I need a new bike, priced around 50-55k...
I think i can get only 125cc bikes in that category..
So i was thinking about the Honda shine or the 135cc Bajaj Discover dtsi. wats ur opinion guys??
the newly launched bajaj xcd seems to be a flop..
I dont seem to like the hero honda glamour..
hows suzuki zeus?? pls suggest..
Currently i m in favour of the discover around 56k.

Go for Discover. It has the longest wheel base in it's category. Apache wheel base is less, which really makes the bike unstable at high speed.

Considering that both of you brothers are tall, CBZ Xtreme fits you, really. You can also opt for Honda Unicorn though. But Pulsar is extrmemly capable of the two bikes. I'll definately give my vote to CBZ.

CBZ rocks babe...as my elder bruder has 125 cc discover..it feels like a khatara with rorty engine..i have 180 DTSi pulsar..that s too gud and balanced but it has rorty engine too..

honda has refined engines........be it unicorn, shine or hero honda's Xtreme

so for best power, refined engine and mileage(48-50) go for CBZ Xtreme

Pathiks U can go for a Honda shine ...safe make with sturdy build

Xcd .....exceeds the border of Lies.....dont go near this one....this is too cheap just to sell it off.....the remodel will soon be ready soon.....TVS Flame & court tie up...thus delayed

Pulsar ....the old ones rockz the new digital makes sucks....Apache is built for racing & show off....

If u are interested for long drives & mountain places ...better mileage & sturdy build is Honda Unicorn.....

among the older ones Dicover 125 is good ....safe for city drives...
Glamourz & other TVS makes are good vfm....not snazzy but ok

thus choose between Honda Shine & Unicorn...[dont think i am a honda fan ]

CBZ Xtreme has tweaked Engine of Unicorn .

Looks suks ass before the old CBZ, Pulsar, Apache ...

------

under your budget-

buy HH Splendour 125 & be happy :D, coz it has the best ergonomics, its the slickest thru city traffic (as its slim).

Bajaj has all the gizmo, like Twin Spark plugs... but it still gives fuel economy as Splendour or other bikes.

but you get Alloys:D

So goto showrooms with you taaaaaaall bro & test ride these bikes, then you two can decide which is more comfortable.

ya. but have you taken the Apache on tight twisty roads or on tight traffic?

then you wont critisize its wheelbase.
take the old pulsar (the first model, shorter wheelbase & round head lamps), take a sharp turn or make a zig zag, the rear end becomes really unstable or will just kick out, now thats called instability.
take a Apache & do the same @ same speed or higher, nothing will happen like that, except you wanting to take that corner at even higher speed.

the new pulsar is not as good as Apache in terms of handling in tight places.

TVS didnt spend sooooooo much of money on R&D on its indigenous bike.

about the instability at high speeds, dunno much bout it, 90% its related to handle(streeing)/fork damping.

shorter wheelbase= retarded RAZOR SHARP handling.

Apache RTR is for the performance seekers, not for ppl who love to cruise.

In your budget you'll get only 125cc bikes. Unfortunately all of them are rather small and would be uncomfortable for tall people such as your brother. Only one 125cc bike is big and that is Yamaha Gladiator. Its also the only 125cc bike to have a 5-speed gearbox along with all the other features like disc brake, alloys and ES. Its an excellent bike. I think you should test it once before deciding. The on-road price for it in Mumbai is 57.7k. (If you want on-road prices for other bikes, i can provide them).

With ur bidget of 55k,
I advice you to go for XCD, which is 125 cc and has power of almost 9
If u can wait for TVS flame( depend on court ruling)... it eems better, 125 c and power 10

and hell if u can increase ur budget... to 62-65k... try pulsar 150,180, Apache RTR160(good bike)
Unicorn 150(nice bike, my choie in 150 cc range, coz style is nt every thing, just ride it and u wil know the diffrence btwn the engines of honda and bajaj, or shld i call it btwn a car and a jeep!
beside unicorn , in a 3 yr long run will be much cheape to maintain and is quite durable.. as the name ays.. honda!
additional..point ti be considered, unicorn has the best resale value.

