Okay i have a thinkpad which has some basic grarhic support n i cant even its graphic performance,So move on.

But i have a desktop pc as well which is pentium 4,512 MB RAM,160 GB HDD.
The problem is i'm preparing to learn Microsoft XNA game studio, that needs shader model 1.1 or above. So i need your suggestions on new configs,i have sorted some of them on my own, just as
AMD Athlon 2 X4 620...5k
Gigabyte MA78GM-US2H....4.2k
2x2 GB transcend DDR2 800 - 4.2k
Zebronics Bijli - 1.1k
Gigabyte Superb 460W - 2.2k

and the second config is..

AMD Athlon II X3 435 - 3.9k
Biostar A785GE - 3.5k
2x2 GB transcend DDR2 800 - 4.2k
Zebronics Bijli - 1.1k
Gigabyte Superb 460W - 2.2k

and i have a budget of 15k to 20 k.
So i need your valuable suggestions.

for shader model 1.1 or above you can simply add a graphic card (provided that your motherboard has a pci-e 2.0 slot and you have a good psu). you can pick up a geforce 8, 9 or 200 series graphic card that support shader model 4.0 or even a radeon 5 series card that supports shader model 5.0 .
but for best experience it is good to upgrade. i recommend the following -

Athlon II X4 630 2.8GHz @ 5.2k
ECS A785GM-M @ 4.4k
Transcend 2GB DDR3 1333MHz C9 @ 2.2k
Cooler Master Elite 310 @ 1.5k
Gigabyte 80 Plus Active PFC 460W @ 2.2k
Sapphire HD5670 512MB GDDR5 @ 5.5k (shader model 5.0 support)

total - Rs. 21000

if you do not want the graphics card (but it is recommended) then the onboard gpu (hd 4200) is also good. it supports shader model 4.1 . then your cost will come down to Rs. 15500

@jaskanwar singh, hey thanks for your suggestions.
hey but my one of my sorted config has board in built graphic support(in Gigabyte motherboard),So can u please review ma current dat cofig n tel will that work for me...

the board that you have mentioned has onboard HD3200 graphics but ECS A785GM-M has onboard HD4200 graphics(i mentioned it in my last line of previous post). your config is good but ECS A785GM-M gives you DDR3 ram support also which is faster than DDR2. but still a graphics card is recommended.

if u not into serious game development, onboard graphics should suffix. also get 4Gb ram. proccy get X3. no need of spending 1k more on X4. well X4 wil give u more futureproofing. for board get Biostar TA785G3 HD. it got 128Mb DDR3 sideport memory. cost 4.3k. ECS availability may give u headache.

for cabby, bijli is good. or maybe CM Elite 310 + 2 120mm fans, wil keep the cpu cool. PSU choice is good. though it'll cost 2.5k. may look for FSP Saga II 400W. its the OEM of Gigabyte. so both almost same PSU.

+1 for jaskanwar singh , with ECS A785GM-M and a ATI Radeon HD5670, you don’t have to worry about upgrading for next two years.

Sorry,i missed your last line,n yes you are probably correct that i better go for the graphics card.....because i read somewhere integtrated graphics is not as good as an additional graphics card is.
hey i also know about other graphics card in that 5k range to open up my choices,n well thanx for your support.

go for Sapphire HD5670 512MB GDDR5
it is DX 11 supporting card and so futureproof
M
Mar 17, 2010 at 5:12 PM
@jaskanwar singh, that's so great that it support DX11,hey i need to ask you one thing more if i don't get this motherboard(ECS) than what should be mine other options. Because processors are easily available but with motherboards u never know.

then go with sam's recommendation - Biostar TA785G3 HD

---------- Post added at 05:20 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:16 PM ----------

if you are into gaming also then don't expect to play at high settings very nicely with ATI Radeon HD5670 (read its review in this month's digit) .it is good at medium and low settings.
M
Mar 17, 2010 at 5:26 PM
But i guess sapphire card will allow me to play such games on high settings,or is it not??
though i am not into such serious gaming...

its of the power of 9800GT. so for now HD gaming possible with low details. but don't expect to go same distance in future. if u causal gamer, want play games at low resolution & high details, its best value card.

