Hey guys,i am planning to buy a car soon...am looking for a small hatchback.....i narrowed down to the following options

1- Hyundai I20 2012 Model
2- Ford Figo
3- Suzuki swift(Ruled out)
4-Honda Jazz(Bought on 3rd July)

won't be running much...so i am looking for a petrol car...i need good interiors, good ride quality, good suspensions, also i don't want the car to feel underpowered....the clutch response should be good....my budget is about 6.5 lakhs(Mumbai)...Pls help me decide...i looked at i20 first & i liked it but my friends tell me that it has poor resale value & basically its a poor choice..can anyone enlighten me....

pls help guys...i know this is not a automobile forum...but i think people would have some clue about it here as well...pls...am not a member of teambhp or anything...pls pls pls... :(

Bought Honda jazz...Thank you all...esp papul1993,ritvij,ssk_the_gr8

If diesel variant was your requirement, i would have suggested i20. The New Swift is better than i20. The only problem with the New Swift is the legroom and the small-sized hatch.

If you are buying Swift, dont go for diesel variant. It's under-powered.

i am only looking at petrol variant not diesel....that was one of the reasons y i didn't like swift...its leg room is not that impressive than compared to i20..but still i needed people's opinion on this..if people suggest swift here, then i will go for it....leg room is an important priority...

i heard honda jazz is upward of 7.5 lakhs in mumbai..any idea what the price is?i didn't look at it thinking its beyond my budget

help me pls someone anyone out there...waaah!!

honda jazz had a recent price cut and should be well under your budget..
IMHO, go for the i20.. i have it for the last 2 years.. it wont feel underpowered if you get its servicing right! ASS of the i20 is great! the newer model is even better.. and its spacious! way more spacious than the swift! interiors are pretty impressive!

Thanks a lot...will look at honda jazz now..but any clue how much is the on road price??i googled & got an ex showroom price between 6.10-6.70...so am guessing adding another lakh makes the on road price...so its above 7 already..isn't that expensive for a hatchback...in comparison to i20..does it give more features, leg space etc??

^leg room's almost the same.. the only difference is storage space.. also you can even look at the new city.. i know it ain;t hatcjback but will give you terrific VFM.. else go for the i20 which is a better overall package!

Honda Jazz is an amazing car dude.

I personally don't like Hyundai cars. They are like Samsung of automotive industry. Many models that look the same. Sells a lot. But average - below average build and ride quality.

New swift diesel is ruling right now so most other hatchbacks have no / little waiting period. My friend was offered huge discounts on Honda City and Jazz last month by all dealers but he finally bought Fabia petrol with big discount.

I will try n let you know the dealers who were offering discounts

jazz is amazing with the i-vtec engine and with enough room

oh i c...thanks...thought no waiting period means selling old stocks...am quite a noob at this...ahh bummer...missed by a month...thanks..would be grateful if u could find one...

loved both jazz & i20...confused as hell...

either go for jazz or i20

comparing both in terms of leg space..which one has better....because length & width wise,it is almost similar....i20 seems to be giving me more equipments than honda jazz but honda quality is pretty good so...should i wait to see if there are offers in june??Only ford seems to be offering some sort of incentive...but ruled out ford figo now...is i20 inferior in quality compared to jazz & in what way?

Also this friend of mine says honda jazz has bad resale value..any ideas?

i20 is good. But the AC is not affective, and the driving seat is painful to the back. Very.

yeah thats one reason y i am hesitating with i20...i have seen the AC prob with a friends old i20..its quite ineffective...but i heard that problem has been rectified in the new i20..atleast acc to the review on team bhp...i am test driving the car this week...will see if the problem persist with regards to AC which hyundai claimed has been rectified...hmm didn't notice the seating issue...will try that out during the test drive...

so guys,i had gone for an i20 test drive.....at first they gave me a td on the older i20,then on a diesel i20,when i wanted petrol i20...wanted to test the AC...but couldn't.so have to go back again....

Next i went to honda showroom to inquire about honda jazz & i was shocked to find that they have stopped taking bookings for honda jazz because acc to the sales rep there is some problem in honda plant..so they told me to come after a month or so...& even if i do order the car then, will have to wait for 6-7 months further...this is ridiculous...

the surprising thing is when i asked them over the phone before, they said there is no waiting time & its ready..don't know what to believe..if i am right, most of the honda dealers in mumbai have stopped taking bookings, is that right??

so i randomly called at one of the honda showroom's in India & shockingly now they are saying they can deliver the car in 5-6 days flat...when i questioned further they said, they got more supply than demand & as a result,6 months waiting period reduced to just a week & they now have surplus stock...is this even possible??Could anyone help me here...so now i have 2 models which can be delivered in a week...Hyundai i20 or Honda Jazz

there is one prob though...they do not have the honda jazz model to test drive

Am really tempted by the honda jazz...looks good...but how is the after sales service??Also i heard it is expensive to maintain, maybe more than fabia??...about the stock, the reason y i am a bit skeptical was because just a week ago, they told me to come back in july & wait 6 months for delivery...now i called & they told me it can be delivered in like 6 days, how can the waiting period fall so drastically??Has this ever happened before?

