Hi ! Guys need help buying a new flagship. Really confused between iPhone 6, s6 edge and m9+. I like the camera on the iPhone but i really don't like the pay'N'play policy of IOS. Which one should I get ! Or shall I wait for any upcoming flagship

iPhone 6's camera is no match for S6, might not even match M9+

I would say buy S6 Edge as budget ain't a issue

As far as lags in Touchwiz is concerned, they don't lag anymore. It has been trimmed down. Touchwiz runs smooth even in Grand Prime & this is S6 we are talking about

M9+ has average camera & battery life (other things like screen n performance are also inferior compared to S6)

As far as iPhone 6 is concerned, its a waste of money. Camera isn't good for the price & design isn't so good (i liked the previous iPhones design wise)

Xperia Z5 is a good upcoming flagship but it will be launched in November

M9+ or 6S
S6 still has memory leaks and touchwiz and exynos related issues

It depends if OP wants to buy a 2012 "flagship" or a real 2015 flagship. ;)

I'd say go with S6 edge unless you want near stock android in Moto X Style or upcoming Nexus phones.

Pick one among these based on requirement.

1. Samsung S6 Edge+

2. Samsung Note 5

3. LG G4

I would suggest to get s6 active if you can.
Obviously imported.

Check Unbix Therapy / Linus Tech Tips review on it.

S6 active ,it doesn't look premium sort of although it packs a punch but still a flagship should feel good while in hand

As long as you are able to compromise with S6/S6 Edge Battery, you may go ahead.

Else sacrificing fingerprint reader and Looks Active is best bet.

Also wait for Xperia Z5 lineup.
Looks promising.

Well it's flagship in spec and performance, but look wise really pathetic. I mean really really pathetic. Purchasing this is like putting a V10 in an Ambassador and calling it a supercar(technically correct).

Even I am planning to buy a phone in that segment, as my HTC One's screen has crashed and its speaker is also not working properly.
But I will get it repaired and will keep that with me as I love HTC but now HTC is no good, it is coming out with phones with same looks, even the M9+ looks same like my 2 year old HTC and also HTC is no good in service now. And considering that HTC sales are going so low, the company is in big loss, if their new line up doesn't attract customers then it would be really hard for HTC to stay in market for long.
S6 edge and Edge+ both are good, but if screen size is of no concern then I guess it is better to opt for Note 5.
But Samsung phones hanging problem always remains, only few of their lots doesn't lags. That is the only I am considering iPhone 6S even when I am no fan of apple phones.

Samsung has made its Touchwiz lighter on RAM, now it runs smooth in even Grand Prime (so S6 won't lag for sure)

S6, S6 Edge, S6 Edge+, Note 5... Basically any new Samsung phone with the new Exynos does not lag a bit. They have made lots of optimizations, even the J5, J7 with low RAM does not lag. Earlier it was very pathetic, specially the entire grand line.

Any thoughts on iPhone 6S with iOS9 & 3D Touch? I'm looking to buy after wasting money on one plus one

3D Touch isn't worth spending money on..... Also there are many restrictions in an Apple device

Some disadvantages of iPhones:
- No Bluetooth file transfer
- No file manager in built
- Dependency on itunes (you can't download audio or video directly to your phone n play it, if i'm correct)
- Android phones have better battery life(Phones like G4 which are considered to have average battery life has same life as an iphone, S6 has better life)
- Limited to no customization
- Screen to body ratio
There are many more, which i'm not sure of....

Isn't 3d touch the same as a long press? You don't get haptic that much. It isn't like squishing a soft surface. Would feel awkward.