ECS A785GM-M is a fantastic little mobo. good for its price, only con is its availability isn't certain.

Hey guyz i hav a new problem now,a freind of mine insists me to buy intel machine(means processors n all) now i need to know the config with intel
N sorry for this new twist

no problem, just know later u'll suffer, not us. & yes when that time comes do remember to thank your freind for his suggestions.

ok so going with the trend:

Processor: Core i3 i530 2.93GHz: 5.9K
Motherboard: Intel DP55WB: 6.3k //P55. much better than H55//
Ram: Transcend 2Gb DDR3-1333Mhz C9: 2.6k
Hard Disk: Western Digital 500Gb Caviar Blue: 2.4k
Graphics Card: Sapphire HD5670 512Mb: 5.5k
PSU: FSP Saga II 400W: 2.1k or Gigabyte 460W: 2.4k
Cabinet: Zebronics Bijli: 1.2K

Total @ 26.3k.

old time, no more goodies:

Processor: Core 2 Duo E8400 3GHz: 8.4k
Motherboard: IGigabyte GA-G31ME-S2L: 2.4k
Ram: Transcend 2Gb DDR2-800Mhz: 2.3k
Hard Disk: Western Digital 500Gb Caviar Blue: 2.4k
Graphics Card: Sapphire HD5670 512Mb: 5.5k
PSU: FSP Saga II 400W: 2.1k or Gigabyte 460W: 2.4k
Cabinet: Zebronics Bijli: 1.2K

Total @ 24.6k

brand new AMD way:

Processor: AMD Athlon II X4 630 2.8Ghz: 5.0k
Motherboard: Biostar TA785G3 HD: 4.4k
Ram: Transcend 2Gb DDR3-1333Mhz C9: 2.6k
Hard Disk: Western Digital 500Gb Caviar Blue: 2.4k
Graphics Card: Sapphire HD5670 512Mb: 5.5k
PSU: FSP Saga II 400W: 2.1k or Gigabyte 460W: 2.4k
Cabinet: Zebronics Bijli: 1.2K

Total @ 23.5k

now you decide what you want to buy. just know the processor on AMD config much better than on both Intels. also DDR3 is standard. so if you go Intel, get minimum the 1st config. 2nd config is just a reference point. but trust me, the added premium of 2.7k to get i3 is biggest mistake one can make, specially if its not going to be OC'd. rest depends on you.

my pleasure mate. well for gaming Intel i3 is better than X4 630 but for now only. but i will always prefer 4 physical cores over 2 physical + 2 ghost cores in i3 anyday.

Intel got name but when budget not high, you can't go wrong with AMD. well with Intel you'll face 1 problem, not now in future. your upgrade path will be closed. as LGA1156 socket won't support many processors. so thing is you'll be stuck. with AMD, you can upgrade your pc even after 2-3years. with Intel, into 2011-2012 & you can't upgrade processor. cause they will release new chipset for the new proccies.

i do not think he needs new HDD, also, I will suggest if you have a working optical drive(CD/DVD etc) do not buy a new use the same to format/update your new system. get a DDR3 board 785G has HD4200 which is of Shader Model 4.1,and 128MB dedicated gfx memory, so until and unless you really feel it do not buy and when you are ready buy some nVidia gfx card most of the time it is said nVidia is better for such professional works. also here you need quantity and not just quality so consider buying a card with 1GB gfx memory, if you are thinking of running latest or robust graphic software.

---------- Post added at 09:48 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:44 PM ----------

i too second sam on intel/amd post, most of the time intel + nVidia is considered for professional gfx solution but price always matters, still nVidia with its better drivers support would suit your for your work. any saying against it I really cannot fight back because people read reviews of gfx card with gaming performance.