One more question...can i install parking sensors in honda jazz??Will the warranty be considered void if i install it...

Any reliable reviews on the internet with regard to jazz x model..am thinking of buying the top end model...can anyone provide me with a link...i saw the team bhp review but i think its an older model..also are there any exterior differences between the old and the new jazz?

you may want to check this
Vehicle Identification Number - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
many dealers who cud not sell enough of the older models give heavy discounts on older models and sell it, without telling the customer that its a older model!
ask ur dealer for the VIN number before finalize the order

added: i m told that VIN numbers differ from manufacturer to manufacturer ... so do ur research

how much did it cost to install the sensors..did the dealer do it for you??You own an i20??You didn't like it?Doesn't the old i20 top variant have sensors?

so the honda guy called again..he claims that its bigger than the i20...also i noticed in few forums & they said they got the option of michelin tyres for their honda jazz...when i asked him,he said it will be luck if i get michelin tyres...when i am paying so much, shouldn't i be getting michelin tyres as an option with it??Also he said the charges for tinted windows is between 8000-50000:)shock:) & to put parking sensors,it will cost 8000-10000...isn't this like too high...should i get the window tinted myself through third party??

Also a friend of mine told me that honda service parts cost more than toyota also..any truth in this?

Honda ASS is good.
Jazz is a great car.
A friend of mine has recently gifter Jazz to her sister in marriage and it is indeed much bigger than I20.
And get the windows tinted from market only, even I would say get all the accessories and other things done from market only, these showroom people charge hefty for all this.

The Hindu : Cities / Mangalore : Police launch drive against tinted glasses in vehicles

hope u r aware of the new rule on tinted windows

yeah i am aware of the rule banning sunfilms but i have asked few guys & they said it can be tinted to RTO's limits...it won't be totally blackened..just enough for the cops to see inside...

can anyone tell me about spare parts cost of honda jazz??Is it really more than toyota? Also Honda is not marketing jazz at all..i mean even the monsoon benefits exclude honda..why is that?Do they plan on stopping production in the coming years? What will happen to spare parts then?Is jazz version incurring losses for honda???

so yest evening i was called to see a honda jazz interiors as i requested but no TD...the sales guy was good, answered a lot of queries...am very impressed with the rear leg room it offers,i think its a tad bit more than even the i20...I hope the AC is more effective than the i20,i couldn't get to test it but hoping you guys would know...apparently the problem still persists with the thailand plant due to floods & honda is releasing jazz in batches...the reason y there is less marketing now is because of the availability of jazz & not because its discontinuing...so that was a relief...Also i read in some forums that you should opt for michelin tyres, should i insist on one since i am already paying so much?
The sales guy is ready to give under rust coating, teflon coating & tinted class as free...should i go for teflon coating...i was reading on team bhp & they are against teflon coatings on cars?Any reason to that...

Lol..yeah i agree..been thinking too much because this is a car i am deciding for my parents, its also our first car & a good amount of money is going in it...so was being a bit paranoid..the Sales guy was offering me few free accessories..so wanted your opinion on it...was looking through team bhp, they have a thread specifically asking you not to go for teflon coating...so was wondering y...i am going for the top end model, the jazz XMT..

Believe me...This is the only forum i have posted this query,No kidding..it was this forum which convinced me to go for honda jazz than I20..Been trying to register at team bhp but rejected twice already...so i was hoping people could help me here...

The sales guy was offering me free teflon coating, anti rust coating & RTO approved tinted windows...but few of my friends were telling me to buy floor mats etc..so was getting too confused...also plan on adding parking sensors later...

i know i have stretched this thread far too long but i wanted to buy the right car..so my apologies if this whole thing is getting a bit annoying...i just didn't want to end up regretting my decision..Sry again...

Go for jazz,or else you can also have a look at brio.Though small, due to its fantastic space management, its also quite accomodating. But still,Jazz is the best petrol hatch on sale today.Try considering its base variant,as you get all safety equipments, and then accessorizing it according to your tAste.

The accessories which he is giving costs nothing.A
Ask for seat covers, car cover.Ask for parking sensors also but that would be difficult I guess. But do get a car cover, may be you have to fight for it .
And obviously he will give you mud flaps too as they costs very less, but do ask for them if he is giving you that or not.

But one thing I would like to ask you, why are you not going for a diesel car, these petrol costs a lot and in some time the price will increase more.
On the other side diesel cars give better mileage also.

oh ok..didn't know i needed seat covers...i asked for parking sensors, they said we have to pay for it,no freebie in that regard...thought mud flaps were inclusive, will check again...thanks

Regarding the petrol diesel thing...our running of car will be about 400-500km per month...so we will not be running it much...so thought it doesn't make sense to pay the extra 1.3 lakh difference for a diesel car...i am also bargaining on the fact that the petrol prices will be stable around the current price & diesel prices may get deregulated in future...

yeah but still it doesn't make sense for us to pay 1.2-1.5 lakh extra for a diesel car...will take more than 6 years to recover....

our usage will be very limited...had we been using it for 800-1000km...would have opted for diesel...

