Finally, I got the long awaited fone yesterday (very happy :razz:

)

I became used 2 its keypad in less than 5mins...(no issues @ all)

I bought this fone from Thane @19k only with bill (dats a good deal

)

Every single word said about this fone is absolutley correct(which i heard thru web or on papers & from u all) I must say dat this fone is a m a z i n g

A True allrounder indeed...

Well being a Symbian device it has lots of features (which will take time 2 understand i guess)..so, i have lots of questions for all those N82 users out there in this forum...

Hope i'll get a warm response...

What i noticed is dat the autorotate feature only works when u rotate the phone
90 degress & dat also along anti-clockwise direction..it wont work 4 other
directions...but dats OK...

I have a question : is using the nokia maps requires gprs connection (from the service provider) or it is free...bcoz i cud only b able 2 use the mumbai,delhi & bangalore map..i think 4 other countries maps r not there currently on my nokia n82
so,for other countries map will i be charged if i directly download the maps in my n82...

currently i m using dolphin simcard & wants 2 move 2 airtel coz of low internet charges...but the dealer told me dat vodafone's net services r also good..is it true

Second, Gps is totally free except for turn by turn navigation.
Nokia maps downloads maps either in phone through gprs/wifi or through pc via Nokia Map loader.
Just download it via pc and it will store maps for offline usage, so no need for gprs etc.

download nokia map loader and install all extra maps on ur n82 .

ur quiries are welcome..

and 8gb sandisk micro sd card with card reader comes for 1.4 -1.5 k .. for ur information ..

The Gprs works nicely. Its good when u need to show off the gps.

Neways, I like the radio stations, specially the swedish classicals. "Robert Schumann - Kinderszenen" streamed fabulously......had me mesmerized!! Also, 'Fring' is a great application with VOIP features!!

My phone has automatically been upgraded with v30.0.019 firmware when the service center returned my handset. I really do not know what advantages are there in this new firmware. But when I find them I will definitely post it in your thread.

I opened the maps application after loading India using the Nokia Maps Loader. I switched off GPRS though I have Airtel MobileOffice activated because I wanted to use the GPS module. I have read blogs on the net saying Nokia N82 is the slowest to lock GPS location taking almost 2 minutes. But it took hardly 10 seconds to lock the position with the phone pointed 45 degrees to the sky from under the car's windshield. Immediately saved the position as favorite as soon as I stepped into the car at home. Now I am going to save my office location into favorites as well. Will try out the turn by turn navigation on my way home today.

On your box (the box in which the phone comes sealed) did it say 3 months free navigation? Mine said so and I am still figuring out how to activate it. Any other Nokia N82 gurus out there to help us?

@Karan - I was thinking of buying the N82 this month but then I thought that I must wait 4 the N79 also 2 launch...Anyways I am not in a hurry...At the present moment I am using the 6300..

2. If u have point 1, then go 2 options in nokia maps then select "extra services"
follow the screen instructions 2 get the 3 months package...

I just did it. It shows 90 days left. So I guess you can start the subscription any time. I went to Maps, Options, Extras, My license, Update. It wanted an online connection. I chose Airtel Moboffice. In 10 seconds, I got the message saying license updated Navigation India 90 days left.

Thanks a lot. I just did it. Maybe the menus were a little different cos of the different firmware versions that we have.

After using N82 gps for over 5 months, I would say it is pathetic. I have faced prob. with the gps at prime locations in mumbai as well. But once it locks the gps, its fun n useful.

I thankfully got it cr@cked before firmware upgrade and have no subscription limits now.

I feel GPS works better in Pune and Hyderabad then in Mumbai. Plus GPS locking with Google maps is much faster than with Nokia Maps

^^ But google maps is very taxing on the Network I believe? Do you get offline maps for Google? Im sure we get those for Nokia Maps.

Any phone with Creative EP-630 earphones or similar Seinheisser earphone will rock. My personal experience. My htc s710 (which is nowhere even near a music phone, it is a business smartphone) rocked with EP-630.

I use Seinheissar MX 360 with my N82.. Though not comparable to EP-630, they r gud ones for the value - Rs.690 with warranty

The earphones r not bad @ all...but u can try other earphones with it (dats a good side of N82 earphone compatibility) such as EP-630 as recommneded by others...

