Bluetooth
3.Nice audio like N96
4.3G and WiFi compatibility
5.All the blah blah a good phone should have.
I have N85 in my mind but my budget is 25K. What say people? Shall I go for it? How much will it cost?

It has some build quality issues you should look into. Wobbly slider, peeling paint and broken buttons should act as a startup.

What about SE phones for about 25k?
SE or Nokia only.

Jan 3, 2009 at 7:24 PM
Dont think you will get a gaming SE phone for 25k. Get the PSP na. and get the N79 to go along with it.Or get the C905 if you want something different.

Except for a minor wobble in the slider there are no problems with the N85. I should know having used it for over a week now. It is a very well built phone.

The C905 is your option in the SE portfolio around the 25K mark. Okay, the W960 has it all too but it's just massively overpriced for the outdated (and dead) platform that it offers. The G900 is another option at circa 20k.j
If you're willing to forego WiFi, the W980 and W902 are two nicely equipped music-oriented phones.

Check a few reviews and a few feedbacks from users in this forum, you will get your ans. For krazzy, you got a review phone which surely had all the glitches wiped off.

I already own a PSP Slim n lite, want a good mobile like N82. I currently own a iPhone which lacks many good features like bluetooth, good audio,GPS,a bittorrent client(can be installed on symbian I guess) etc etc. I can extend my budget but I don't wanna regret after spending 25K! I owned a S500i quite a while back, was quite decent. I want the phone to have good build quality, looks and performance. Does N85 have a GPU like N82?
dreamcatcher
Jan 3, 2009 at 8:34 PM
Nopes, the N85 doesn't have a dedicated GPU. You can go for the C905 if you can extend your budget by 5k.Its a good phone with all the features you need in a phone.Only downside being its not a smartphone.

Support for thrid party apps.Support for more codecs. But since you already own an iphone i doubt you would use any of the apps that apply with the N85.

Pluses of the C905-Brilliant 8 mp cam, best xenon flash in the market, great build quality, stereo sound recording.
N85-Symbian,VGA video recording,dedicated music keys.

I need a smartphone to keep in sync with PC and all. Please recommend me a phone which has good support for third party apps, plugins etc. Budget can be extended to 30K as I'm gonna sell the iPhone. Please guys be clear. I've got no clue of what I may end up with.

C905 is fast

@Sunny1211993..
You gonna sell iPhone 2G? It looks so cool.. Nowhere compared to iPhone 3G.

BTW you said you wanna game. Don't go for SE. Nokia is way better with smartphonish features and gaming. N82 is a powerful phone but gaming would not be easy with its difficult keys.

Why not N95 8GB? Will feel a bit iPhonish with inbuilt flash memory. Has good dedicated buttons for music. Gaming should be good as well. And I think you can forego Xenon Flash available in N82.

CORRECTED

BTW i said early N82 is fast in operating ,, gaming will be difficult with tiny keys camera gr8

i never play games in my N82!!!!!!!!1

On the contrary, review samples are some of the worst of the lot. They have often been with other reviewers before and have been abused. Considering that the N85 I got was in great condition. Compared to that the W595 I have feels like it's been through World War 2. Also review samples are retail units and not some special ones.

Sunny if you are getting a phone under 25k then get the N85. If you can spend up to 30k then get the C905.

N85 rocks .. but it does have a build quality issues as reported by our beloved amd ..

Specially those made in china ones ..try to find a made in finland one or check ur handset throughly before buying ..its fantastic phone ..

its drawbacks are

1. Build quality issues --but these are very few user specific ..and nokia recently does not have a good record as far as build quality is concerned .. that does not mean that every n85 is faulty.. just be cautious while buying .. if u feel its rock solid and everything is working fine as it should then go ahead and buy it

2. lack of xenon flash - we cant do much abt it other than waiting for n85 refresh which is coming with xenon flash in 6 months time ..

How is N82?

Great with the best 5 MP

Another problem you will be facing with N85 for 1-2 month that it's firmware is not Ha( ked yet....

What are the smartphone features that C905 lacks?
everything...........

i can't even list the advantages of a smartphone......

15k + always go for a smartphone

you will get bored with non-smartphones soon

by the way...

N85 got OLED DISPLAY , good camera , great audio quality, dual slider, landscape gaming , 3.5 mm jack , stereo speakers , fm transmitter , navi wheel

(only 3-4 games are out there that utilize the gpu)

Go with the time N82 is old now and looks crap ..............

N85 is the way to go as it is a smartphone it has got coreplayer even which can run dvix videos........ Symtorrent..........

And many other unlimited goodies

you will be able to play your old nes ,vbag games and all even in landscape view by remapping the keys..........

N85 just rocks

where as C905 advantages are............. GREAT LOOKS, 8MP cam , better themes , mega bass and some other goodies maybe...

Arey and yea a bigger screen is also there in N85

trust me.I have no issues with the N85.But just that the N81 designs and the problems faced by my friends pisses me off. i would never recommend the N85 to anyone for that matter.it may sound a bit biased, but a few user reviews have started coming in and Nokia hasnt been able to live up to its expectations.

talking about screens, the C905 has one of the best screens in the market.Check any review out there. Also going by phonearena, its sound quality is one of the best.

Basically, comes down to whether you want to want a smartphone or a feature phone.C905 has better flaunt value too.

N85 gfx is lacking when compared to N82

N82 is faster in operation than N85

C905 is very well built and the slider action is nice and smooth. The sound quality is same as mid-range Walkman phones. But the UI in the new SE phones seems a bit slow. Even the W959 that I have feels very slow compared to older SE phones. It gets even slower when the music is playing. The camera is very good though.

correction - n85 is as fast if not faster than n82 ..and it gps performance is same as n82 ..what u lack in n82 is only realised after u start using n85 .. n85 slider is much much better than n81 , n95 versions .. its just that few early adoptars have suffered due to poor build quality .. just because n81 is bad does not mean n85 is bad too .. i am using it for 2 months without any issues..

Compare it with N82 and see , see the GFX accelerator N82 which is not present in N85 , operating speed not the GPS !!! N82 hardware is much powerful than N85 .

Issues in N85 arise when u use frequently and very hardly , BTW u can feel the problems in N85

You could have waited a bit for MWC before writing that article. The Most awaited phone of 2009 is surely gonna be the 12 mp phone by SE . Even the W980 thingy was a bit of an offshoot, being awarded the EISA award for the best music phone.Newz.

Actually the N82 is slightly faster than N85 in speed, but in most cases u won't notice it. Only time u will clearly notice it is when u are heavily multitasking, playing media files with very high bitrates, playing 3D games likes Quake 3, Global race etc. and something more in similar cases.

Its clear shame that Nokia abandoned the much more powerful OMAP series processor to a cheaper single cpu

My dear friend , i have used n82 for 10 months since dec 07 and know a thing or two abt n82 .. hence the comment .. even during heavy multitasking, speed is same as n82 .. playing media files with high bitrate is no prob .. as i said the lack of gpu is evident only in apps or games which has support for it and the no is a small one ..

I hve been using n85 for last two months and its better than n82 in most ways .. lack of xenon and build quality is where n82 is ahead ..and maybe a bit better camera .

No firmware issues with the C905 whatsoever.Whatever issues it had has been covered with two firmware updates. Yes, it had a few hardware faults like scratching keypad, but its only in models that are built W44 and behind. All models manufactured W45 hence are perfect. And cummon, you will hear a few issues with it being the largest selling phone this fall in the UK.Not all phones that come out of the manufacturers den are perfect.