Wait for the new Honda shine 125cc yt to be launched!

Zeus is crap. I'll suggest you only consider Discover, Gladiator and Shine. Discover is the best among these but unfortunately is not for tall riders. Shine and Gladiator are taller. Gladiator has the advantage of an extra gear while Shine has a silky smooth engine. You can test ride either and decide for yourself which is better.

considering 55K

for KMPL Honda shine, much better looking than HH Glamour
for performance Bajaj Discover 125/135

Don't go for Yamaha, lack of spare parts and Bajaj XCD as it's too new and yet to prove itself.

Honda shine will give u peace of mind..

Discover 135 is the best. But unfortunately it not for 6-foot+ people. I think Zeus is crap because its got nothing special in it. The other bikes in this segment outperform it in every aspect, whether its looks, performance, handling, features, etc. There isn't any good reason to buy it. XCD also looks like a great bike. As far as maintenance is concerned, I've frequently read in Autocar India that Honda switchgear and electricals aren't as reliable as Bajaj. Switches go bad within weeks of purchase.

Honda is well known for their engine technology, till Bajaj came with DTSI. Bigger engines 125cc, giving mileage of 100cc and far better performance. Next year will be the year of the motorcycle. A lot of models are slated for release. TVS flame is one to watch out for, if they overcome legal hurdles.

I own/ride an Avenger. Very good bike. This is my second motorcycle, my first was a Bullet 350; had it for ten years. The Bajaj motorcycle service here in Mangalore is excellent.

The discover 135 would be a smart choice considering that its is a fine blend of performance and fuel efficiency .However you may also look at the unicorn the non electric start version may just fall in ur budget. However one thing to be noted is that the discover is not so comfortable for taller riders I would always recommend the unicorn over the 135 in ur case.

@Kiran tech
Longer wheel base only equates to high speed stability but a short whelbase will be more flickable in congested city traffic.

Apache RTR is for the performance seekers, not for ppl who love to cruise.

I have tried all the three: Apache, Discover and Pulsar. Among this, I felt Discover the most stable bike. Being in this design field, I have seen why manufacturers put their hardwork for getting that 10mm increase in wheel base.

During the release of TVS Apache, it had 40mm shorter wheel base than the current model. This action was due to many reviewers saying that wheel base is not justifiable for the engine power. Do you think TVS would have done that if shorter wheel base is more efficient as you say?

stable in straight line or corner?

Pulsar takes slightly more wider track ( turn) at corners when compared to Apache.

I agree. I have already said that bike is more stable with longer wheel base at high speeds. When people go for 135-150-180CC engines, it's for speed. And that's where wheelbase criteria comes in. If one is so interested in small bikes for city, stick to 100CC. Why do u need one of higher CC?

s18000rpm said:

You are not understanding my point. 150CC--> ??? High speed! stable Apache? NOPE.

Stability comes in picture in straight aswell as turns at high speeds. This is where all shorter wheel base bikes are very vulnerable. They easily skid off the road. I agree that Pulsar needs long turning radius. But this is required, becoz one should not take sharp turns at high speeds. That's one of the reason why wheel base is more for high CC bikes.
K
krazyfrog #58
Oct 23, 2007 at 1:48 PM
Higher wheelbase bikes are more stable but aren't very sharp at handling. Short wheelbase bikes are more flickable at corners but not very stable. High powered bikes can't afford to have all that power concentrated in a short wheelbase. They need to spread the power over a larger area to make it more stable around the corners. The original Pulsar was more like a tool for the expert rider. One needed to be an expert at riding to get the most out of that bike. However the DTS-i model brought an increase in wheelbase and made it much more friendly for the common rider. Now one doesn't need to be an expert to get the most out of that bike.

Honda parts are so cheap

today my frnd got his Honda Unicorn back from service.

the bill was ~Rs.2700.

major parts changed-
Chain Sprocket - cost - ~Rs. 550  (HH Splendour's costs around 1300)
Front fairing (without scoop) - ~Rs.400. (Bajaj Pulsar's costs more than 1800.)

i thought, as it is Honda the parts will be really costly, but they are dirt cheap. :D