& RAM as N82 but after loading lots of data in its memory card the fone bcomes slow
& hangs @ times....is it the same case with our N82 coz i have copied only 300MB of data in its mem card..so dont know the exact thing abt it

SE G900 has a slower 208 MHz processor compared to N82's Dual CPU ARM 11, 332 MHz

Music quality through bundled earphone is not bad at all but if you have other earphones then use it with this phone you will see the boost in music quality.

First reset ur phone in settings , if it still does not work then backup ur phone's data and format.

Either do a copy paste (not sure it will work) or backup ur old memory card through pc suite and restore it in ur newer one.

thru the latest(important) Nokia PC Suite version & ur done...

no folder you should the theme files in just connect your phone via USB to comp and just run the sis file on computer and then follow the installation in mobile

Just Install PC Suite latest version...& u r done...the theme icon will change 2 the PC Suite app icon (no matter .JAR or .SIS or .SISX) then double click 2 the theme file

Oh,really..maybe it reads only nokia barcodes...or some special codes..who knows..???

AFAIK it can't b removed its built in firmware...

neways i also liked its signal reception..since i purchased this fone..it never showed me half or no signal (not even 1 bit less)...always full signal...impressive...

How to connect to a WLAN which has a hidden SSID? I have an unsecured WLAN at home with hidden SSID (Closed System) becos my Sister's laptop with Vista Basic works only if WPA and WEP is not enabled. I went to Menu -> Tools -> Connectivity -> Conn. Mgr. -> Available WLAN Networks -> Options -> Help. There it says to create an internet access point select Options -> Define access point. When I go back and click Options there are only two entries namely Help and Exit. What should I do to create an access point to connect to a wireless LAN with a hidden SSID?

after PC sync (i.e after the fone is detected on PC)

yesterday i installed Coreplayer 1.2.5 latest version...it simply awesome player
with wide range of support of video files...i recommend this players 2 all symbian OS users...

only one drawback is it can't play .m4a files.. :-?

Hey 2 all N82 users out there..i found a gr8 trick on google 2 change the default fonts to ur own favoutite fonts like this one

Steps to follow:
1. Make sure the file type extension is .ttf, like arial.ttf. That is the standard font type and stands for TrueType Font.

2.Duplicate the same font four (4) times. You will rename the font to the following...
nohindisnr60.ttf
nohindissb60.ttf
nohinditsb60.ttf
S60ZDIGI.ttf

3.It's extremely important that you have the exact spelling of each of those files. Put those font files into a folder called fonts.

4.Connect your memory card to your computer. It doesn't really matter how you do this, whether it be usb cable, bluetooth, or card reader. Your memory card should be the E: drive, although your memory card might be called something different. Inside the root of the E: drive make a new folder called resource. Do Not mess with the Z: drive.
Now grab the fonts folder you created in Step 2 and transfer it and the four font files into the new resource folder on your memory card.
So now your folder structure should be E:\resource\fonts\those four font files.

5. Disconnect & re-insert your memory card (if needed) and reboot. Power down your phone and power it back up.
And voila! You should now have completely new fonts on your N82.

Note: If you follow these steps correctly there really is no way to harm your phone. If you want to get rid of these fonts and go back to the originals you simply delete the resource folder and its contents.

Indeed a very good phone. I bought mine on Sep 30 from Ghaffar Market (New Delhi) for Rs.18,600 with bill. I bought Silver color as black is everywhere. The Camera Quality is Awesome and gives a tough competition to 5mp DigiCam. Speed n Performance is also superb. GPS works fantastic with Google Maps. WiFi has good range. I don't know why it is not as popular as N95 because according to me, Nokia N82 is an Excellent Phone with all features you can expect. If N82 comes under your budget then don't look further to any other phone.

After using n82, n95 8gb i can safely say that its better than n95 classic as well as n95 8gb . The only advantage i found in n95 8gb is its screen size and quality is better than n82. Though newer n85 gives n82 a good fight

The only minus abt N85 is its LED flash as compared 2 the Xenon flash of N82...Otherwise I m sure N85 rocks...

There is a minor bug in version 20.0.062

I would say , dont compare n82 to n85. Both are equally good devices with one being candybar and the other being slider.