Seeing the videos it looks same like long press, but it is actually a pressure sensitive display (remember capacitive touchscreen? )

Varying the amount of pressure you apply on the screen, different menu/action happens (Why would anyone like to apply more pressure on a costly touchscreen )

1. Although Bluetooth is very helpful but I have lived without it for the past 2 years so its not much of a bigger deal.
2. There are ample of file managers which can do the job although a windows like filesystem is missing but that's not much of an issue if other features of the OS fulfill the need.
3. By downloading means what? Torrents can't be downloaded, for that I'm pissed off. Otherwise, iTunes is a very good software if you take into consideration other crappy PC Suites, Samsung Kies won't even detect my device the first time. OPO is also not good, oh wait! There is no OPO PC Suite! LOL
4. Battery is almost the same in every device. No matter what I'll always charge my phone in the morning for the day.
5. I just want my phone to look good and work properly. Customization is not much of a big deal. You will find my android phone to be just the same at all times.
6. I'm impressed even by my iPhone 4's Retina display. It's sharp and crisp.
Lastly, investing in apple ecosystem is much better than android. Every new android phone is new and I'll have to learn everytime whereas every iPhone looks the same and you know what does what.

Touch is not of good quality, its bulky, no PC software for making backups of the device. No shipped headsets, don't know how good the company's headsets are but using apple's on it. Miss ease of use of iOS

For the bold parts:

Touch feels better than any other phone in the price range except Moto phones maybe.

Use CWM/TWRP. Then transfer the backup to PC. For backing up apps, use Titanium Backup. For sms, contacts, call list, calendar use Super Backup. PC suite isn't there because it makes the process redundant and slow.

No headphones to keep price down and allows the user to buy whatever they want to use with it. They don't force their 100$ icrap (which isn't better than a 10$ ES18 in sound quality) on people.

It might be good for it's price but what's the use if its not better.
Using that many different fandroid softwares to backup seems very crappy to me.
If you can give me something good in your package so that I don't have to perform PhD in researching the best headset out there then I'm fine it. BTW 100$ is a more if that doesn't convert to ₹2000/- .

I think you missed the point of buying an OPO, flagship level performance at mid range prices. And much focus on developer support for enthusiasts.

If you didn't want to learn something new and technical, you shouldn't have bought OPO. There were phones from Samsung, Sony, HTC etc which might have had those bloatwares you required.

CWM and TWRP are recoveries similar to BIOS in PCs. Every phone has some sort of recovery to get things done. Any of them is sufficient for completely backing up and restoring your phone.

Titanium Backup and Super Backup are android apps. Though the former is very capable of performing every backup/restore tasks, its generally not recommended for backing up/restoring sms or contacts. You don't need to install any shiny looking half baked bloatware on the PC except for the phone's drivers in order to copy those backups to and from the PC.

You didn't have to research about any headphones. You could've just posted a thread here. :p

I think you missed the point that for what OPO was created. It's creators have labeled it as THE FLAGSHIP KILLER.Its creators wanted it to be a consumer friendly device. Now I can seriously rofl over it. If that's what you call a flagship killer then no wonder I would go for a fandroid flagship and FYI where did you thought that I want bloatwares? I want a thing that works otherwise it defeats the purpose , if the shiny looks are getting over you then use some specialized specs that make it seem ugly.

CWM/TWRP work absolutely fine for taking complete backup. You don't know that?

Oneplus wanted it to be budget friendly and not consumer friendly. If they wanted to be consumer friendly, there would be no invite system, they'd have to setup physical shops everywhere and give meaningless advertisements which would defeat the ultimate purpose of keeping the price much less than other flagships at that time.

Not sure about absolutely... Last time I was trying to sync HTC Desire 820, it's drivers went haywire with windows and I couldn't find a solution, not even here. It's PC Suite never worked! Had to dump that 25k useless product and now this 20k ...
If you connect your phone with PC and your backedup just right there without you even doing anything, thats very consumer friendly IMO.
Invite system was because they didn't had the capacity to produce and ship millions of devices. This and we're not even including the support/warranty.

If you want to risk bricking your new android phone for a restoring task, restore some other phone's complete backup.

A complete nandroid backup includes device's kernel which varies from phone to phone. It's like a complete system image of the phone.

