v want a low budget server for around 30 to 50 lan computers in a college
one person has given the following config.

intel core i3 530
original intel s3420gplc real server board
2gb 1333 mhz ecc ddr 3 ram
max 32gb ecc rdimm ddr3 1333 ram
500gb sata harddisk
lg dvd writer drive
cooler master chasis + 400wt smps
2Xgb nic, 6 sata, with raid 0,1,5 & 10
integrated graphics, intel server management

how much should b the total cost?
is there anything which v should/need not buy from the above list?
is there anything which v should/need to buy which is not in the above list?

i dont have much knowledge of new hardwares, so, plz b descriptive while answering. thank u in advance

this one is totally bad. please mention your specific budget so that we can suggest you a good one.

What you need for a server:

Capability of running multiple threads
lots of memory (RAM)
Fast HDDs or multiple HDDs (in RAID maybe)
Good cooling and a stable power supply since it will run 24x7
(All the above depending on requirements)

List your requirements more specifically, what kind of applications will the server & clients be running, will it be a data server or just a server to link all PCs (for printing, sharing Internet connection etc.), what is your budget, will it be hosting a website etc. etc.

u did not mention the main thing .....
what purpose will the server serve?

depending on the are different server program the the machine will run and the load, your configuration may vary from Intel atom to Xeon based systems.