---------- Post added at 09:50 PM ---------- Previous post was at 09:48 PM ----------

also, if you do not consider yourself a big hardware tweaker or experimenter buy X4, more core really helps, rather than unlocking the hidden core.

he not into maya or autocad or so. he into game development so i think a gaming card better. vendor is OP choice. either Nvidia or ATI.

in 5K you get both nVidia and ATI card so buying any of them is not a problem.
You certainly would be running windows, so you should check that way and as sam pointed out which I had missed you would not be running maya autocad but a gaming development card so why not a gaming card. ATI is performing the best as of now.

I am taking these boards from our good old Latest price thread, avent really checked their goodness reading any reviews.

DDR3
MSI 790FX-GD70 790FX/SB750 AM3 @ 9.7k
Gigabyte GA-MA770T-UD3P @ 6.8k

MSI 790GX-G65 AM3 @ 7.1k
DFI LANPARTY BI 785G-M35 @ 7k
ASUS M4A785TD-V EVO @ 6.5k
MSI 785GN-E65 @ 5.6k
Gigabyte GA-MA785GMT-UD2H @ 5.5k
MSI 785G-E53 @ 5.5k
ECS A785GM-M @ 4.8k
MSI 785GM-E51 @ 4.6k
Biostar TA785G A3 @ 3.7k

so incase you are not getting ECS board recommended above collect info of available MSI boards
also this one of gigabyte from the list Gigabyte GA-MA785GMT-UD2H @ 5.5k
getting DDR3 RAM board will help you.
buying single chip of 2GB RAM if you will be running XP and 4GB i.e 2 chips of 2GB if running vista or windows 7

again onto gpu you can get sapphire card
Sapphire HD5670 1GB GDDR5 @ 6.5k
Sapphire HD5670 512MB GDDR5 Artic Cooling @ 5.3k

the gigabytePSU suggested can handle any of these GPU without any probs.also, if you any way spare some bucks buy NZXT gammawhich is coming in 2K range rather than Bijli, as in long run time it will come out as a better buy and much worth of extra buck spent.

true. Intel H55 got no IDE port. they even choose not to include a JMicron onboard chip for enabling IDE & 6gbps sata ports.

& you did a bit mistake, getting a Cooler Master 500W is not good thing. from price i sure its the buggy Extreme Power PSU. just know it won't be with you for long even if its 500W, under load theres full chance it'll go bad. & may damage your pc components also.

also the number of fans not shows how good a cabby is. its the build, quality of materials used that matters mainly.

anyway congrats on the new build.

i was a bit confuse while purchasing smps, but i also asked many guyz wont the extra power harm anything, everybody suggests that smps gives power as per their need.....IS it such a big mistake??
N yes,i'm also thinkin about IDE to SATA adapter,so that i can use my older HDD.

just keep your fingers crossed. have you bought a AMD Phenom II proccy + some good graphics card like GTS250 + an ATX mobo, i can assure you, you'll have to send your PSU for RMA within 1st week, if not the whole pc. as the power demand of your rig is ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, low. you relatively safe, kind of.

its not that the 100% of CM Extreme Power PSU goes bad, but the rate is real high. as high as the unlocking chance of Phenom II X2 proccies. so you can understand what i mean. but you did 1 good thing of getting a high rated PSU. this should save you (& your PSU).

visit this site: Cooler Master PSU calculator. & check your total estimated power consumption.

i think you safe but i will never put a 100% safe tag on your PC. Extreme Power PSU are very doubtful. you may PM a member of this forum, asigh. & he may advice you if your pc really in risk. he got very good knowledge about PSUs.

& as for the vendors. they say anything. they will even say a 7600GT is better than a 9600GT anyday to an unaware customer. thats why we have this forum. to make peoples aware of whats good & whats not.