Why iphone backups are compatible? I don't know. Probably because the backup of iphone doesn't makes a complete system image.

I think you just want backup/restore of apps, contacts, call list, calendar and sms which can be accomplished by Titanium Backup, Super Backup and/or tons of apps out there. You aren't restricted to follow only one way for that.

Android can only be appreciated by people who want customization, know the ins and outs of different softwares and know that Apple stock headphones AND Beats are crap. ₹150 for what? They never charged me. Showoff factor is very much there but really I'm not into that. I'll buy my cables if my current one is damaged although it seems to be working fine since 2 years ..LOL
How is apple worst ecosystem?

I'm done with specs man....last year I waited for nexus they released a phone which couldn't fit into my pockets ..:-D

I dont agree with you fully
While I feel Windows tabs and iPads offer a very well made tablet experience which android can never even dream of, I also must admit that Apple s*cks in terms of cable quality
I paid 500 bucks for a prolink cable from the Maple reseller showroom because they recommend it as they no longer get Apple cables for iPads anymore, only for iPhone and have a tie up with Prolink for it
barely lasted me a week and Maple simply blamed it on me saying it was my fault for charging it at night

Another time,I bought a capdase cable which refused to work because apparently Apple only wants you to buy their cables which are of pathetic quality and barely last 8 months
The same cable worked fine on my other iPad running ios 6 because apparently this "feature" came with the ios 7 update

As for android, I agree with you
Android feels very unfinished and poorly made at times even with some of its obvious advantages
the experience can be either excellent or pathetic

Touch is not of good quality, its bulky, no PC software for making backups of the device. No shipped headsets, don't know how good the company's headsets are but using apple's on it. Miss ease of use of iOS

You are comparing a 50k device with a 20k one.....
Though I do agree with you to an extent
But you must keep in mind, ios has major headaches as well, try syncing your PC photos, music etc via itunes then youll see the pathetic restrictions that Apple has put in place :(
You apparently can no longer delete iTunes synced media on your idevices
Another one is bluetooth, its a basic need and not every one can use Airdrop because not everyone has an iPhone

Android too has its own niggles though,no denying that

Then it shouldn't be posted in the first place.

He simply meant you can't listen losses music of highest quality on iphones as they don't support flac. It will be converted to lossy mp3 file during syncing from itunes.
And since apple/beats earphones don't have good sound quality compared to most known IEM brands, the quality loss will be compounded.

Rooting voids warranty and not everyone wants to use 3rd party stuff to solve basic stuff
^In general,I know OPO comes pre rooted
iTunes backup works wonders despite its "synced media" problems, still wont force me to buy an iphone though

I cant say much for iphones but iPad's touch is certainly one of the best touch screen experiences
Totally agree with the headphone part though,Apple headphones barely last 6 months and sound poor compared to even my 450 bucks Skullcandy Jib (Which honestly sounds amazing given the price despite its weak cables)

CWM/TWRP work absolutely fine for taking complete backup. You don't know that?

Not compared to iTunes backup
Apple did a no-headache job there despite the drawbacks with synced media
for a person wanting minimal steps to get a simple backup done, its Apple who wins overall

People use pc suite in 2015?

actually I do too for my BB Z10 (Blackberry Link and BB Blend)
Sometimes a physical backup feels safer especially if the manufacturer has made it well

- - - Updated - - -

Will that backup copy be specific to that device or I could restore to a different smartphone? Like if I purchased a new one

Actually Android has the edge too in this scenario if you are using 2 rooted devices
and these days cloud systems like Google,Onedrive etc work really well to sync back your contacts etc

- - - Updated - - -

Chrome on android is not able to run some specific sites which are of concern to me properly while safari has no problems running which makes me irritated that having this giant beast as some call it is worthless

Very true, I prefer using safari on my ipad every morning to browse

If you want to risk bricking your new android phone for a restoring task, restore some other phone's complete backup.