That will be much cheaper to you.

Lol...my friends are giving me a hard time with this choice...they call jazz a 'dabba' car...with low gc which is bound to get damaged sooner than later...also am i supposed to see the car before going to registration??Is it necessary to inspect it then...??

On an overdrive test where the cars were driven over the very bad roads of our country, the Jazz actually fared better than many "made for India" cars like those from Maruti and Tata.

yeah i think i saw that vid on youtube...no anyway my point being the general perception is that this car is a dabba, too expensive & low Ground clearance,so damage....i just hope this car lives up to my expectations...

Anyway can anyone tell me are we suppose to inspect the car physically before the RTO registration??Should i take down the VIN number?

he said the car was manufactured sometime in end of may...how should i know this?

Congrats on new car !!! My Figo's rear window rolls down only 60% due to the design. May be it is the same reason for Jazz (it may roll down 80-90% The door shape should be the reason for not allowing the glass to go down completely, it has to accomodate the rear wheels. Try the other side of the door, if it is the same, then it is not a problem.

I am High Octane in tbhp, what is your handle ?

yeah i checked...both the windows roll down about 90%...didn't know about that...i checked the door thing & it looks like it can actually go down..with regards to figo i remember the sales guy telling me that it was due to some beam which prevented the windows from going down...as a safety measure..didn't know about jazz...

oh cool...so u did manage to get into team bhp...i tried thrice, couldn't get through...is it possible for you to ask a query at team bhp at the honda jazz thread for me???in the reviews sections if you don't mind...

learning new things about the car...another aspect i liked it regarding the power windows...even after you turn off the engine, there still is power going in the power windows,it only shuts down after you open a window...found it very useful..

Create a new email ID with gmail or yahoo and then try to register again with tbhp with new email ID address. It will allow as new user.

I will certainly ask about the window rolling in tbhp.

In my friend's Honda City 2002 model, when you open the window and get down from the car and then press Central Locking button, the car would lock with rolling the windows automatically. Cool feature in Honda.

ok i seem to have made a slight error in this..what i meant was that there is still power in the power windows even after you turn off the battery till the time you open the door...after which there is no power in the power window, thought this was a cool feature..also could u ask whether honda jazz windows roll all the way down in the rear??Mine isn't...

Michellin XM 2 are great in handling and good in wet grip. The dealer is just bluffing, in case if there are good tyre in India, they are Michelins & Yokohomas, Continentals etc. Will post your query, but tell me what tyre are there now in the car and the size. If the dealer gives you Michelin, then are you paying any price for them or they just swap for free? If you are paying additional price for Michelin, then how much?

When you switch off the ignition, there will be still some power flowing through and so the windows may roll down. It is not a defect at least.
Yesterday I have posted about rear window (search in tbhp Honda Jazz forum last post, as I am using mobile app, cannot post url now) they have replied that this is a safety feature as:
1. Adults cannot keep their elbow and makes uncomfortable if not rolled down fully
2. It helps prevent kids from trying to exit from the window.

the stock tyres i received were MRF ZVTV(175) tyres...at first when i had gone for booking i asked him specifically for michelin tyres..he said he didn't receive jazz with michelin lately & when it comes he offered to change it for free...on the last day though, the guy told me that a lot of complains were received about the poor quality of michelin tyres from almost every michelin tyre user of jazz & as a result, honda from the company itself have stopped supplying michelin tyres...i don't know whom to believe here...

regarding the window query, thanks a lot,saw your post there in the forum & the response..thanks a lot..if u could just do me one more favour about these tyres,i would be grateful... :)

Also since you are a team bhp member,i wanted to know that i saw on the teambhp forum that they are against teflon coatings & i had told the dealer to not apply teflon coating & yet during delivery,i was told they had applied teflon coating for free..since they have already applied & can't reverse it...what precautions do i have to take? Why are they against teflon coatings?

Hey Ronnie11,
A might be buyer of ANHC here.

wanted to know from a consumers point of view, not an enthusiats, how is it?

tbh its one of the best engines i have ever driven..very smooth, refined & damn too quiet...since its a new car & me being a conservative driver..i am getting mileage of 10.5-11.5kmpl atm..hoping it would go up since i have only driven it for 250Km till now..i would recommend the ivtech engine to everyone...its easily the best in its segment...

the only complain i have is the low end torque is a bit of a problem...at low rpm's..its a bit sluggish, but after that, the engine really kicks in...

I hope you have seen replies on Michelin Tyres. Like I had said in earlier post that they are the best and your dealer is misleading you to change them. The dealer at the time of delivery just casually said that he will exchange and again when you went, he built up stories on Michelin's quality. Actually, once they deliver the vehicle, it will be difficult to get any replacement unless if it is defective.
About teflon coating, I did not find much time to browse, will find and post about that. But my personal feeling is there is nothing to worry on Teflon Coating.