A complete nandroid backup includes device's kernel which varies from phone to phone. It's like a complete system image of the phone.

Why iphone backups are compatible? I don't know. Probably because the backup of iphone doesn't makes a complete system image.

I think you just want backup/restore of apps, contacts, call list, calendar and sms which can be accomplished by Titanium Backup, Super Backup and/or tons of apps out there. You aren't restricted to follow only one way for that.

You dont need a system image backup with Apple, if you wish to flash a semi-brick,its as simple as clicking restore in iTunes unlike android where its a headache and risk to flash your device most of the time
You can never brick an Apple device

Ok ...so what about it?

flac is also supported though, used it tonnes of times on my iPod Nano 2nd gen years ago

its cloud backups work excellent and even offers a partial "sd card" backup too which is easy to use and works great

Platforms have become big territories. You can't just switch to another without thinking hard. People are now invested in these territories that they'll lose money if they switch to another if their investments are not cross platform & every platform has its daily driver apps/features which might not be cross platform. I'm intrigued about what the next 10 years have in store for us. Will these territories expand more or will they merge at some point. I'm equally invested in both these ecosystems, slightly more in apple coz of music.

It has Microsoft branding now,I think their newer phones are actually better made than Nokia
As for UI,it grows on you fast once you start using it,its actually a very thoughtful design even if a bit radical
even I used to diss the platform until I actually bought a Lumia 720
App store has all the essential apps, plus Windows 10 Mobile just got support for direct ports of ios and android apps so imagine its app store as a bridge between ios and android in the near future

infact it already has a few ios apps such as Candy Crush which was the first such direct port from ios
it even got android apps like an unnofficial play store recently

I suggest you wait and watch , its gonna gain popularity soon for sure
Ive used it for 3 years so far and its got a very good consistency despite my preference to use my 3 year old 720 as my main phone even today despite better phones like Nexus 5 ,Z10 and Lumia 820 also in my home as spare phones

Not everyone can switch so easily, sometimes I get this question that Why in the world do I have two completely opposite freaking phones... One is lying with no SIM and used only for downloading purposes. For movies I like to see in iPad, for phones I got a 2yr old iPhone 4 ( model being of 2010 lol...has only 512 MB RAM but can still be used like a smartphone in 2015)

Now you see the reason why majority of Indians buy iPhones. To show off only. In fact when I bought LG G2 one shopkeeper told me to go for Samsung Galaxy S(not sure which S was running at that time, S3 perhaps), he said 'Since you are spending so much why don't you get Samsung? Samsung is more popular than LG. No one notices LG as much as Samsung' (translated from bengali). I promptly exited the store. Anyway after that my friends gave me the same reaction.

My 2 cents on this..

If one owns a Macbook, Ipad, Iphone he probably need not look elsewhere. The Apple ecosystem is undoubtedly the best. Its highly secure (hence no pirated stuff allowed, torrents et al) & a little pain in syncing stuff to the device instead of drag n drop (but its still highly robust and secure).

Most ppl who cant afford these devices + cant spend to download official content go for other ecosystems.

Its still logical to go for Android/Windows, since they do most of the stuff that Apple does at 50% cost, but if u want the best end-user exp and money is no object - iPhones all the way.

Few pages back you were discussing about PC suite & back up softwares.... I will say, just use Carbon, a free app, which can backup app with data to your PC via ADB interface(no root required)

Yea I sense something similar is going to happen and soon WP should become an important platform.

I've still gone ahead and ordered a Moto x play recently, cos windows apps are still not as feature rich (I could not find option to play subtitles along with video file on WPtorrent). And i face a few such things with most apps.

Wp10 and windows 10 will probably combine well together form a very good alternative rival ecosystem to Apple.

What i understood tracking these android devices for sometime is its hard to get a phone with the right size, from a good brand, with good service, software updates, having good battery life, 3g/4g antennas, many other new features all in one device. And finally priced right.

We have to compromise on something or the other. So i compromise on size and chipset here but i get bigger battery. From the looks it feels pretty compact for a 5.5 incher. I've started liking big devices now (partly because there are few small options, and partly since i watch lot of videos).

Nexus 5x seems to be fitting most of my requirements, but i have to wait further long for its launch in India.

2015 is the year of compromises.

1. Have an overall great phone? Ditch the battery : X Style
2. Have a phone with great battery life? Ditch the gyroscope : X Play
3. Have a phone that's absolute VFM? Put in an overheating processor and ditch quick charge and NFC: One Plus 2
4. Have a phone directly from google? Ditch the micro sd slot and put in 16GB memory, also make it look downright ugly: Nexus 5X. OR simply make it uber expensive: Nexus 6P
5. Have a phone with fantastic camera? Make it expensive: LG G4.
6. Have the overall best phone in market? Price it high enough to put apple users to shame: Samsung S6 Edge. Also kill the battery: S6

The meizu pro 5 seems like an all over beast of a device, but again that comes with shoddy after sales support, questionable build quality, a flyme os that tries very hard to mimic iOs but fails and an overall not so good brand presence.

I want Meizu Pro 5 with Stock android and after sales service like Motorola. Otherwise Moto X Style for me.

Battery stats depend on usage, the battery is no way excellent, but it will last one day easily. MKBHD reviews look snappy but its pretty much a verbal narrative without much details and testing.

From that thread I am sure that the phone will last one day for me easy. Plus there is a turbo charger and I carry a Xiaomi 10400mah powerbank when going out for long. My next phone will most likely be the Style depending on price.

MKBHD says Style has decent battery life.
Better for a day easily.
So battery is way better than S6.
Plus after recieving Marshmallow, battery will improve significantly.

S6 easily lasts over a day under moderate usage, might not last a day under heavy usage

Under heavy usage my Z3C just lasts a day with 5hr+ S.O.T ...... There are very few phones which can compete with Z3C in terms of battery life (don't bring feature phones here :p)

Battery stats depend on usage, the battery is no way excellent, but it will last one day easily. MKBHD reviews look snappy but its pretty much a verbal narrative without much details and testing.

For a better review, check engagdget: Gadget & Consumer Electronics Reviews - Engadget - Engadget

I totally agree on that

I personally rely on GSMArena & PhoneArena for detailed reviews. XDA is a good place to know real life battery life

I too personally think Moto X Style is a good phone with above average battery life (should be sufficient for many). If priced around 28k, it would be a great buy

Naa.... Oneplus One can't match Z3C..... My friend has it

It might have better battery life than S6.
1+2 should have used S808 to improve battery life(maybe).... G4 doesn't have good battery life though (says my friend who upgraded from Z1)

Yeah, GSMArena, PhoneArena and AndroidAuthority are best for reviews. XDA is best for everything else and a real life experience of the phone. MKBHD is more like a video commercial with lots of bling but very little substance.

Moto X Style is a fantastic phone, if you're not a very heavy user, think about GPS+LTE+Streaming+Gaming all at same time.

People are getting 8+hrs of SOT on one plus one with custom kernel like AK kernel or Franco.

People get 10hr+ S.O.T after optimization under moderate usage, so let's not mention those things as most people won't use it
I personally get 8 hrs+ if I watch movies(720p ones)

Sony's optimization + 720p screen did the trick. If Z5C has a poor battery life compared to Z3C, then Qualcomm is to be blamed

My dad's Honor 4X gives 6hrs SOT in moderate usage & he is too happy with it. Most people will be happy with S6's battery life. Its also better than iPhone's

5 hrs in a single day under heavy usage is a great battery life
I'm waiting for its GSMArena review

You said the key word here. ''Heavy'' and that is what I am interested in.

Dont listen to reviewers
they barely use these devices
how else will they review 4-5 phones every week

Rather go by personal experience
check xda for a clearer view on such things, they look into everything
